PSA that there is a somber stone vendor in northwest Liurnia on the road to a castle that has unlimited 1/2s and limited 3/4s, so upgrading unique weapons to +4 is almost free in terms of resources. So if you need somber stones or have been holding off, go nuts.

I have three slots currently. One of them I got from talking to the weird eyeless lady after beating the second major boss. The other one I dont remember the origin of but I got it pretty early on

OOOOHH! Gotta love when a boss fight suddenly clicks. Bashed my head against Radahn for about an hour, then finally went in and utterly destroyed him. Barely even got a scratch. The best part was I didn't even finish him off, Blaidd delivered the final blow! It was glorious.

Phew, that was the first boss to give me that classic masochistic souls grind. Feels good.

Finally went back to battle Crucible knight again and beat him, butonly 2100 runes?! Has to be one of the hardest bosses in the game for the level you are expected to beat him. Granted I am a pure melee build.

I actually enjoyed climbing the tower in Cealid.

The enemy knight at the top who two-shots me and never staggers made me go elsewhere though. Dude is a beast for being a regular humanoid enemy

Brother if you're having trouble platforming up then you best be prepared when they as you to platform down.

Northeast of Raya Lucaria Academy. It's kind of visible on the map, west of a forest area.

I would not mind Starscourge if the setup for the fight wasn't so long.

As it stands in pretty sure I hate this fight. Shame because the spectacle is so good. Should have made all the Summoning automatic.

I read the description for the one half of the great elevator key I found and was super confused when after some wandering I ended up in that place totally by accident.

I never went hard on magic in other Souls, is this the first time they've gone out of their way to make Int/Fth viable? The entire subset of light magic seems based around it.

So is Clawmark Seal any good? It says it lets you cast incantations based on your strength stat, so figured it would be good for my low magic build, but the beast spell you get from that dude feels like it sucks.

i dont know where, but I assume theres another elevator to find. Theres definitely more going on down there.

I was trying to hunt for it for a while by checking above ground places that would geographically be above that underground section, but havent had any luck yet.

I guess it could be a portal situation instead of an elevator.

I really regret my starting class.

Started as a Prophet but I'm probably going Dex/Int.

I've found a weapon that's pure arcane scaling but not much else that uses arcane by itself, only in conjunction with int and fth.

Got summoned as a blue phantom in the lake again, except i aggro'd the dragon when I helped kill the invader... sorry to whoever that host was!

My time with this game continues to consist mostly of finding a new place, then getting my ass kicked. Go deep underground? Ass kicked by mobs. Go into the castle to the south? Ass kicked by mobs. Cave in the cliffside? Ass kicked by the fire breathing boss.

I'm kinda just running around looking for save points, free runes, and places to come back and finish later. Managed to scrape my way to about level 25. Put a lot of points into whatever gives you health. Unfortunately that now means that the health potions only recover about 25% of the bar. I know there's an item to help with that but haven't run across it yet.

In the mines to the south, I accidentally stumbled into a boss battle with no health potions left (but a full health bar). I figured I was done for until I realized the power of using the jellyfish to distract so I could backstab. That was doing huge chunks of damage! Should have realized the viability of that sooner... Managed to win, first try, with a sliver of health left. So that was pretty neat. Got some anchor weapon that I don't have the stats to wield.

Oh yeah, so, I found a big ass bear scratching at a tree. Approaching it didn't cause aggro so I just left it alone.

But I also opened up Patch's chest and jesus this game. I went somewhere near by after that and its beautiful but kicking my ass everywhere

the item that makes your potions better tends to be found in churches. Theres two or three of them on the southern peninsula I think, so you should probably seek them out

also theres a ton of flask upgrades in the game just in general. Ive got 12 flasks now and theyre at +9

Okay, that boss fight in Nokron was a concentrated dose of bullshit. Managed to scrape by after who knows how many tries, but that's the first boss so far I think was designed poorly. The poison is just so completely unnecessary and obnoxious, in addition to the broader fight being RNG-dependent.

I'm talking about the Valiant Gargoyle, which I ended up fighting first. The other Nokron boss was completely fine.

Respeced and powerstancing the Moon and Meteor Katanas now.

I'm convinced enemies don't have health bars.

It's unique in that it has strength scaling, but it also scales off of faith so if you're barely meeting the spell requirements you're not going to see anything too amazing unless your strength stat is totally wild.

