The entire first area of this game is like a smokescreen for how far this game goes.

I truly feel for the people who got put off before getting out of Limgrave.

I mean, I think Limgrave is pretty representative of the rest of the game. I agree there has been some wild bosses in far off corners but the gameplay loop of wandering around and finding cool stuff that sometimes beats your ass doesn't change

If anyone wants a totally free fuckton of souls (not farming, one time dump)

Go to the enormous white zombie dragon near the right erdtree in the red zone. Bonfire right next to his tail. Get out a bleed weapon and go to town on it's tail. Nothing will aggro, will eventually die from bleed after it pops a few times. All the dragon buddies die automatically when it does as well. 75k souls.

I just came across another elevator to underground and thought, oh cool, more of this cool place!

and then it took me down to an absolute nightmare ant colony. Ive got bad arachnophobia and ants are like 90% as bad as a spider to me. Legitimately considered just turning around and never coming back, it was making me so tense.

Dude I love spiders and those ants still freaked me out. Took me a minute to get my nerve back.

If it makes you feel better thats a totally optional area, you can't even get to the main section of that place from there.

Also it feels damn good to go Guts on those ants and one shot them all with a greatsword

no makes me feel worse because I cleared the whole thing out lol

moved so slowly and deliberately because I absolutely did not want to die and have any of them respawn

I had this exact same experience. Thought I was going back to a super gorgeous place and the elevator dropped me off in Hell instead.

either Im in a different ant nightmare than you were thinking of or you were wrong, because this does appear to be connected to the entirety of the area down here

thank god for the messages warning me of ambushes. never been so happy to have them

the one other thing that helps here is Im strong enough to two shot these things with my glintstone pebble, so I can pretty much keep them from getting anywhere near me

Hmm well it leads to part of the main area with an optional boss. I looked around everywhere trying to reach the rest of it then finally read that wasn't accessible from there... But if you did find the way please tell me how!

ok yeah I think were talking about the same thing then and I was just using the phrase main area more loosely

just fought that boss, dragon soldier of nokstella

There is one. But also as far as I can tell you need to have the remedy enabled too. So 2 items to enable someone to easily invade you.

I did get invaded randomly when I was co-oping with a friend though. Really wish there was more since I love that part of the game. I've had my blue ring on forever and never got summoned either. I hope there's an area like the Belfry towers that's just stupid multiplayer fun.

30+ hours into the game, I am exploring the Weeping Peninsula.

Those fucking ants tapped into some weird prumal fear I didn't realize I had. I was literally wincing through that entire area.

The dread and fear I get just running through Caelid's world map is going to bnle tough to top, though.

I ended up going through Caria Manor and took down Loretta, honestly she annoyed me with some of her attacks that weren't so hard as much as they felt kinda cheap

Then I went to Ranni's Rise and met with Renni and did the next part of Blaidd's questline, the whole reason I even came through the Lakes because wolfman cool

the way the quest flags resolve for Irina's request sure is stupid

Today's accomplishments:
-killed a few NPC invaders
-rekindled an old friendship
-freed a man of the earth from his earthly prison
-used a required gesture
-was tempted by promises of knighthood
-defeated a boss the first time I met them

Shout out to the illusory floor I just found.

Did a clean sweep of Limgrave bosses at lvl 40 before moving on to the next area. All I'm missing is the damn Crucible Knight but I'll come back for him.

He was pretty manageable, but he still killed me a good number of times. His hit and hurt boxes felt odd

I think it's implied you're supposed to hit him in the band-aid but that also wasn't right, either. the number of bosses in this game that use "shockwave" damage to hit you without needing art assets to touch you is higher than normal!

What builds are you all using? I might be gimping myself for going full strength/endurance, and slapped some in arcane early on when I thought it would be useful. Right now I'm deciding whether to spend my next 5 or so points going quality, faith, or int

It has the shield buff, faith has resistance, healing, and status cure spells, and quality has a greatsword down the road

Also can't remember how scaling works in this game exactly. Whether 40 strength with a strength scaling weapon is better than 20 strength and 20 dex in a quality wep, for example

The good thing about waiting so long to clear out southern Limgrave is that so did other people, and they're still summoning despite being overleveled, so doing summon pools there is easy rune arcs.

Not true for Limgrave proper where the pools all seem to be people summoning for Tree Sentinel and the dragon and immediately eating shit.

Ok when I took this elevator down into what looked like a pit to death I expected death.

Ive stuck with the dex/int focus that I started with. Going more into int right now until I get it to 33 so I can use some spells I found that require 38

i use that +8 halberd some guy dropped (but its like +14 now) for horseback combat and it rules. Mostly use the nightsomething flail when Im on foot, but might be switching that to this magic katana I just found.

