AAI1-3: Kidnapped Turnabout

Kay Faraday runs in with her MacGuffin, saying we can add all the testimonies together and figure out exactly what occurred in the haunted house.

We talk about a Badger at the end of the hallway, who we suspect then got up and struck Edgeworth as he turned out of the Dining Room to leave out the Exit. Lance claims he was never in the Haunted House, and tries to pin it on Colin/Oliver.

Kay sets things up, we figure the Badger was perhaps the Bad Badger who attacked Edgeworth, we figure out it must have been with the Prop Sword that was then brought elsewhere and used to bar the door, after which it was broken. A luminol test reveals a small amount of blood [presumably from near Edgeworth's temple].

Now we're staring at the generated image of the Bad Badger about to attack Edgeworth with the Prop Sword. I've got Logic, Deduce, and Organizer options >____> we'll see next time!

I really like the Haunted House recreation. It salvaged the case for me.

AAI1-3: Kidnapped Turnabout

We learn that the end of the hallway is a reflection of an angled mirror, the sound of breaking glass Edgeworth heard was related to that. The seated Badger was the body of the victim. Lance squeals, and Lang arrests both Lance and his father, Mr Amano! Apparently there was a smuggling ring and Mr Amano must have let Colin Devorae take the fall for it, doing jail time and everything.

Between Lang and his assistant Shih-na, we learn that Lang's family of police had their reputation dragged through the mud via falsified evidence and that's why he hates prosecutors. Knowing that Edgeworth learned under Von Karma [who was known for falsifying evidence or at the very least, not losing a case in a weirdly long period of time], he suspected Edgeworth of being untrustworthy and working in league with Mr Amano.

Kay teases Edgeworth and Gumshoe about not remembering her and whisks out a white scarf. That seems familiar, but ehhhh...

This was pretty convoluted as AA cases go, and instead of making me excited to find the next clue, I had to take a couple months off XD Even after solving it, it didn't really seem to come together for me. I was happy it was over, and read the chronological writeup elsewhere to grok what even happened. :|

AAI1-4: Turnabout Reminiscence

I guess that scarf takes us back - Kay Faraday, the 2nd Yatagarasu, is taking us on a trip down memory lane. We get a flashback to 7 years ago. Mr Faraday [Kay's...??] is serving as prosecutor when the defendant on the stand suddenly admits to the murder, and insists that he did it at the Yatagarasu's behest! The defense is stunned, and upon further questioning the defendant points out Mr Faraday as the Yatagarasu! He knows for sure! The Judge suggests a recess until the prosecutor can be replaced.

It's BABY. EDGEWORTH. With his more ridiculous jacket. With all the bells and whistles. Yayyyy.

MvK urges him to CRUSH the defendant's lies! D: Goodness I barely forgot the imposing presence that MvK brings to my tiny DS Lite screen, but this is a great refresher.

We will probably poke around this room as Baby!Edgeworth next time, we've got an hour of recess [the mental image I have of MvK running up out of nowhere, bellowing, "I'VE GOT A PROTEGE TO REPLACE THIS USELESS PROSECUTOR" is hilarious] to get up to speed.

AAI1-4: Turnabout Reminiscence

oh no the victim is Mr Deid Mann, we're scraping the bottom of the barrel

The defendant, Mack Rell, is insisting that although there's security footage of him killing the victim, he was put up to it by the real Yatagarasu, Byrne Faraday.

People are calling this the second KG-8 incident!! Amano Group scandal involved Mr Ernest Amano's secretary confessing to smuggling. An employee of the Group, Cece Yew XD was the one who said "I see you" >_> Unfortunately, she was silenced before she could testify. A man named Manny Coachen was found not guilty through lack of evidence. Wonder if Manny Coachen is Mr Jacques Sportsman's dad or uncle or something.

The Yatagarasu is being kept very hush-hush for some reason. We're urged to ask Mr Faraday for more info.

Kay comes by and tells Manfred he's scary, lol.
She also trades some change for a paper dollar from Edgeworth. Maybe. Unless she's already learned some tricks, in which case she has two dollars.

We enter the courtroom next time! See you then!

We go to the courtroom, but a youthful detective busts in and yells about the defendant AND Mr Faraday being dead in the other room! Karma sputters, insisting the bailiff take him away. Young Mr Edgeworth runs off to the scene of the crime, but he's blocked by a scruffy, tall German Shepherd of a man, scarred all over, his trenchcoat riddled with giant bullet holes and other weathering. This man will not allow anyone in.

