I literally saw MacD try to hit on PPMD's little brother Twitch in a hotel room first hand. He was clearly uncomfortable as fuck so I started berating him until he left Twitch alone. Proud of that one. But yeah, MacD has been known to be a scumbag by the community at large for a long time. Not sure about that news journalist stuff but MacD being a predator is definitely nothing new. Not sure how anyone could lose their jobs for telling anyone about that

There's a difference between knowing someone is a scumbag - which communities frequently accept and normalize of people - and being confronted and told to do something about it. Communities don't like the latter, and especially not gaming communities.

So why the new account and name? Well, when I helped a player come out about their own sexual assault my career in esports was destroyed. Couldn't get a contract to write for any outlets (lost a job I was going for with ESPN even) and basically everything in competitive gaming shriveled up for me. I was "cancelled" for doing the right thing, and folks hero worshiping made that possible.

Hey, notice some of the names in this article about that? Some of the same people with accusations today. If you think it's a coincidence those people spoke out against me, you've might need to reexamine your thought process a bit.

It needs a major shake up. Its members need to feel shame for being part of it, so they are forced to start behaving little civilized adults instead of the disgusting goblins that many of them are.

They might be as prone, yes, but this is why taking a look at the circumstances are important rather than generalizing it as 'gaming community'. It's way too rash to say that gaming is the red thread.

Many (if not most) of these cases started because there was physical interaction, which sets single-player gaming communities apart since there are way less events held for them.

If/when offline events are being held again, the committee and the community at large should do better to promote awareness against predatory sexual behaviors, especially to younger gamers.

Nope, because I did not imply that there is no sexual abuse outside of gaming community. What I implied is that gaming community is likely to have more sexual abuse, or that gaming community has a specific cause for sexual abuse that needs to be solved separately: incel culture.

Yeah, that's my issue with it. It feels like it implies that the majority of gamers exhibit these traits, when it's actually an extreme minority. Imagine the number of people who play Smash, then imagine the number that play it competitively, then imagine the actual number of offenders. That's for this particular case here, of course, as an example. The number is very small on the end compared to the number on the beginning of that equation. It's like when are you considered a "gamer" proper?

It just feels like those idiots from the 90's with video game violence. It's a dangerous opinion to have and makes you look uninformed.

I couldn't care less about competitive gaming communities. They are a cancer and this kind of destruction will be good for them in the long run.

While there are a bunch of really sketchy stories coming out (like the 24 year old sleeping with a 14 year old that looks 10), a lot of these cases are consensual in cases above or only slightly below age of consent.

It's really weird how a lot of people are piling on to these "#MeToo" dumps with situations that aren't under any definition sexual assault. It really distracts from the actual cases, and I can't imagine what real victims feel about people trying to latch onto the movement to get more Twitch subs or whatever.

Again, stories like this run the risk of an oppressive government possibly limiting what you can buy because "video games cause violence" or "video games cause rape".