Whole game I've been just doing 1 Vigor then 2 Intelligence

Occasionally I'll put one in endurance if my equip load gets too high

Currently using meteorite staff as my main and Lordsworn's Magic Straight Sword +7 as my back up when I'm out of FP

30 hours in have had very little issue with anything I've come across

My two highest stats are strength followed by vigor, also increased endurance and dexterity as needed. Main weapon is a heavy greatsword which keeps it easy, kills most things very efficiently.

Except Radahn.

43 Faith with the +8 halberd the invader dropped enchanted with holy to do double damage and black fireballs

I think faith affecting both fire and holy damage has been great because there have certainly been some enemies where one of the two doesnt work at all

For those interested in not having to do a second playthrough for the platinum powerpyx has the steps up to get the platinum in a single playthrough

I don't think I've screwed myself out of anything yet

but 5 trophies are missable and you can screw yourself out of them

I'll probably try to keep an eye on not missing those things, but part of what makes the game so great is not knowing anything.

Yeah, the bulk of the game is random exploration. I think a NG+ would be wildly faster by just beelining to necessary areas. I'm not going to ruin the game for myself just because I'm worried about that

Running a Dex heavy build with some Strength added in for wep requirements, and then the rest in endurance and a little in vigor. Still rocking the Bloodhound's Fang, +2 about to be +3 and I might have enough for +4? I'd have to check

I use the halberd +8 and the basic sword, str/vig for the most part. The difference between the medium load and heavy load dodges is insane.

Failed to beat CK, but it was fun to try. I keep letting him get into a rhythm that I can't seem to get out of. I'm into Stormveil now as well. I feel like I need to push for the respec because I've found too much stuff that I can't even mess around with.

Once I had the requisite stats to wield the Claymore, I leveled VIG to 40 before touching anything else. For anyone interested, HP seems to scale upward until 40 and then suffers a severe softcap, so I then beefed up STR until 40. I'm currently at 70 and two-handing a +17 Claymore, so most enemies die in 1-2 hits.

Also, I'm far from an expert, but the second phase of the Radahn fight might be one of the most Souls things to ever Souls.

PSA that there is a somber stone vendor in northwest Liurnia on the road to a castle that has unlimited 1/2s and limited 3/4s, so upgrading unique weapons to +4 is almost free in terms of resources. So if you need somber stones or have been holding off, go nuts.

Also the bloodhound blade is so cool, I have been eyeing it since I got it very early on but I just don't have the stats. I can wield it with my Great Rune buff but I have very little endurance to make it work. But it's SO sick.

My stats are a mess, as a swordmage I want VIG/MIND/END/DEX/INT (or sub STR/FAI if you want) and it's just...too much to focus on! I'm still hovering around RL40 though, this build will be a late bloomer. For now I am using a unique crystal sword I got to +4. It deals magic damage and has high raw stats with poor scaling, but is pretty boring otherwise, so it's basically a better version of DS1's Drake Sword. And...I'm just realizing I found it by a boss that is a knockoff of Capra Demon lmao.

I can't speak to Radahn yet but imo the current standard for "Soulsiest Souls Boss" is Sister Freide from the DS3 DLC. That fight is basically Soulsbourne Greatest Hits. It consists of:

THREE PHASES:
1) Straightforward 1v1 duel with some tricks, an invisibility gimmick
2) Her summoning another boss for a 2v1, one big guy and one little guy
3) Little guy getting a buff when big guy dies. BONUS - she's just Lady Maria now.

In terms of series cliches, hard to top!

So, yesterday, I experimented a bit with that one spot in Liurnia where you can use Imbued Sword Keys, having found enough to interact with all the thingies. One of them transported me to what might be an endgame area?? It just had two rat warriors who shredded my HP to zero in half a combo while I was basically doing paper cuts. Area looked rad as hell, kind of reminded me of Dreg Heap from DS3. And also seemed located on the far right corner of the map, which would mean the map is much larger than I expected, holy crap. That made for a good laugh.

The Imbued Sword Keys are rad. There's so much damn content in this game that I have to wonder what, if anything, was left on the chopping room floor.

Either I am lagging, easily distracted, or both.
But I only now got back to Stormveil Castle to take on the boss there.
Bit tough with a magic build, but I managed to do it before I caved in and decided to use summons. (or god forbid the item)

One of those 4 Belfreys towers takes you back to the starting area so you can take on that boss.

Drops some pretty rad gear.

Ended up getting that way after he was beaten. It is fun just how much random stuff is everywhere and what you can stumble into either before or after it is relevant. Like I brute forced the Shaded Castle to explore after returning to it thinking it was tied to some npc quest (thought I was done with the npc in the backyard) only to eventually find the actual entrance and stumble upon a fucking sith lord

Yall got any more of them talisman slots?

I just hit a 3rd talisman I really really want to equip at all times

I think those may be locked behind main boss progression.
