I think this thing is being blown outrageously out of proportion. Having watched it it seems pretty clear their intention was to have He-Man move out of the way for a few episodes to develop everyone else and then have him appear in the end. Just seems like theyve been fed over by Netflix because only half the show is out.

For me the reason for Teela abandoning everyone she knew was pretty unbelievable, but then I never really watched the original series so idk the backstory much.
No, that was unbelievable. A father and mother (who only minutes prior promoted her to the highest rank in the military because of how strong, honourable and competent she is) just lost their son and her response is fuck you, I quit and turn my back on everyone because you didn't tell me He-Man's identity.

In the Filmation series, Teela's recklessness and ill-temper in situations that she does not agree with often lead to poor judgment, which results in risky situations. Unaware of Adam's dual-identity and duties that go with it, Teela often scolds him for being work-shy, fearful and unattentive to his training.

Source: Grayskull wiki

And it's been a long time for me, but I seem to recall every so often that Teela would be suspicious of the Adam/He-Man dynamic, but it never actually led anywhere.

Some men were intimidated by her masculine physique. Teela too looks like she's ready to get in the ring with Mike Tyson but He-Man ain't exactly a fair representation of a man who doesn't juice and live at the gym so this is silly shit. For Teela, to have this role in the new show, she needs the edge that comes with steroid use. Everyone is doing it and there clearly is no random drug testing occurring.

I liked it. That is all that matters to me.

I have my doubts at just how hated it truly is. The Comicsgaters/fandom menace crowd are well known for sending their fans to ratio anyone who says bad things about them and sends them to the audience score of shows and movies they think are woke to down vote them. So I don't trust the audience scores of anything targeted by those groups.

I don't think Masters of the Universe revelations is as hated as it seems to be. Most discussions on it seem positive.

And it's also top 10 on Netflix right now, on a list that also has all the Twilight movies coming to Netflix. People are watching and hopefully enjoying it. All this press has done well for it.

People are going to watch it even if they don't like it. He-Man was a big brand from the 80's, there's nostalgia at work and curiosity. I suspect a lot will tune in for the second half of season one. The real indicator will be how popular it is in season two.

Plus, is it really a bait & switch is, say, in the 2nd half of the season is He-Man coming back to life and kicking the shit out of Skeletor?

It's 5 episodes of a 10 episode arc. I plan on letting it all play out before I pass judgement.

Taking this right now for what has been presented, rather than reverse engineering based on a belief: it does looks like a bait and switch.

When season one is done that may change. People are judging this by what is available on screen and what has been communicated (primarily by Kevin Smith). That's probably as fair a judgement as you're going to get in this day in age where many things are judged by what's convenient to a viewpoint, rather than by the facts.

The most powerful man in the universe, He-Man, goes against the evil forces of Skeletor to save the planet Eternia and to protect the secrets of Castle Grayskull

This is the original series' synopsis. If a show is called He-Man then this is what you expect. That's all I'm gonna say without watching the new show.

The show is called "Masters of the Universe: Revalation", and the synopsis on Netfilx is:

After a calamitous battle fractures Eternia, Teela and an unlikely alliance must prevent the end of the Universe in the sequel to the '80s classic.

So I don't know what else people were expecting from the show.

Well, he didn't exactly earn the steroid sword of destiny. The only person on the show to earn the "Juice Sword" would be Skeletor. Well played, taking him out in that transformation Juice Sword forcefield thingy everyone just assumed couldn't be penetrated. So, you can't argue that He-Man doesn't have some privilege. He did perform well in his cheesey Saturday morning cartoon universe with the Juice Sword though.

Because the conclusion at the bottom doesn't match the context of the scene. For one, neither is fully in the right or fully in the wrong. They each call a truce on it by the end of the episode and I suspect it's going to be further resolved by the end of the next five episodes.

Furthermore, Teela isn't mad at Adam for dying. She was mad at him for never confiding in her, his best friend, when he confided in others close to them. That hurt is real, and Adam dying doesn't make it better.

Also Adam didn't die "to save Teela" specifically. He died in his general universe-saving role as a champion. To put it another way, he was a soldier fighting for his country and the argument that meme is making is basically saying he's owed respect and forgiveness for doing his duty. I'm sure we've all heard stories of soldiers who hide behind their service to excuse their behavior in civilian life.
