I think the government is in a lose-lose situation
if they go all out and use all the draconian measures they need to to mitigate the effect of the virus, people will bitch and moan and say we're in a dictatorship and that it's too far and protest and yada yada.

If they ease up and let things run it's course and allow it to fester then theyll be blamed for not doing enough and causing the deaths of millions.

Damned if they do damned if they don't really.

to be fair, that trash fire has been burning since the 80's. the state has been functionally insolvent in all but name since the 90's. its just a matter of who shows up with the gas can at this point.

and remember, random citizens in CT were trying to cut down trees across major highways into CT to stop people from coming in.

not realizing that was also going to stop milk, toilet paper and spaghettios from coming in too...

CT is not terribly bright as a state.

I think mandatory masks and insane fines for violations would be a better starting point. If that fails, then people had their chance. Publicly shame the worst caught violators (hosting big parties, Karen rants at stores, etc) on the news and lock it down.
