Honestly Watson is just a giant unknown at this point given how long it's been since he last played in the first place.

I believe theyre breaking up, regardless of whether or not Deshaun Watson ends up in Cleveland, Chris Mortensen said. The one thing I was told is that its just not a match emotionally. Whereas Baker Mayfields passion and emotional leadership was embraced at Oklahoma, and even in the beginning with the Browns, things have changed and they want what they consider an adult at that position and that Baker Mayfield probably is going to be moved.

If anyone comes to regret this trade it's probably Watson. Going to the Saints made a ton more sense from a football perspective IMO.

3 years from now they'll be a crappy 7-10 team wasting what's left of Watson who won't even be a top 5 QB in the AFC.

Watson is not a top 3 QB in the AFC at present. You have Burrow in his division, who I'd take over him. You also Mahomes in that category. Then you have Herbert. Then you have Allen and Jackson. He's basically fighting for "4th best quarterback in the AFC".

I see this starting with a splash but I don't see it translating to competing for titles. The Browns are still weaker than every single team in the AFC West, for starters.

I think year 3/4 it all starts going downhill after mediocre success, and that's when the regret sets in.

The Browns just traded away 5 picks (including three firsts, and gave a massive contract to him just to compete with the Bengals to win their division, but they're still not on the level of any team in the AFC West, except possibly Denver.

The Browns need to pull a Rams and really hit the "all-in" button to make this worthwhile. The AFC is going to be extremely top heavy this season, and the Browns aren't stacked enough to survive it.

Also the whole "he might not even be a top 5 QB in the AFC" argument isn't as effective as you might think considering there are, what, two QBs in the entire NFC you could confidently say are better than Watson. I wouldn't take Dak, Kyler, or Stafford over him.

That's the point though. The AFC is ridiculously stacked on top. It's already safe to say that the top teams in the AFC will be favored over almost any NFC team in the Super Bowl. The problem is actually surviving in the AFC to get to said Super Bowl, and I don't think they have enough.

The NFC could have an 8-9 team make the playoffs. The AFC could have a 11-6 team miss.

Looking it up, the Bills, Chiefs, and... Broncos? Really, the Broncos? are all being given better odds to make the Super Bowl, with the Chargers very closely behind them, and the Bengals and Ravens both not far off.

I'm actually legitimately surprised to see Denver so high.

Cleveland's roster is pretty good. They had a chance to win that division last year until late in the season with a QB who's merely average when he's healthy (and he wasn't healthy).

I think you're underselling the impact this move could actually have, either because you really don't want Watson to succeed (understandable) or you don't trust the Browns to capitalize on having a talented team (also understandable).

I think the Rams actually just proved that first round picks that arent in the top ten are generally overrated, most of their solid guys were mid round players or free agents and its not like the Titans or Jags got anyone of note back