We question the detective, one Dick Gumshoe by name, and he says Det. Badd is leading the investigation, so you'll have to pursue details through him. Gumshoe was on guard detail for the Defendant Lobby No. 2 at the time of the shooting. There is a moment of recognition between the two of them for how scary it is to hear a gunshot. Weird, bc there was no sound of a struggle.

Goodness, I forgot how annoying it was to see young Edgey aping Karma's mannerisms. It makes him seem like such a jerk.

We speak to Calisto Yew next, and upon introduction as a mentee of Karma, she starts cracking up laughing. Those clothes are a dead giveaway, she says. Welp. They sure are. She keeps laughing at your manner of speech, your tactlessness and how much of a little Karma clone you are. Time to call the Karma police [tell me what band and you get a cookie].

Turns out Calisto Yew is the lawyer in this case. She's hanging around because of the murder.

We meet Det. Tyrell Badd from Homicide. Gumshoe wants to be an Ace Detective just like him in time. He was on hand to testify about the Yatagarasu's characteristics. Apparently there was a gun and a knife, and Mack Rell had the bloody knife in his hand. No one else but the victims and Det. Dick Gumshoe, entered the room. They have the cutest little 'no brain in head' sprite animation of Gumshoe when Badd points him out, pffff.

Okay, continued investigation next time! See you then!

(Which is part of why I'm not a big fan of E1-4. They try to downplay that aspect of his character)

I mean, it's part of his character arc! We have to see the full development. Make him as jerky as possible when he's young, so we can appreciate the improvement!

i think by making edgeworth the protagonist, they definitely downplay the jerk aspect. he obviously has more edge in 5-5 than in 3-5 or the edgeworth games.

I'm not sure what's worse about the case, the characterization retcons or Calisto Yew's existence

Also it's not necessarily just about removing the edge. Young Edgeworth is literally corrupt. He doesn't care about the truth!

There's someone to see Calisto Yew [hereby known as Ms. Yew, which, we don't] - it's Manny Coachen, the Cohdopian Embassy staff member and suspect in the KG-8 incident. The two of them leave to have a chat, which, suspich, but okay...

MvK shows up, trades barbs with Det. Badd, and just as MvK is about to place Edgeworth in charge of the investigation... a small girl runs up with a tiny riding crop. Oh... Oh goodness. Franziska is adorable. She's trying to be so competitive and sassy, but it's cute XD The longer hair is a choice, between that and the lack of white blouse, she looks very young indeed.

MvK decides to have them both on the investigation, lawl. Badd hates it, but he can't exactly refuse.

We'll be getting more deets from Det. Badd next time! See you then!

AAI1-4: Turnabout Reminiscence

Chibi!Franziska insists that the investigation be a competition to see who deserves to carry on the von Karma name. Badd and Gumshoe proceed to treat both Miles and Franziska as small children. This was too funny.

The air is electric - Franziska is rooted to the spot next to the pile of bodies while we wander around the room and poke at the various items therein. Gumshoe marvels over the size of the TV, we note that the items on the table [a tea set, some plastic bags] are neatly undisturbed.

It's time for me to scoot the terrifying tot aside and investigate the bodies for myself. As Miles Edgeworth says, "I won't rest until I've inspected every suspicious-looking nook and cranny." Which is particularly troubling when we're talking about dead, human bodies.

PS - picked up an old Sub-Mariner comic from 1976 (Death is the Symbionic Man!, Vol. 1) from my local comic shop and it was pretty entertaining. Nearly forgot how much of an appealing anti-hero the guy was. The real epitome of 'I don't care who started it, I'll finish it'.

AAI1-4: Turnabout Reminiscence

We examine the bodies - Faraday's holding a gun, Rell's holding a knife, there are plastic evidence bags strewn about underneath them [one of which is quite bloodied]. There's a black ink stain on Faraday's left hand.

Badd gives permission at our request, and Gumshoe moves the bodies face-up so we can examine them in greater detail. Gumshoe is too cute, he feels bad about moving the bodies, and he's imagining being killed in extreme detail as we poke around.

Rell's gunshot wound in the chest doesn't have any burn marks, so it must have been at a distance. Faraday's pocket contains a fountain pen. Ngl Faraday is pretty attractive. I usually prefer hair on men to be either much longer or shorter than his, but it's attractively cut.

Gumshoe tells you that Rell has been in for theft and assault multiple times, aside from killing Deid Mann from the Cohdopian embassy.

We've picked up a few details. Let's try Logic next time. See you then!
