When you say not punishing surrender, is there something I'm missing? Don't you just not get a match reward and a loss? I don't really think that's a very harsh penalty compared to just losing, since end of match rewards are whatever anyway besides duel pass. I guess the ideal way would be to give you partial credit or something based on how long you're in a match but I can't think of a single pvp game ever that has adopted that path.

What they really need is some sort of more casual mode where you can still level your duel pass. It's why I hope those rumors about the different cups are true, I think those would fit a lot of us here's tastes much better.

Match rewards include mission and duel pass progress. Which are a lot more valuable than the legacy packs or cards. If you surrender, you get the loss and it's otherwise like the game never happened for you. Which, when combined with the fact that players can and will grief you for trying to lose quickly when you know it's over, makes for an immensely frustrating experience.

Anyways, XYZ only sounds interesting, I'll totally bring a deck that's in the spirit of the event :^)

(Or hastily build something semi-trashy and cheap if actual XYZ summoning is important, not just leaving links/synchro/fusion out of the extra deck)

I should be able to repurpose Zoodiac Tri-Brigade into just Zoodiac without spending any gems, especially because most of the rarities in that archetype are low.

I think it's kinda ridiculous you only have 3 days after the event to claim your rewards. And surrenders won't give you any event currency. Fucking Konami.

i know there was some speculation whether they would ban some new cards but when you look at the forbidden list, it just lists every non-XYZ extra deck monster. like gee thanks. also hilariously the head of Exodia is banned but the other pieces are limited.

wow the rewards are pretty zzz

other than the gems, it's legacy packs and a new 'xyz' reward pack with a pool of 20 cards that aren't very notable.

and you can't dismantle them either. got a UR for my first reward pack but zzz

no idea if the rates change but you get 100 medals for a win, 50 for a loss. the rewards go up to 20,000 medals. so minimum 400 games if you don't surrender your losses if those rates are consistent the whole time through.

there's about 2k gems for rewards but a big chunk of it is early in the rewards list (looks like it's about 20 wins worth of time).

Seems like a decent banlist for encouraging people to play XYZs and not doing anything cheesy like Iblee etc.

It does make Monarchs even more of a Going First deck than it already is though, without Stormforth to remove troublesome enemy stuff

Looks like both Drytron and Eldlich are banned from the event, which is where most of the worry was going to be, so that's good.

So I tried to do something pretty scummy today.

I figured since the game punishes you for surrendering and people love playing their awful floodgates decks. I thought I'd try letting the game time out to see if it would count as a surrender or not and to piss off my opponent.

So I got up grabbed a drink and came back, but I somehow auto surrendered. There was like 300 seconds left when I got up.

I know I deserved it either way, but now I'm curious. If the game doesn't detect any moves after X amount of time does it auto surrender early? I also saw a rumor that hackers can force a surrender on their opponent. But haven't bothered to look at any evidence for it.

Yes, if you don't touch a button for something like 30 seconds, you surrender.

Ah yeah that makes sense. I wonder if Konami will ever actually change the surrender penalty. It's pretty clear most people are annoyed with it.

I feel like the penalty is so small that it doesn't really mean anything. Maybe in an event like the one we currently have, sure, but usually a loss doesn't even get you 1000 points to get a 'reward' of a Legacy Ticket or two, which is awful anyway.

You get a tiny uptick in your battle pass with a loss, but in comparison to the amount of time you have to get to the max level, it doesn't even really factor into it. I think I finished the battle pass with something like 60 days to go on it, and that was playing a few games every day.

At this point I just surrender all the time if things aren't going well and face zero consequences for it.

The primary point about surrendering is that it doesn't advance quests at all, even ones that don't require you to win.

If you're playing enough games per day to hit that, it doesn't matter as much, sure. But of you're told to play three times as a daily quest, and you surrender two of them, you're only on 1/3 regardless of when you scooped.

Also, for the XYZ event, you get 1/2 rewards for losing and 0 for surrendering. The rewards seem pretty nice, too.

I've been min/maxing the quests for a little while now so I totally forgot that surrenders impact them.

I saw they were updating the shop but it's just a new structure deck. It makes me wonder how quickly they'll implement new booster packs though. Dawn of Majesty looked like it had some interesting cards.

I know Utopia is the cruel deck to use right now.
But I cannot pretend that it isnt beautiful to dodge Zoodiacs targeted destruction by forcing them to trigger their effect with an impending RUM spell on Utopia Double and then chaining Double's quick summon effect to bring in the 10000atk Utopia instead.

The race to self-burn in the event is fun but I keep losing it because my deck isn't optimized enough despite dumping most of my remaining N/R resources into it.

I've played seven games and only run into two non-self-burn decks.

also don't know if it's me but the game has been freezing quite a bit. guessing the server can't handle all the tomfoolery? also my computer may be acting up i guess

i came across a self burn deck but for some inexplicable reason they Ring of Destructioned my monster before i could help them lose faster, they ended up prolonging it themselves. so i then proceeded to stall it out by making XYZs and never attacking. they had to endure a grueling 3 more turns before they finally drew an out.

I'm back over 8k gems now thanks to this event and all the new missions. Gonna hold on to these for when the inevitable new pack comes out. I'm worried they'll do something like not allowing you to craft new cards for the first X amount of time after release in order to push sales and I really wanna make Swordsouls.

Don't know about you guys, but I went from having one Photon Strike Bounzer (SR XYZ monster) prior to 7 from the event. I didn't bother to check what the possible cards are, but I got one extra from a Legacy pack I got during the event, then I proceeded to open 10 XYZ event packs with 5 more of them.

I started to run into a couple suicide decks, but yeah, also in platinum and it's been mostly people playing for real.

Edit: In fact, my first game was a guy using Zoodiacs, but he must have Pot of Desire'd most of them, so after I Monster Reborn'd his Utopic Draco Future (can't be destroyed by card effect or battle) to destroy his used up ZEUS, he kept playing his staple monsters in defense mode, and I was drawing dead/badly misplaying at times, but in the end I won the tryhard duel with 400 LP after 23 turns (he had 8000 LP still when I hit 400).

Looks like they just upped the medals for winning from 100 to 500 to stop people killing themselves for speedier medals.

Yup. Rather take 1-2m for a guaranteed loss (And an outside chance of a win if I run into another self-burn) than build a deck that I probably won't play much after the event and spend 10+ minutes trying to win but still quite possibly (Most likely) lose anyways.

Then when I get to 3200 I just don't play it anymore because the reward dropoff is kind of obscene

I suppose next time they do this kind of event they need to penalize the rewards for not performing the required action. The current system is obviously degenerate.

I'm a bit surprised they addressed it at all, considering every indication I can find is that this has been a duel links strat for the entire existence of that game, and they never addressed it there.

I got 3800 medals really quickly this morning, still seemed like there was a ton of suicide decks. Probably 2/3 of my matches.
