Also for the Ghostbusters thing, that clearly was not made for the original fans. That's fine, I hope they captured the new audience they wanted to capture. It looks like a much smaller group based on the box office numbers but everyone has to start somewhere and maybe they will build it up into a big success.

I personally don't rewatch things over and over and over. For people who do, that's great, no judgement. Enjoy what you enjoy, I just rarely have the motivation/excitement to revisit. Probably revisiting 80's He-Man would be a major letdown. Seeing modern He-Man in adult situations seemed like a cool idea though and it was cool for those two minutes of screen time. I wanted more from the first five episodes. When people think Masters of the Universe they tend to think He-Man and Skeletor. If you could dig up sales on toys from the show in the 80's it was likely dominated by He-Man and Skeletor. Anyone who thinks this a woke accusation is free to think whatever they want but they miss the mark and are arguing with themself at that point.

But who's to say a straight up sequel that's just HeMan vs Skeletor would be good either? It could be written like crap with potholes all over the place.

Just like if the new Ghostbusters was the original 3 minus Egon. Do people really want to see 70 year old guys chasing ghosts?

Yes, I agree with you on the idea that it's probably better to try and launch a new franchise than revive an old one that will most definitely not be universally accepted, as it's nearly impossible to catch lightning in a bottle twice, but, sadly, no studio is really willing to invest triple-digit millions of dollars on a new idea anymore.

My counter argument to this is ten episodes featuring ten seconds of He-Man and Skeletor fighting is boring. They should have killed He-Man grusomly in the first scene, put that in prominent display in the trailer and sold the aftermath. People know what they're getting (without giving away creative twists) and it might come across with more hype and a more compelling pitch.

When absolutely no one else gave a crap about said franchise, fans were holding conventions, spending money, and keeping the property in the public consciousness when no one else cared. This is especially true with He-Man fans since absolutely no one cared about the franchise 10 years ago but the hardcore fans. So I always have a problem with people saying they dont owe the original fans anything. Well yeah, they do. Those were the people who kept the torch burning and enabled you to make your present project.

It's an odd conundrum though, as you know there's basically zero chance to renew/reboot/revive an "old" franchise without getting criticism from the die-hards of the original work.

Going all the way back to Tim Burton's Batman. Fans of the Adam West "Batman 66" crapped all over it.

There's very few Reboots/Revivals that are universally praised by fans of the original work.

The ghostbusters reboot that failed in 2016 was insulting and bashed men is the issue. It was especially noticeable with Kevin and Rowan with one being a complete fucking idiot and the other the biggest fucking loser put on screen for 2010s. That is not including all the humor that was mostly just disgusting garbage people did not find amusing or funny.

In the original Ghostbusters the comedy was actually funny, still is, and did not rely on gross out jokes. The cast was legit funny and worked very well together naturally, each one had a specific brand of humor yet it all hit because they knew how to do real comedy.

Shave one side of his head and that's '21 Teela. She's totally jacked and doesn't need a big magic sword to be strong. The only thing iholding her back is her fear of how awesome she is. She just needs to visit a Dark Side Cave on Dagobah-like place and face down her awesomeness, like look it right in the eye and tell it she's no longer scared to be great.

Adam was forced to pretend to be the lazy screw up to protect his secret. Its like Clark Kent pretending to be clumsy or Bruce Wayne pretending to be a playboy. But Adam was always, at his core, the same heroic character as He-Man. Thats why he was given the sword in the first place. The new show just completely doesnt understand that. Like I said before, the episode where hes in heaven completely undermines his character in every way. Adam never would seek a reward, would never hesitate in giving it up, and would always answer the call of people in trouble. Here, Adam isnt hiding his heroic personality, he straight up doesnt have one. Like I said before, when Grayskull said, this is your reward Adams immediate response should have been, I never did it for a reward. Instead he just sort of wanders through the portal like, oh geez.

I don't see your problem, I mean the show very clearly explains that He-Man was the first legendary hero to earn their way into "He-hala" and choose to be the weakest version of themselves for eternity. For reasons. Lucky for him, Teela shows up and after telling him off (instead of being shocked and relieved he's well and not rotting in the ground) she saves him and impresses all the legendary He-hala warriors in the process. But he wanted to be weak and its admirable to willingly regress to serve character development of others.

The problem isnt so much in the plot. Its in the characterization. Having Adam act one step above Lester The Unlikely is the problem. Adam was always a Master in his own right. Here hes just a pathetic loser.

Kevin Smith said this show is for adults. Adults want to see He-Man as weak and the most flawed character on the show. That's real and modern: a heroic superhero mighty and competent enough to make it to warrior heaven but also weak and pathetic enough to cough up his lunch money at peace rally.

Thats part of the joke, man. Its He-Man. Watching children make their first steps into that world & wondering how far theyll take yknow with their friends or by themselves is really truly magical. Same with Superman. How long was it before you realized that his disguise was inadiuqate?
