The first time is fun. Then theres a whole huge management element added to it and it becomes confusing because theres not much direction given.

Managing your team is not difficult. The main issue is that teams don't scale with you, so it doesn't take long to outclass all use other teams, even if you just roll with the Aurochs.

they try to but it's made more boring by the fact that a lot of default free agents (wedge, brother, ropp, definitely more i'm not thinking of) are way better at levels 0-30 than most signed players - at levels like, 80-90 which nobody will ever play at it's kind of more balanced but, of course, by that time you know the brother trick anyway soooo

It certainly is difficult to go back to old jRPGs in general now that questlogs are so standardized.

Plus quest logs can suck too. It's much more rewarding to discover a secret or reward when you don't know it's gonna happen.

You don't really need a quest log just as long as actually important things aren't permanently missable. In this regard FFX isn't that bad.

Being locked out of a good ending for FFX-2 or passing right by vital backstory in Tales of the Abyss because you didn't scour every inch of the game you'd already been to after every single plot development like a psychopath is the worst kind of bullshit and gaming is better off without it.

Abyss is easily a top 5 game for me, but the absurd degree to which it not only hid vital details and scenes contributing to its greatness behind missable quests, but did so with quests that, frankly, no human being on earth would EVERY do without a guide (IIRC there is more than one occasion where you have to walk between areas across half the world map with absolutely no prompting or hints at a very specific time nor any fast travel) is just....so upsetting.

I'd get if it were just for bullshit costumes or broken items, but were talking critical character growth and revelations. You can miss ALL the Largo stuff, for God's sake.

Yeah, FFX doesn't have a ton of post-game content, although it can be frustrating and time-consuming. Plus, you can equip No Encounters gear to expedite the process.

The only FF where it's fun to do postgame and get 100% is FF7R

This reminds me of seeing someone complain about Ocarina of Time because of how they got lost all too often and were unsure of where to go. And like... there's definitely some level of insults that can be thrown that way.

To finish? Nah. I only ever kinda got stuck in two places, and one was me being stupid. The other was the water temple, which I eventually worked my way through.

And point-and-click adventures can be fine, depending on who designs them. Old school Sierra games, yeah, those are BS.

blitzball does suck at first if you fail to collect the jecht shot, as i did on my first playthrough (i thought i was supposed to wait for the speech bubbles like in the tutorial!)

once you get into the actual sim/management portions and start winning it's satisfying enough

I like Blitzball well enough but for Wakka's ultimate you need to play way too many games and it just drains the fun out of it imo.

I just play one or two games at every save point, and it keeps me from getting burned out on it. You'll have played enough games to get Wakka's Celestial Weapon doing it that way, too.

It doesnt do this, but it does suck when stuff gets locked behind the Dark Aeons if you dont complete everything the first time.
