The Browns gave Watson roughly 80 million more in guaranteed money than any contract in NFL history, and made his base salary in year 1 of his 5 years/230 million... 1 million dollars, to effectively circumvent any NFL discipline from hurting Watson financially. Watson will only lose roughly $60,000 per game he's suspended.

They were that desperate for this guy, good lord.

I don't think ti's so much an attempt to evade them as it is they just don't care about them. Watson still counts against the cap suspended or not, pretty sure, so the browns would be tanking those games he misses. THey think it's worth it to have him locked in for 4+ years. The contract thing was purely to help lure watson there by promising him his money even if he's suspended, rather than trying to evade some sort of consequence. They don't care, they'll just take it on the chin and then have watson ready the rest of the way.

I don't wish injury on anyone because that is mean and always comes with bad juju for the team you support...

...that being said, the Browns have teed themselves up to have out of game shape Watson to come back after a year plus and get blown up on his first possession back and suffer a career ending injury. And be out all those picks and money.

I think the most telling sign for Watson is likely to be low jersey sales. I mean, Browns fans live in perpetual anger, but they like to have hope for a minute. Ignoring all the rape apologists, you've got a lot of Browns fans disgusted with the decision. It'll be interesting to see the totals.

And yeah, Watson is likely still a high-caliber QB, but he's being put into a run-first team with Amari Cooper as his only target. That works for the Packers, so I won't say it won't work here, but Burrow has better game sense if he doesn't have a paper OLine and Mahome is still transcendent so I'd put Watson 3rd in AFC at best, likely closer to 7th/8th.

Reportedly Jarvis Landry is now interested in returning to the team, so that would give them a decent 1st and 2nd WR

This is what I've expected ever since Watson was out of the picture.

They're not trading meaningful assets for Baker or Jimmy G when Winston is already there.

I really like all the moves the Rams have made. With AR2, we can definitely bring OBJ back and wait for him to get healthy... imagine adding him to your WR core mid to late season.

Seattle isn't a playoff team with or without Baker. Trading for him doesn't do them any good.

They give up draft picks to still miss the playoffs and get a worse draft pick than they would've had if they hadn't.

Atlanta is basically doing the same thing with Mariota. They know they're going nowhere this year.

Lions and Texans are also options. Mayfield and Garoppolo are 26 and 30 respectively. They might still have a decade in the league, so if they can be a long-term solution, any team with a QB need makes since unless they have a non-existent 10 year rebuilding plan.

Mayfield gets Seattle ending around .500, and the way the NFL is designed, .500 is the absolute last place you want to be. With how weak the NFC is going to be, 8-9 could conceivably grab the 7 seed and then get murdered by some 14-3 team round 1.

That's basically going to be their ceiling with him.

I mean, Kyle Pitts turned out to be a pretty good pick all things considered even if he was who he threw to all the time

Pitts was kind of inconsistent, but that's understandable since he was a rookie

look at their WR depth chart this upcoming year without Ridley, it's...really bad

Pitts was inconsistent partially because his team was lacking around him.

The Falcons are looking at a ceiling of like 6 wins this year and likely it'll be lower.

On the bright side... this seems like a good WR draft
