MAN FUCK SEYMOUR

Creep

Really enjoying the plot development outside that marriage proposal though. The farplane and flashbacks.

I started it a little bit after I beat FFIX but I'm burned out on JRPGs

I'm wondering if I should play X2 immediately after, or the same thing will happen

Other options... go into Ni No Kuni 2 (beat #1 about 8 months ago)... try the Tales series (own Symphonia and Berseria)... surely a few others I'm forgetting... or take a break

ehhh

I can very easily rant into 2 post long walls of text about FFX-2

But suffice to say it has an entirely different tone to FFX and shits on a lot of its plot and characters

I'd say play something else first

like Dragon Age

X-2 does have some of the best gameplay and the best use if the job system in the series however.

I prefer the job system in FFTactics, but I can't blame anyone for liking X-2's system. I wish I'd liked anything more about X-2 than just the combat, but....

I wish they had kept X-2s combat system for the rest of the franchise... A winning formula, yet they kept pushing action rpg instead of turn-based.

I want to play this again sometime. I never quite finished with the PS3 remaster.

I like this game a lot because Endgame stat maxing doesn't feel overly tedious and is quite doable making the optional content quite accessible if you have the time to put in.

Yeah, it's worth a go if you can find a copy. I can't remember the story being that amazing but the gameplay, exploration, skills, boss fights etc. were well done.

If you decide to play LotR:tTA just know that hard mode isn't anything remotely resembling balanced. On the one hand the enemies are ridiculously stronger and tougher compared to you, but on the other hand they give out a lot more XP.

Thats kind of an insane opinion. The level of tedium required to make FFX endgame content accessible exceeds the rest of the games in the series combined.

I value my time way too much to do any endgame content in any FF game.

Edit: not to mention that fighting Penance is just max them out. There's no difference in the characters which IMO is the best part of the game.

Hmmm. This conversation has made me realize that several of my favorite FF games have something in common: their endgame/postgame content is pretty accessible at expected endgame development. FFX is the main exception, and is also the one I've done the least endgame content in.

Oh I suppose you're thinking of the mini games for the crests and sigils and Blitzball. Only one of those I legitimately dislike is the dodging lighting 200 times. The rest I'm pretty good at. I also enjoy Blitz Ball which is funny because I'm not into sports at all but it's fun for me.

The stat maxing is pretty easy too, only bad part about that is catching all the monster types to fill our your coliseum but if you work on that along the way, that's not bad either. Once you have your coliseum finished its pretty efficient. Just farm certain monsters for direct stat boosts.

I don't really bother with it in other Final Fantasy games but it's not really necessary in other Final Fantasy games either.

You also really don't need to dodge 200 Lightning Bolts. Lulu is so useless by that point you're doing it solely for completionists sake. Besides that, Lulu doesn't gain anything from a Superweapon that you can't just make, since you're not going to be attacking with her, even at max stats.

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone says this.

I beat the game without dying once (Except one superboss who petrified a character who had petifry proof when she was in superform)

And not counting a handful of exceptions + superbosses, I beat nearly the entire game just by holding down X. There's absolutely no substance or strategy, you only learn abilities for the hell of it.

It has possibly the worst or at least most pointless combat in the entire series.

Pretty sure its not possible to beat it that way unless you do a shit ton of grinding hell pretty sure you have to press X to attack and not hold it down but UR being contrarian is his gimmick so I wouldnt pay it much mind.

On the PS2 you can just hold it down

And I did zero grinding although I did do side quests

Very little in the game is a match for just kicking the shit out of it and I was learning skills for the hell of it that I never used

I think its designed for people to purposefully play badly to experiment with random abilities and that's just silly to me

If you just attack, you pretty much always win immediately

Yeah that's pretty much the only reason to play FFX2 IMO

watching my friend play the game as a Tonberry and an amorphous gel was hilarious

Only reason I'd reccomend the HD edition
