It's ok, I don't mind. Although you seem to have reached an impasse on the subject...

I didn't think it was too bad but I was expecting it to happen.
honestly thought some of tidus's other interactions were way weirder... and the other characters asked them if they were crazy, so it was on purpose (others didn't seem that way)

Glad you're liking the game so far. It's been over fifteen years since I last played through, so I can't really comment on anything other than major plot or late-game loot spoilers. I even forgot about the existence of Sphere Grid locks until someone in this topic brought it up, lol.

For real. In all my playthroughs, I've won that game ONCE.

I usually win now because I know what I'm doing, but for a first game its utter bullshit .

they can score without you even pressing a button if they have possession, and I "think " they always start with possession

multiple times they started and scored immediately and when they didn't its because the AI did something really dumb

It's such an odd first game for the mini game.

Fun fact: If you score too much it goes to the Wakka scene early. One time I was winning 7-0 and it shows Tidus celebrating them just time jumps into the cutscene

Also Spike's advice about cheesing is awkward

if you go behind your own goal, the enemy just spins in circles

But if you're not winning then thats a bad strategy and they'll get possession back at halftime . So you have to be 2 - 0 up or confident that you can score if they score to cheese it

IMO it's better to just play

The AI did stupid things like fumble the ball by passing it really far or breakthrough 3 players when they have terrible ENG

Mixed in with lucky RNG about the keeper not saving goals he easily could have

Once you know what you're doing you'll pretty much always win but it's pure luck whether you win 9-0 or 3-2 or 1-0. That's why it's bullshit

Also, even if you know what you're doing you can lose if the rng hates you enough. Your defense/goaltending aren't good enough to stop the Goers if they play smart, and there are three random blitzoffs (start of each half, and when Tidus subs in). If the Goers get possession on all three of those, and score every time they have possession, the best you can do is tie by scoring when you get the ball after their goal--and if they score when you don't have enough time to answer, you lose.

It always seems like the Goers start with the ball. I don't think I've ever started with it

One of my pet peeves is you can't turn off auto control until you get the ball (on PS2 anyway) it takes a second to do so, and I that second your auto controlled player may have done something dumb, like swim towards the player he got the ball from instead of away

One tip of spoiler-free advice, TC: even though Blitzball is available to play as a sidequest after Luca, I'd highly recommend saving it until the endgame. Point is, there's a lot of great 'free agent' players around the world - specific NPCs who can be recruited to play for the Aurochs, and many of them have much better stats than the existing Aurochs (I'd recommend using a guide or faq for this particular aspect, or asking us for advice when the time comes). The problem is, after every blitzball game there's a recruitment round where other teams randomly lose, gain and / or trade players; there's always a chance that these great free agents can get snagged up by other teams, after which the odds are severely against you that they'll ever be free agents / recruitable again.

tl;dr - don't play any optional Blitzball games until you reach the endgame; read a faq / ask here for advice about the best free agents to recruit so you can start the season with a strong team, and travel around recruiting them before any of the other teams have a chance to.

Get Attack Reels ASAP

It's really most broken attack in the game.

Well baring Zanmato but that doesn't count.

You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't get Attack Reels until the endgame

Hopefully I didn't imply that you shouldn't play Blitzball period; it's certainly more fun than it has any right to be. By 'endgame' I of course meant getting access to the airship, which is effectively endgame.

The advice for getting Attack Reels asap reminds me of people who will advise new players to get Lionheart on disc 1 in FF 8. Getting uber-gear early sounds fun, but can ruin a playthrough / first impression in the long run by sucking the challenge out of the game. This certainly happened to me with FF Tactics A2 and the Auction houses. Still, TC's mileage may vary, so that's up to them whether or not they want an uber-ability early in the game.

TC should at least wait until they get to the Calm Lands, so they don't run the risk of losing out on Naida. I always used Durren as my goalie, who's also in that relative area; wiki says he starts off as the best goalie but his stat growth is abysmal. Still, would make for a good low to mid-level player.

Thats not comparable at all

getting Lionheart requires a ton of knowledge and effort

Attack Reels is right there in front of you and doesn't break the game

Until the Endgame Aeon overdrives do more damage

Theres zero reason not to get attack reels

On the other hand, there's zero reason to get attack reels before endgame too. Game's easy enough (especially with a bit of leveling) that if you don't want to play a ton of blitzball you really don't need to.

Yeah don't bother with blitzball until endgame. Unless you really like breaking the game, getting Attack Reels isn't worth it. Wakka is always useful even without them. His homing blitzball is pretty funny when attacking certain bosses :D

Went through that motion path after the blocked gate (where the tall guy tells the Crusaders to let you throw)

Enemies are starting to pick up. Had to get a system down... Nul Blaze, rotating in certain characters for certain enemies. Starting to get good. 9 or 10 hours deep

OK I've seen both sides of the argument about blitzball. seems pretty easy to do try... it's at every save/warp place now. Maybe I'll give it a go... no rush. Taking my sweet time with this. Hoping my X/X-2 Steam hours are 100+, when all's said and done

lol I'm at 174 hours and haven't even finished grinding for the optional bosses yet. At least 50 of those hours were Blitzball too tho.

Great game. It was a half-step backwards from 8 and 9, but it was the last good final fantasy game ever made (13 was okay, but it was too much of a departure from the norm).

Blitzball can be fun but can get very easy quick with the right roster, I suggest playing as the original Aurochs for a challenge, you can even recruit Wakka later on but Datto is a good enough forward

Lulu and Yuna are legal. Yuna is 17 so I guess that might not be legal depending on where you're from, but in Spira she's obviously considered an adult. I had no idea Rikku was 15, I thought she was 17 too but that's FFX-2. She looks exactly the same in both games lol
