Gotta be careful when turning in Wonderous Trails to not waste the huge chunk of HP it gives you on a level capped job. You get that even if you fail to get any lines.

It's tough to do Wonderous Trails before hitting cap on a character, though. Technically possible but way easier if you can do unsynched solo stuff.

Sat in a queue for minstrel's ballad: Ultima's Bane for a little over an hour while I got stuff done. Nice to have that out of the way, and the extra poetics gave me enough to get the ilvl 270 bow (everything else is in the 140-145 range), so that was sweet! Also that piano remix of Matoya's theme was quite good!

In the future you can use the Party Finder for stuff like that and it'll fill faster. Extreme Trials (Minstrel's Ballad's are a subset of those) typically get run via people joining premade parties in Party Finder and going in manually. It also allows you to unsync it (allow people to go in above the normal level/item cap) which is how people typically do outdated fights in this game. And if you want to experience it as intended you can find people to do it that way as well. If you advertise newbie bonus you'll probably get takers either way.

Everyone does this at some point when they start playing, lol. Maybe they should make it more obvious.

Will keep this in mind! As well as previous advice to use that for Coils of Bahamut. How much time should I set aside for each turn?

Depends on if you're doing in sync'd (at level) or unsync'd (using Undersized Party option).

If synced, then probably a fair bit of time depending on how long it takes your party to grasp mechanics.

If unsynced, then about 5 minutes as level 80s shred each boss.

I do not understand how anyone could possibly have a position that idling is a good thing. Sure if the servers aren't at capacity, who cares, but when people are actively being prevented from playing the game, how could you defend the mentally deficient Kotaku bloggers complaining about timing out people that are literally just taking up space?

The best part is, that same Kotaku article could have been a different spin on clickbait complaining about how "Not having an idle timeout disproportionately affects minorities somehow". It blows my mind that people still treat Kotaku as credible since Schrier left.

An addendum to my post about beating 4.0 - finally doing a level 70 dungeon really hit me with the fact that I need to redo my DRG hotbars. Had to do some annoying juggling to get some of my damage up.

I read through the filings out of curiosity, and while my BS detector is going haywire through most of it, I 100% believe that there is a ton of low-key sexual harassment happening there. Regardless of how this lawsuit shakes out, you have to love how strangely tone deaf Blizzard's response was:

Instead, they rushed to file an inaccurate complaint, as we will demonstrate in court. Also, last night I was finally able to get the Dataqi Chronicles FATE chain in Azim Steppe beat. I've been trying since Stormblood, but its impossible to solo and noone was ever intersted in doing it. You have to love how Square uses the relic grind to get people to play old content like that. A lot of things would be impossible to do without a large group of people premade if not for relic quests.

Also cleared PotD level 100 last night. Was nice to take a break from Eureka/Bozja for a change.

Oh they wiped multiple times to the skeletons. They had to do it right. But it's something I've seen happen even on normal runs so

There were some other mechanics that you technically dont skip but that just dont matter at 130 that I wasnt aware of (like I knew the skeletons do raid damage when they reach bone dragon, but I never realized that theyre slower if they die apart from each other). I also didnt know that you were supposed to discharge towers on king behemoth (and apparently no one in Asmons group did either!)

Scylla's extra phase is pretty intuitive so I don't expect any problems. Glasya will probably cause a wipe the first time but it's not actually hard so it won't be a wall or anything

Oh yeah people still wipe there but it's a matter of not enough healing because you can just heal, shield, and pray through those now.

The towers I actually forgot about. I don't think I've seen people do those since Heavensward where you still had two tanks per party!

Also I will confess: I still don't know what the fuck is going on during the Scylla fight, I just hit the boss until it dies and...I wanna say try to melt frozen people sometimes?

I wonder if the number crunch is going to make old duties closer to min ilevel sync or if it's gonna be too miniscule to notice

Scylla tethers three elements to people:
Lightning peeps are supposed to take the orb to power towers, for use later (this never happens anymore)
Ice peeps get frozen. If they get thawed by a fire guy, it creates a water field, which reduces the damage of ancient flare. If an ice guy gets frozen on a place that's already water, everyone on the water gets frozen
Fire peeps just thaw ice dudes

Eventually scylla like puts up barriers or something and you need people to stand on pads as you kill adds, but if pads weren't powered, oops

This min ilevel stuff is going to be a lot more frustrating when they start getting to stuff that just isn't designed for it in the late game.

Fights are always designed for minimum item level, that's the point of the feature. Everything has a requirement you have to meet to get in, what min IL does is set everything you have to that baseline. It changes by duty, it's not a set standard.

It's interesting he's actually doing it this way because it's as close to a "pure" experience you can get (minus job and battle system changes) and it's not something that's really done anymore.

It would be interesting to see him handle, say, pre-nerf Heavensward raids at min IL (for history, Gordias and Midas were so notoriously difficult in a time before cross-world parties existed that it nearly killed the raid scene), but since they changed most of those fights I guess I'll have to settle for Ultimates.

You know what, I did actually forgot that there was a different minimum ilvl for each of the tiers, and that it wasn't just flat across the raid.

I never actually experienced an ilvl issue throughout the entire game until 5.5 came out, so it was never really retained.

Well except that one time I was getting bodied by the level 60 RDM quest, lol.

Yep. Each expac basically has 3 tiers of gear. And if you haven't experienced it, the difference it makes is VERY significant for endgame content.

You'll learn all about it in Endwalker when you have to fight the final boss and do extreme trials before the weekly tomestone and raid gear even exists!

I have made absolutely no strive towards endgame gameplay because of my leveling focus, so it will be another few months before I try to actually "get good".

Nobody even does min ilvl week 1, because crafted gear already puts you ahead for the first couple of fights.

I don't do any of the roulettes yet, as I get plenty of exp during the MSQ (as advised by some of you, so thank you!). But sometimes I'll do the Trial roulette, as it's fun fighting bosses. Since that first run of multiple Thornmarches, I've gotten multiple different ones (Battle on the Big Bridge/Keep seem to like popping up). But today, Thornmarch again...

4 tries this time. The first two, neither of the tanks kept the King in any specific area, so he essentially wandered around murdering people. Third try was better, but the whirlwind thing by one of the moogles took out 6 people.

Good lord do I hate that one...

Oh damn, Heavensward beaten!!

Every part of Azys Lla was awesome. That last dungeon was super cool, though with a name like The Warring Triad, I was waiting for other specific battles. Maybe later? Time will tell.

The final boss fight against The fucking Knights of the Round was epic as hell! Yeah it wasn't super hard or anything, but the atmosphere was insane, the beginning of the boss theme really set it up as a fight of gigantic proportions, and some of those attacks were super cool.

Overall, I was super impressed with Heavensward. Less fetch quests, more epic battles, most of the dungeons were much cooler than ARR, and it was just a great experience in general!

Got the ilvl 270 bow and body armor so far, so will need a bunch more poetics for the other stuff, but definitely a good start. Ended up finishing the Relic Reborn quest too, mainly to unlock the Hydra trial, and to have the bow glamour just in case. I've seen a couple party finders come up for Coils of Bahamut, so may create my own at some point to go through it.

Heavensward patches may be just as strong as the expansion proper, if not better, so you have plenty to look forward to.
