Robotics;Notes beated. Huh, I really was super close to the end. Though part of that is because that felt like a pretty abrupt ending. I uh... kind of wish there was like a short epilogue or something more beyond where it ended. I feel like there were a number of neat ideas right there for the taking across the whole story and a few of them I was sure the story was leading up to but then it was like "nah lol."

Eh, I suppose it was an okay VN but that's a disappointment compared to the bars set by S;G, S;G0, and C;C.

okay I started up DQ8 3DS

I figure it's something I can play while my wife is Mass Effecting it up. I'm following a guide for this one because I want to make sure I don't get derailed like I did last time. The goal is to finish this playthrough more than anything else!

Mostly the Committee of 300. It's a shame because it's the connecting factor in these games, and it's always by far the worst element. Steins;Gate has the least amount of Committee nonsense and ends up the best. That's not a coincidence.

I forget the exact details because this was years ago, but there's a part where Dhoulmagus enters a cave (I think), and you need a certain item to follow after him. I didn't have it, I didn't know where to find it, and my motivation died.

I've got DaSH and will read it too, but probably after a bit of a break, so maybe in a month or two.

I don't mind the Committee stuff so much because it is the connecting thread after all, but it was particularly weak in this instance. In Steins;Gate it was far more background, but the portrayal of their agents in the forms of SERN and the Rounders was really menacing/creepy. In Chaos;Child they served more as secondary antagonists to Serika who was a far more interesting/compelling one. And Wakui as the actual Committee agent was also more menacing and the resolution/end of him being challenged by Takuru to a bet rather than an actual battle (well, Hana's route aside lol) was a lot better than what we got here. Even in R;N there was some Committee ideas that weren't bad like the idea of them producing an anime that was backed by massive propaganda to influence people was all right but the whole "kill 5 billion people" bit just came off as weak and while Kimijima himself as a character/villain was fine (and I liked the fact that it was explicit that his AR copy was legitimately flawed because it was a beta) like Mac said the whole literal possession/curse stuff was so bad. I explained how I think if they handled it like the idea I proposed for Misaki being psychologically broken over 10 years and driven crazy could definitely work but then they just trash that theory with puppeteer Airi and it's just dumb.

But then ideas they just left on the floor where disappointing too, like I was so sure that Airi was literally connected to AIri and that was the nature of the experiment Kimijima was running that time and Real Airi would reveal she was acting as AIri that whole time. Instead it was just "Nope lol, he just tested his AR copy idea on her and Real Airi experienced none of that." They even came close to flirting with it again when Real Airi got some of Geji-nee's info but that was the extent of it. It would have been less "scientific" but we were already playing so loose with science you can't tell me that's more BS than Kimijima possessing people. Same kinda lost opportunity with Kai conveying Irei's final words to Misaki. He does so to the fake and then it's just dropped. Hell, Kai even notes offhandedly right before the final confrontation he still needs to do this but that's the literal last time it is ever mentioned. I thought he'd use it to bring Misaki's personality back at a key moment, or as she was dying/defeated but nope. Just never addressed again.

Started the Three Houses DLC. At first I thought I was just really rusty on the mechanics because playing on Hard/Classic like I did for the main game and this was way tougher right from the start! Though it sounds like Cindered Shadows is considered to be a difficulty spike compared to the main game so I guess it wasn't just me.

Beat the first three chapters and so far the Ashen Wolves are pretty neat characters. Music is great too.

IIRC Cindered Shadows on Hard is considered more difficult then the main game on Hard but not as difficult as the main game on Maddening.

Finished up the Kaguya dub. Pretty solid. Looking forward to season 3 as I continue to work through the manga. I'm on volume 5 there, I think.

Just as a note, it's kinda hentai-ish.

I actually read the Kaguya manga up to the current chapter last week. It's pretty great stuff! I like it wayyy more than what I saw of the anime. I dunno, just feels like the comic timing is better. The series kinda gets better as it goes along too, up to a certain point at least (I like the comedy more than the serious parts, and the serious:comedy ratio increases as the manga goes). The romance gets pretty good as it goes along. It kinda reminds me of how a lot of shoujo series do romance, but with a twist. Maybe the best thing about the series is how unique and creative it feels? Like it's not just doing typical anime things (most of the time at least). The comedy never stops being funny, either. Just excellently constructed all around.

