As long as you're not changing to Viera or Hrothgar, yes.

Also hairstyles are linked to character, not account, so if you create a new character you won't have access to any non-base hairstyles.

Haha I enjoy being surprised, and add in the nostalgia from other FF games, and it's perfect!

Took down the White Whale and got a bunch more story afterwards. I love the pacing of Heavensward so far, and the story itself has been quite good!

Correct.

If you really need to see what the hairstyles will look like before buying a fantasia, I believe you can use a Retainer Fantasia and enter THAT character creator in-game and see the full options with your unlocked hairstyles, then save the appearance data.

Also yeah retainer fantasias exist, people sell them pretty cheap on the MB, and I didn't learn this until years after I started playing

Both of my retainers quick ventures came back with the retainer fantasia yesterday at exactly the same time, which I took as a sign. Went ahead and used the second free one you get....somehwere, I don't remember where it comes from, lol.

The retainer fantasia itself seems...I dunno, pointless? Bells are always swarmed so it's not like you even see them. Maybe once I get a house, I assume you can actually set them up there?

Retainer Fantasias exploded to about 80k on my server recently; last I needed one they were maybe ~15k.
Thankfully my retainers keep coming back with them so I'm good with the price explosion.

I'm assuming a lot of returning players wanting to turn their old retainers into new races is the cause.

Yeah, you can set them up in the front yard of a house so other people can see them and buy items directly from them. But let's be real: I'm not sure if anyone actually does that so it's still just cosmetic.

When you aren't selected, you get 1 notoriety. Eventually you'll have the highest notoriety and will get picked.

Edit: Unless you're just not getting the duel at all, in which case it's because you didn't do the CE prior to the duel perfectly. You have to not mess up a single mechanic (No vuln stacks) and not die to qualify for a duel.

Obviously, only one person can get picked for a duel, no matter how many qualify. Every time you get passed over, your Notoriety increases by 1, and duelists with higher notoriety have a much higher chance of getting picked.

Getting picked also resets your notoriety to 0, so if you get picked, make it count.

They also do it when every new expansion comes out as well.

RIP free trial, free players will only be able to log in when the queue is clear. But they're trying to increase the amount of people that can be logged in at once.

Also looks like they were planning new worlds/servers besides the Oceania one for 7.0, and have been unable to speed up plans for 6.0 due to COVID shortage and travel restrictions still being a factor. So this is just gonna be how it is for a while.

It was hours of players getting 10-20 minute queues, not hours of sitting in queues.

For reference on Cactuar, a brief queue of a minute or two, maybe up to 5 minutes at worst, is pretty typical for peak hours on a content-heavy patch. But I haven't played since the WoW migration.

I agree, but consider that when the expansion launches it's going to get even worse than that. The amount of new players is so high that it's causing expansion launch level server strain during a period of time where the "typical" core users are inactive. That's insane, and if new players stick around for Endwalker it means an order of magnitude more stress than the devs were planning for. The devs are probably freaking out and as that post explains, they don't exactly have a lot of options.

From SE's perspective they probably weighed the options and figured that the WoW exodus is more publicity than the free trial meme and might as well try to pick up sales as they unfuck everything.

Some stuff counts as "active menuing" and won't put you into afk. I know interacting with a retainer and crafting both work, and I think adjusting the HUD through the menu also counts.

Maybe they mentioned this somewhere and I missed it, but I would hope that the AFK kick doesn't occur if you're actively queing, right?

Summoning bells, placards, and HUD layout all seem to work to not get kicked.

Ill just deal with the afk logout for normal play, but for a couple of the fish I need I literally will need to wait around for hours in the Tempest or Yanxia, and Im sure not going to risk having to remember to tab over every 25 minutes!

Spent half of a Tam Tara run figuring out how a tank can be a mentor that not only played terribly but also forgot tank stance for 3 pulls, only to realize it was a CRAFTING mentor.

A lot of the Stormblood stuff is awkward at making an excuse for why certain people aren't going certain places or doing certain things. The entire setup for the main middle chunk is questionable at best, nonsensical at worst.

Naw just the bigger ilevel every time for now. I guess depending on your melding build there might be some back and forth for certain gear slots at level cap for best in slot, but for all content before cap its just bigger number auto equip every time.
