For me it's Inverted for Controller and regular for mouse and keyboard

Inverted y-axis.

The combination of Descent and flight combat sims is responsible for that.

Situational. I invert the y-axis when I'm playing on a controller and the camera is first-person. Must meet both conditions.

Inverted Y on a controller for camera & first person view/flight
Uninverted Y for third person flight or using a mouse
Uninverted X at all times

Actually, with third person flight, that may only apply to things like Star Fox style corridor flight or Sin & Punishment style shooting gallery stuff, where it's more like positioning yourself onscreen as you automatically fly down a set path. If it's free-range flight I think I still invert Y in third-person.

I used to be inverted Y until Detroit of all things. Since you're more tilting the camera than rotating it vertically, inverted never made sense there. Then I went back to other games that I had played inverted and discovered myself to be constantly messing up.

I invert Y typically, but I have a tendency to not notice in games that don't have twitch aiming, I think.

this is one of those things that like double joystick movement has really eliminated. You kind of instinctively know based on your camera choice what's going to happen when you move a joystick a certain way if the game is designed well.

IMO this is more of a mouse thing and for first person flying things I prefer inverted.

It was inverted for a long time because most games were inverted controls by default during the PS1 and PS2 era but now it is regular camera controls all the way for me.
