There were rumors from people working on the new show getting leaked. Fans expected various things, got few of them and the show runners alienated everyone in some way, including those they were trying to be more inclusive of. Fans expected a different show because of the trailer and the communication from Kevin Smith. Especially after leaks but before the release.

Kevin Smith lied many times on the lead up to the premier about what the show would and would not be. He did that in direct response to leaks about the show, calling those leakers liars. I'm not sure how he thought that would help anything. If he's proud of the work then stand by it. There would be nothing to hide, he made a show in a universe known for He-Man but about a different character. Instead he twisted the advertising and communication and it came out looking like a He-Man show not about He-Man but marketed as all about He-Man and he came out looking like an jackass. It would be like buying a package of Reese Peanut Butter Cups and opening it to find out that you actually got almost only peanut butter, with a few chocolate crumbs. The peanut butter is delicious but where is the chocolate that you enjoy most and that makes the peanut butter even better? It's right on the wrapper. You would be a little disappointed and if you were a little too invested in peanut butter cups you might get angry. Well, there is lots of disappointed and/or angry He-Man fans out there, some maybe who act like they have a peanut allergy. The worst part of this is that Kevin Smith is to blame because of how he handled it all. He should have stuck by the product and told the truth but he didn't. People who weren't interested wouldn't pay attention and those who were would tune in and be eagerly anticipating the release beforehand. Now he doesn't want to get in the bed he made and is telling fans who are unhappy with him to "grow the fuck up", which is comical in itself seeing how he's a 50 year old man who dresses like a 13 year old boy but anyway...

What do you think of the whole He-Man thing and how Kevin Smith handled the PR and the launch? Do you think Mattell is having second thoughts about their choice in leader to guide a show likely intended to move merchandise?

Anyway I remember two trailers. Was there a massive marketing blitz that I slept on?

I havent watched it, and probably wont. But I did see tweets and stuff of him saying "Its going to be about He-Man" and from what it get He-Man dies in the first episode. If that's true, then he definitely lied.

Edit: but honestly, I stopped respecting him entirely as a story writer when he made Batman piss himself from a flashbang.

I have no problems with the show itself and I'm actually happy it focuses on Teela because I like amazonian warrior women, but Kevin Smith has been a complete moron in how he's handling it, including straight up lying to the fan base, even right now after its out. He's telling them the sky is purple when its blue. I just don't get what he's doing, its like he's lost his mind or something.

The show is a sequel to the original. One of the key elements of the narrative was Teela trying to figure out who He-Man is and what would happen if she did.

It's fine that people don't like his creative choices, it's fine that people would have preferred a different character. Sometimes you go to see a movie and it isn't good, then you move on with your life. This didn't even have an admission, so unless you signed up to Netflix solely to watch this show you didn't really even pay anything.

Are people going to be upset with all things that have unexpected twists now? Is it required that you spoil things for people ahead of time now? Were people really mad about Brave, because it wasn't about what the trailers led people to believe?

It's still a show about the Masters of the Universe. And it's also not even done, this was just part one.

It's like he forgot what happened with the last Star Wars trilogy. Branding all people who are dissatisfied as immature or sexist or racist or wherever he wants to take it will only further crush the goodwill in the product he was hired to enhance, not destroy. They should mute him, do whatever it is they have planned and shoot straight with the audience that's left.

I didn't pay attention to any of the news surrounding this show beyond watching the trailers. I really do not care what Kevin Smith did or didn't say/imply.

I watched the show and found it pretty entertaining. Nothing ground breaking but worth an evenings binge. I now see people losing their minds about sequel to a poorly animated 80's toy commercial is like ruining its legacy and it just makes me roll my eyes.

It presented the movie as if it was going to be an adventure and all we got was a tomboy shooting arrows. It had a good mother-daughter dynamic though.

That movie was way better than the first five episodes of the new He-Man series though. A 50 year old who dresses like a sloppy 13 year old kid can tell their customers to "grow the fuck up" if they're delivering that.

I did not go into that movie expecting a mother-daughter bonding experience over the mother being turned into a bear for the majority of the movie. The trailer almost exclusively showed the very start of the movie, where she didn't want to be married and I expected something much more normal?

I suppose a better comparison was MGS2, and a bunch of people did get super angry at that, so I guess nothing has changed.

The only reason he is where he is at now is because the people who held love for all these old IPs. He made a movie that talked about geek things in the 90s and people still giving him work because of that. He is a bad writer.

HE called people liars for point to where the story was going to go. Also nuts to that shit. People have been keeping the IP of the he-man alive for He-Man. And you going to tell those people fuck you. Just like they did with Luke Skywalker and the Mandarin.

Now if they made a She-Ra show and it was all about a male character. I 200% bet She-Ra fans would be upset .

Also while we are at it. I was pissed at the Cat section of Soul. Always trying turn black people into some type of fucking animal .

Also it gives Ammo to these right wing Youtubers to say hey look at this look at this woke woke woke woke. And that kind of stuff. Like it this guy name Something Drinker who doesn't review shows , but he did this one just to complain about the wokeness. Well that was predicated on Randor getting really mad and banish-y after, admittedly, learning about the death of his son, being unaware of his double life, and learning that his wife knew. He kicked Duncan (Teela's adopted father) out of the country and basically the entire team fell apart. Teela lost her best friend who was also lying to her, felt super betrayed and that was it.

It's heavy, but not out of the question, and it's meant to kick off the main plot anyway.
