Reigning_King 07/09/21 7:15:07 PM #1:	...while hiking? I was up in Glacier National Park last week and it was full of people, many of them with their kids and such. Now for women, if they want to wear impractical clothes to go hiking (like nearly all of them were) that's fine. As adults they can decide what they want to do and suffer the consequences. Hell sometimes I ride my bike in jeans just because I like wearing jeans even though they're bad for riding. Also if this was the city (or almost anywhere that wasn't a mosquito, bee, tick, poisonous plant, sharp rock, and slippery slope having mountain), like were I am now in Seattle, I wouldn't have any issue with it since wearing such clothing is sensible in this heat and urban environment (as long as they put sunscreen on all that exposed skin). But in this case either the parents picked out the clothes to bring on their trip and are utter fools, or they let the kid pick and didn't bother checking and vetoing the poor (but understandable) decision making of their child. slacker03150 07/10/21 9:35:45 AM #6:	I don't see the problem. It's hot and she will be being active so she is wearing shorts to be comfortable. Wearing pants has never stopped me from being bitten by ticks or mosquitoes. Shorts allow a better range of movement that makes tripping and falling less likely although admittedly more painful if it does happen, but scrapes and bumps are not the end of the world. And hiking trails are generally clear of poison plants. As long as she is wearing sensible shoes she should be fine. --- I am awesome and so are you. I think the issue he's talking about leaving their legs almost entirely uncovered, which means they're more likely to get suffer from environmental hazards. However, if you're on a main path, I'm not sure that's as much of an issue. If you're actually going through the woods itself, you're going to want to keep your legs covered. Even when it's hot, it's pretty fucking stupid to leave your legs uncovered when going through brush. Regardless, pants should definitely be used while hiking. It doesn't stop these things, but it does absolutely limit them to some degree. More-so if they're tucked into your boots. It helps for sure. Shorts open up a huge range of issues, the most obvious is poison ivy or something along with many little scratches that jean pants or something would prevent. Hiking and shorts doesn't work that well together even if they can be more comfy. Unless of course you're just walking on a huge open trail.
