I would argue the same thing about chicken.

I would not usually pick it, but the dark meat is pretty tasty every once in a while

Mine was plenty moist and tasty. Which surprised me because the oven bag burst at some point and the juice all spilled out into the pan.

Also there was ham too.

Yum.

Annual rebuttal: It doesn't have to be dry.

Case in point: The turkey I ate today.

The turkey being smaller seems to make it taste significantly better btw.

Still an inferior meat.

I don't really like turkey but I still get one anyways because making stuffing to put into the turkey is absolutely delicious.

Honestly I enjoy turkey sandwiches as leftovers if I must eat it.

Yeah thats the thing, we have to throw all this shit onto the turkey because it just isn't good enough to stand on its own.

There is almost no food that you don't have to season.

Also never put stuffing in turkey. Always make it separate. If you want the turkey juices in it pour some of the drippings in after you cook the turkey. Otherwise you are risking illness.

And again, it should be spatchcocked anyway so you shouldn't have anything to put it in in the first place.

Got to have something you'd prefer on the menu though at least.

I'm particularly fond of the various BBQ we end up having on like the 4th of July or whatever.

There are plenty of ways to make steak good that don't involve slathering it up with basically another dish.

I feel like people give you the same advice about turkey each year and you purposefully ignore it so you can make this topic again the following year. Turkey isn't even that hard of a meat to make flavorful/moist; I'd argue it's easier than steak even though it has a longer cooking time. If you don't want to use a deep frying/flavor injector method, you can use a brining method for oven roasting which will work great.

I've had steaks the past 3 thanksgivings, skipped the turkey. If you want to do it then do it, people need to stop acting like it's a law to eat turkey.

That said I'm ok with turkey. I much prefer chicken, but neither has to be dry. It's entirely a temperature thing. Even people who watch for temp forget about carry over cooking, that's probably the main culprit. But if you get that right then you can have a moist white and dark meat.

The problem is turkey just doesn't taste that good. It has a gamey flavor vs chicken's savoriness, and the fibers are so large. The worst part is the super thick skin (yes even after separating and stuffing under it). It's not nearly as satisfying as a crispy roast chicken.

The reason I prefer turkey to chicken in terms of like, a whole roasted bird, is because turkey is more plentiful. With chicken, it's just gone too quickly. By that I mean I favor breast meat and don't really like dark meats as much so when the chicken breast is gone, then I'm left with things I don't like as much and I won't be full yet. With turkey, the breast is more than enough to feed several people and let's you have as much of one type of meat as you desire.

In terms of dark meat, turkey legs are a lot better than chicken legs too.

It's pretty good for meat you can buy @ 99 cents a pound. I'd rather eat dollar turkey than dollar beef >_>

I agree that the dark meat is better, which is why I prefer that on Thanksgiving night, and I use the breast meat for sandwiches and other random dishes over the next few days.

The key for me is to inject the turkey with a butter sauce a couple of times during cooking. I cooked a 22 lb bird yesterday that was very juicy.

See this argument I can get behind. It is better to feed a lot of people cheaply than feed a lot of people cheap food.

But if you aren't hurtting for money why do we celebrate by eating like we are poor?