Main character ranking: Ishigami > Chika > Kaguya > Miko > Miyuki.

With Shirogane's dad as the #1 side character of course. Oh my god any scene with him is guaranteed to be amazing.

Top 4 are all legitimately amazing though and where I am with the manga (Volume 19) Iino looks to be on track to rise and threaten to move up! Papa Shirogane unquestionably the best side character. (With Hayasaka occupying a quasi main character role because I don't want to pick between them.)

Yeah, Hayasaka isn't quite a main character, but I wouldn't call her a minor character either. Shirogane's dad is a scene stealer every time he shows up though, yeah.

Speaking of College Football. I don't think I commented on it when it first came out but the 12 team playoff expansion is such a shameless cash grab and terrible idea.

I think 8 would work (Like take Top 4 ranking Power 5 conference winner, top ranking Group of 5 conference winner, 3 at-larges) and mostly end any complaints about opportunity to get in.

But 12? That's just legit ridiculous.

8 is the perfect number (5 major conference champions and 3 at-larges, which provides an opportunity for non-Power 5 schools to get in), so of course the NCAA just blows right past it because they never get anything right.

I've started getting more into semi-competitive LttP Randomizer racing over the past week or two and boy does it feel a lot worse when you make boneheaded decisions that probably cost you a race than it does when you're just playing seeds for fun.

Are they bad decisions where you should have known better or just making bets that turn out to be bad? I remember from watching a few runs that sometimes runners need to make a decision about whether to go to location A or location B and they only know which one is statistically better to go to but they don't know which one is really better until they look back later on.

In this case it was taking the statistically low % play vs. the high % one. And because the low % play routed me away from the high % area, I didn't get back there until later than I should have.

I guess technically yes, it would have been a big brain play if it paid off, but I still think it was likely incorrect in the situation.

FE Three Houses DLC beated.

Okay, the levels chilled out for the most part in the back half (Really I'd say it was 1 and 3 that were the trickiest, everything else was pretty relaxed for the most part) Well, there was a bit in the second-to-last map where I had to employ some galaxy brain Retribution strats to deal with a cluster of Bolting mages who were packed tight together and thus made any attempt to approach them conventionally suicide and controlled like 60% of the map.

The four new students seem like fun additions. (Hapi > Yuri > Balthus > Constance) and it was cool to have a mini-campaign where you have Edelgard, Dmitri, and Claude all together for the duration. The story of the DLC was also pretty nice for filling in some details that didn't make the main story (unless they do in Blue Lions/Golden Deer.)

So now I can start up the main story and play as the Blue Lions and see the main story additions from the DLC.

It definitely can be! Especially when the race was likely winnable if you swerved the other way.

But at the end of the day, Im over it after like 15 minutes and want to jump back in again.

I can definitely see how 4 could be tricky, yeah. Especially if you can't quickly deal with the enemies at the very beginning. Dmitri was basically my gameplay MVP lol. The trick with 4, I found, was timing when you passed the checkpoints to "advance" to the next stage of the map. It's pretty mean to have all that hidden until you actually do it, especially with only 5 Divine Pulses a map so it's not exactly trivial to just go "Oh, so that's what'll happen..." and rewind to adjust. I mean, I had to do that the very first time because while I was sure something would happen you just can't know exactly what until it happens and I was not ready lol. From there I just made some educated guesses on how things would go as you passed the next checkpoints and was pretty fortunate in that regard.

For me the early parts of the chapter went well but is started to fall apart by the end. For the check point into the final section I pretty much moved in the characters that were least capable of dealing with the reinforcements that showed up. I wasn't sure if I wanted to burn a Divine Pulse charge to fix it so I just went with it. In the end, I only barely made it to the end.

I am entering the Waterfall Cave in DQ8. I feel like I remember this dungeon from when I played it the first time because I died once and I got sent back to town with half my stuff, which really confused me (since this was my first DQ game).

I got into OoT randomizers for a bit there. Lotta fun for a bit but I think the 3D games just end up being too slow to be fun forever.

Yeah, I think the 3D games are just a little too long. LttP hits the sweet spot for me where once you're reasonably skilled it's never going to take more than 2 hours.

Yeah wipes in DQ cost you half your gold. Many of them have a bank where you can store excess gold you don't want to lose, but I usually just save often and restart if I die

Well, thankfully, the 3DS version has a quick save feature, so it'll make it easier to get back to where I was if I die.
