It's hard but you only need to damage him a little bit without dying. You can summon for the fight.

I feel like the duo optional bosses such as crucible knights and such were designed to be fought with spirits. There's a chance I'll never feel the need to tackle those encounters solo for that reason, however the main bosses should all be designed with solo fights in mind. And so far I think they are.

Godskin duo can be done using the pillars which adds immensely to their O&S tryharding.

it just lasts like a second or two then you need to let go of the stance and put it back up again to fire off another

I usually like to kill everything at least once, but if I die or have to reset the area in some way Elden Ring makes it pretty easy to just skip everything up to the point where I was

I typically fight every enemy in an area the first time through as well, but those giant floormasters are a nope from me. Managed to kill one once and that was enough. Thankfully they're not in the inner areas of Caria Manor so it's not so bad. I remember enjoying that place for the most part.

Although I do leave non aggressive enemies alone since they aren't hurting anybody and the souls they offer are negligible.

Gotta hand it to them, Caria Manor deserves a round of applause

Anyway I went back and did the 2nd great rune boss
Not that difficult except that her magic hits like crazy
I got scared when she pulled out the summons (and I wish I had brought my own), but at least hers dont last their HP

But the goodies
They're right on top of those damned buried hands and there is no way to attack them or get the items without triggering their grab attack.

Just take a weapon with some reach and smash it on em while they are hiding

Yeah, you can attack them while they're buried. I used a fully charged attack on the buried big hands and could generally kill them with a combo before getting hit.

I guess my sword was just not long enough
And my magic refuses to aim well

The big hands are scary looking and have some harder to judge attacks but they stagger fairly easily. Was able to just kind of mash into them with a dagger. Took a full stamina bar but it'd kill them.

Its just that I tend to stagger easily as well, them with their triple rushes

The big hands really don't like fire.

On the first hit from my flail with Bloodflame Blade they'd go into an animation flailing around trying to put it out and I'd be able to kill them before they recovered.

Volcano Manor boss was fun!

Finished the academy. Got a few Burger King masks and a new pointy hat, so I'd call that a win.

Ranni the witches doll only being active at that one specific bone fine is so annoying.

If I hadnt looked up what the hell happened to that quest line I never would have gone back there

Yeah so...is Malenia supposed to be the go fuck yourself super boss? Sure feels like the go fuck yourself super boss. Seriously, everything she does 1-2 shots you, she FUCKING HEALS ON CONTACT (this includes blocking) has ass loads of health, her figure eight can heal a bunch of damage, her jump move is death unless you get lucky and manage to out stam+hp her going full Vergil with block (because fuck running since she flies across the map. Also doing this as melee solo so its totally focused on me).

Oh and then when I somehow manage to beat her? Phase 2 where pretty much all that hp back and now she can fly+rot aoe.

The fuck?

I think that is a legitimate issue with this game

Im not saying it needs a super explicit quest log, but they need to give you some reason to even begin to think that the place you have to go is the place you have to go

i helped Matilda or whatever with her scarlet rot and she was just like ok I gotta go do my adventure now and gave literally no indication of what that is or where it would take her

turns out she went to some random part of the Altus plateau and I stumbled into her there, but then she said more vague stuff and left and for some reason the next place she goes is the top of the windmill town, which is a totally optional area totally out of the way of anything else that I had already explored and would have no reason to go back to

how would I ever know to look for her there without looking up a guide

Think I may have been a bit overleveled for Raya Lucaria and Rennala but that's done now, one step closer to Ranni's quest finishing

Yep she's the one. Took me over 30 attempts WITH a busted Mimic Bleed Build.

That entire area is completely optional, actually.

Radahn might be the worst Souls gimmick boss. Not fun at all and pretty much everything one shots me, though I may be underleveled and I probably should get more Vigor. 20 just isn't cutting it anymore.

Didn't have the patience to keep dealing with him last night, gonna try again today.

Yeah but like, lore wise she was only equal to Radahn (and even then she sorta had to cheat to make it a tie). She's FAR more busted than his fight its ridiculous. Like it wouldn't be as bad if she didn't heal on block but she does and that is nuts. You have to constantly run away from her and hope she remains idle for a quick jump hit and then gtfo because if she touches you at all there goes all your damage. Yeah you can stagger her but she can easily get that hp back with that jump move.

Trying to do it as melee and wondering if I should respec to pump all into str/end/vig (using the Grafted Greatsword +10 here)

I gotta be honest I literally never figured out how to dodge her thousand cut burst.

My only runs that were viable were the ones where she used in on my Mimic instead.

How many times did you call to your death trying to reach the eternal city?

I'm bad at platforming and have trouble seeing the platforms underneath.

Yeah you start getting multiple levels off every major boss toward the latter half of the game and picking up enormous Rune items. The leveling speed ramps up a ton.

I beat her at...137? But again that was while completely cheesing it.

Also I was just informed that Arcane in this game is also secretly Bloodtinge as well as Luck and affects bleed? I beat half the game with dual bleed weapons how did I not know this??

Miyazaki's said that he hides stuff so that you'll have to talk to other people to find it - no one's supposed to find everything on their own.

Holy fucking hell is this game bigger than I imagined...I only just realized I could get to the northwest landmass and that it wasn't gated behind a boss.

You guys talking about level 150...I'm 37, I think. Damn! Took another run at Margit and got him down to about 25% but didn't want to bash my head against him. So that's when I went exploring.

I did manage to beat one of the bosses guarding a minor Erdtree! Probably took about 15 tries but my patience eventually won out.

I found this Crystal Sword that might be neat...if I had the INT to wield it. Not sure it's worth the levels.

Should I be worried about going to the Altus Plateau too soon? Seems silly, Im almost sure its not, but some characters make it sound like its that start of the endgame areas!

No its more like the late midgame. I put off going there forever and a lot of it was a cakewalk.

However once you get close to the city and obviously inside it, the difficulty starts to go up quite a bit.

There's still a lot of game after it, though.

There are some parts of the plateau that are a little punishing and will make you want to run rather than fight, but the plateau is generally less dangerous than caelid.

Everytime I think the difficulty of those endgame areas can't get worse, somehow it decides to get even more ridiculous. Elphael is all kinds of stupid with so many unwinnable ganks. Erdtree Avatar with AOE rot + 2 knights you have to fight in a small area or you get pelted by 3 ballistas? At the end of a long marathon of gans? How is this even possible? And I had to lol as I waltz in the next room and I see three bosses just casually hanging out 1 feet apart from one another.

I'm just doing suicide runs through all the mobs, fuck it. I've kind of given up on the pretense of this being balanced and am abusing Mimic. Even Defiled Pthumerian Chalice didn't get this bad.

Had another frustrating boss earlier in Astel, Stars of Darkness. Same old fight, except this time, his grab is much harder to dodge and OHKOs at 1,450HP.

The game stayed excellent up until the end of the capital (even the sewers, if done through stealth), and then the difficulty got intolerable.

Pretty sure this actually is supposed to appear impossible....because you're supposed to use the roots to go up and around it.

It's not the only time in the game where I feel like From wants you to straight up avoid combat. The decision to go around the side in Stormveil rather than assault the front is actually an obtuse tutorial for several parts of the game: If something seems unfairly stacked against you, there's a good chance there's another way.

I was in the upper 80s when I beat Radahn and it was still rough.

when that guy was like dont go though the front, its crazy filled with dudes. Check out this side path I assumed he was a Patchesesque liar and I rushed in the front door
