This title doesn't make sense to me, either. Usually, you would call a collection of objects belonging to the same group a series of [so-and-so]. It would have made more sense to call it the system and its possible subsequent remodels the "X-box X Series", really.

I heard a rumor that online play will no longer be a cost on xbox next gen, so that could be a boon for them if true. If they get rid of paying to play online and do full bc with all Xbox games both physical and digital, I think they'd have a very strong console that'd just need some all important exclusives.

I completely agree that MS has shit the bed with their console naming. Xbox is a fine name, it's easy to remember and catchy enough. 360 was good enough for its time, but it kind of painted them into a corner and the names have only gotten worse. I think if they simply tweaked the series x to series 4 and then continued that naming scheme they'd be fine.

I mean you can make observations and studies without being obsessed or defining your identity by it. And market trends do have a real impact.

For me personally sure I've always prefer PS since PS 1. I've owned many other consoles though and each have their own merits when it comes to software. Software is what I care about the most. If you want a rank on consoles for me it's:

PS > Nintendo > Xbox

I would normally hold off for 2 or 3 years before getting the new console, but if Ratchet and Spider-Man are both launch titles, that will be awful tempting

That rumor isn't gonna happen though. They make so much money from their subscription services.

And it looks like they won't have important exclusives for the first couple years imo. Even Halo got delayed until sometime next year.

I think Sony would have to endorse pedophilia, or something equally awful, on a live stream for Microsoft to have any kind of chance.
There's no brand loyalty among XBox fans.

Prob for xbox is that they basically cut their own throat by releasing almost everything on PC as well, at least almost everything worth playing. There isn't even 1 game on xbox one that I can't play on PC that i'm interested in at all.

PS4 (and now 5) will have exclusives I can't play on my pc, but to be honest, I'll probably hold off alot longer this time because I have waaay to many games in my backlog and I pretty much only turn my ps4 on to play beat saber.

I got a ps4 in fact for freaking Kingdom Hearts 3...which took forever to come out after it released, and then I never even got halfway through it. I didn't even barely start FFXV, have not played Spiderman etc. I have a ton of PS4 exclusives I have not touched.

I'll wait for a good sale/deal on a ps5 unless something insanely good comes out that I can't play (I also have the Ps4 Ratchet and clank I have not played....and I loved those games).

I think they have to move away from hyper-realism and focus more on making games that are fun again. Or at least put the emphasis on that.

And work on games that use a font larger than pt.2! Even on mega 800" TVs these are tough to read sometimes.

Higher render rates do this. With more power means more calculations per frame which means cleaner free physics and so less glitchy unstructured games.

They'd still have their other sub stuff in what I heard, they'd just be getting rid of the needing a premium account for online play part. Who knows though, we'll see later this year when shit actually comes out. It could be a good move for them and it'd make for nice symmetry if they killed a trend they themselves started.

I'm not getting any launch console, unless someone surprises me with one as a gift out of the blue.

Sure, no, but the possibility exists now, since they set a precedent. Though, I think MS stated somewhere that they didn't want to do that again, no idea about Sony.
