Watched a couple more episodes of the Kaguya dub. My wife generally isn't into slice of life, but I think she's actually into this one because it's just so absurd.

In Chapter 3 of Trails to Azure, just finished the conversation with Meister Rosenburg at the Doll Studio. A very informative conversation that makes more sense now that I've completed the Cold Steel games. I appreciate that they explained the difference between an Anguis and an Enforcer, even if I kinda already knew it. Also, the conversation makes it clear that the goal of Ouroboros isn't world conquest or anything along those lines, not with the way they allocate their resources. The revelations of CS4 provide some helpful context there.

I did that once just to bring him on as many missions as possible, although it does suck that you have to sacrifice pretty much everyone on the Normandy in the process.

Anyway, Trails to Azure Chapter 3 complete!

Holy crap, everything from the fight with Wald on was pretty incredible. So much good stuff here, and Chapter 4 looks to be upping the stakes even more. Did we just get a lot of NPC deaths?! I know Ilya doesn't die because of Cold Steel (although she must be pretty seriously injured because even by CS4, she's not back with Arc en Ciel yet), but the rest I'm not sure of just yet. Trails doesn't kill off many named characters, so we'll see.

Azure is pretty much just straight-up amazing from here on IIRC.

I came into this thinking it would be a 5 chapter game like Zero, but I don't see how that's possible considering they haven't even touched on KeA as the Zero Child or created the Azure Tree yet. I guess they could squeeze it into the last two chapters, but I feel like there are still too many plot threads dangling before they even get to it!

I don't quite agree with that but I do think this is pretty much where Azure started kicking things into overdrive. The final chapter is long enough though that I think it's inevitable some parts don't hit as hard.

(Azure Chapter 3 spoilers) I unfortunately don't really like what they do with Wald in this game, but yeah everything else is great. Love Randy's scene after the fight with Shirley. Also this probably didn't surprise you as much after having played Cold Steel 4, but I definitely remember getting chills going to the marshlands for the first time and seeing them filled with pleroma grass. Also some great Rixia content here and the more Rixia the better as far as I'm concerned.

I do think it's a bit lame that Wald just becomes a Gnosis demon, but seeing him just sitting and chilling on the Red Constellation airship as they make their getaway had me chuckling at the absurdity. I enjoy it more for what it's brought out of Wazy than anything else. He's been fantastic in this game (and if I didn't already know he was a Dominion, him immediately knowing who Arianrhod and the Stahlritter were would've been a giveaway!)

Also, we totally ran over an NPC with the car driving to the IBC building!

The atmosphere in the wetlands was excellent, and heck yeah Rixia. She's always great. I've kind of felt like Lloyd the Motivational Speaker is a bit overstated within the games themselves, but he definitely earned it after the Shirley fight. Great scene.

One of the charms of Trails games is how used you get to the routines of otherwise meaningless NPCs. In the Crossbell games, I always go to the Downtown District and check on what Van's drunk dad has to say, wondering if I'll ever actually get to go inside. Today the door was unlocked and he wasn't inside, so now I'm wondering what happened. I feel like there aren't many series that get you invested like that. Maybe Persona, but not to this degree.

yeah, i liked vegeta vs 18. kind of a short-lived reign for SSJ vegeta, but it was a solid fight

meanwhile, started up famicom detective club last night - decided to just buy one (missing heir or something) since there're other games coming down the pike that i'm also interested in. the writing/gameplay isn't as sharp as i'd hoped, but the mystery seems reasonably interesting. i'm surprised at just how on-rails it is compared to even phoenix wright.

at the graveyard right now. the legend of the family was probably my favorite bit so far. also i'm not sure how the protagonist's amnesia contributes to the plot at all - feels very much just like an out-of-place 1988 "choose your name" element?