Hexes in DS2 were Int/Faith and were busted as all hell until they were nerfed into the ground

IIRC Lightning Spear was really good at launch in DS2 until they nerfed the amount of casts significantly.

...Boosting HP wasn't a good call? I've put a few points into Strength and whichever one boosts your stamina, as well. I'm playing the "default" character class (whichever one it defaults to on the selection screen), so I'm all melee at this point.

Again, this is my first Souls(ish) game, so I'm essentially going in blind and don't know what the "right" strategy is supposed to be.

Pure Melee in souls games is traditionally harder because there are some enemies that just roll over to ranged attacks.

Im at level 55 and I think Ive put 2 points into hp because regular enemies were one hit killing me and so I sighed and finally put some points into it. In general putting points into endurance and using your shield or rolls to not get hit or putting points into int/faith and using ranged attacks to not get hit is a better strategy

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll stop with HP and start going harder into Endurance. I'm only level 25 or so, so it's probably not as bad as it sounds.

No I think you should level up health. If you were a mage then it'd be different but since you went melee you need more survivability. I recommend sticking with Vigor and Strength, some Endurance too.

Strength weapons are really good, you can usually one shot most regular enemies.

I mean yeah "not getting hit" is a great strategy, but the game is designed for you to obviously take damage so why not make sure you don't get killed in two hits.

Agreed. Leveling up health to at least 20 is totally viable. You probably shouldn't do more than 40, though.

If you're going melee, the largest increases to your damage will come from upgrading your weapon, not stat scaling. You want enough str/dex to wield whatever weapon looks interesting to you, and enough endurance to have a medium roll with said weapon equipped and shield and armor equipped.

Additionally, a ranged option, such as a cheap bow, is useful to have as backup so you can strategically lure enemies out from packs. Arrows can be crafted from simple animal bones, so killing all the deer that you see means you don't need to spend extra souls on arrows from merchants.

Yea I'm doing a two handed build so I don't block at all and am all about dodging BUT even I put a bit into Vigor just in case, I think I'm at like 19 or something. Endurance is always a great stat to pump some points into, and yea Str/Dex for hitting wep requirements and then when you find a wep you wanna stick with for a bit, whatever Stat that scales the best with you can put some points into as well

as a souls noob who is also playing vagabond melee - bumping HP is fine, it's good to boost endurance as well. I think Dex 12 gets you an awesome halberd. Also try an equipment setup where you have medium load instead of heavy load - your dodges are better. You don't magically become an invincible acrobat, but you'll be able to escape combos and such. Try that for a bit and then try to go back to heavy load, that's when you'll really notice the difference haha.

Get your summons to +2. I think I tried wolves and demi-humans and the demi-humans were a little better but the boss for them is aggravating. The shackles help the summons avoid AOE damage in phase 1. And just try to land heavy shots, jumping heavy shots, charged heavy shots, etc while he's distracted by the summons. You'll be able to stun him if you keep up pressure with heavy attacks.

this is the first From game where I'm actively pumping points into Vigor over other stats because I feel like it's worth it.

granted I'm 2H STR build so I don't need many points elsewhere, but I've just felt like enemies in this game do significantly more damage than before

Agreed - I've also been pumping a lot of points into Vigor and am pretty happy with the outcome. At the point where I'm at (level 75 or so), 10 points in my primary attack stat means about 30 more damage per hit, which is decent but not insabely good. Whereas 10 points in Vigor gives me 300-400 more HP, which is pretty much doubling one's starting HP. Being able to tank 2 more hits makes such a big difference.

I'll eventually get Vigor, Endurance and Dex to 40, but levelling Vigor early has reaped more benefits than beelining Dex, I've found.

Vigor does, but it continually scales upward until 40, so I'm guessing that number will be the standard. Endurance actually gets diminishing returns after 25, so there isn't much of an investment requirement there.

So Leyndell is incredible. Took me a while to find my way around but finally located the underground roadside that I assume will lead me to the rest of the city. Holy fuck this area sucks. A dark sewer with a shit ton of mob and tough enemies.

I truthfully had more fun with the ants.

Honestly these wall/floormasters freak me out the most. Mainly the big ones.

I have a friend staying over and watches me play sometimes and when I got to Caria Manor with the big fast crawling hand spiders they freaked out lol. Truthfully they are fuckin creepy and I think I was underleveled for them lol
