He is (was) easily the most marketable Smash Ultimate guy. Streams, videos, ect. all have the best numbers. Has the best sponsorships and connections. Think he's the only one that Nintendo themselves made a video highlighting.

Apparently zack was only 15 during his thing with Nairo, so I think nairo could be prosecuted for statutory rape. When he was with Ally he was 16, so Ally is safe, and I guess that's why nothing ever happened with that beyond the community ban. It's ultimately up to the victim to press charges anyway I think, so it might be pretty random who sees actual consequences? But I'm not a lawyer so who knows.

she was 24 but that doesn't change anything about the situation. obviously predatory behavior.

but in nairo's case it doesn't really matter whether he was "approached" or not since Zack was 15 and Nairo was in his 20s. It's Nairo's responsibility as an adult to not have sex with a 15 year old. full stop. no excuses.

I'd have to be VERY generous to make that interpretation of these words. This phrase in particular is completely irrelevant and only serves to absolve Nairo of agency and intent. He was the adult in this scenario; it is his responsibility entirely.

The argument that pjbasis presumably is trying to make is that the situations are different because Cinnpie should have a grooming charge as well. It's incredibly important to be intentional with your wording in situations like this.

What did you think the smash in Smash Bros meant? Joking aside pretty terrible stuff to read about since people being abused is never ok. The few experiences I read in here sounded really bad and I hope they can find some sense of peace and justice out of this.

I'm going to double down on my thoughts from last night in hoping that parents pay attention to this. If their minor children are allowed to attend these tournaments unsupervised, there's a chance they'll also find themselves in the adjacent hotels and afterparties, which seems to be where a majority of these stories take place.

People are perverts. Protect your kids.

Yeah, I wouldn't trust my child to be at some fighting game events with people who are mostly older than them, somewhere unsupervised.

I thought about it a bit and it's not like letting your child hang out with kids their age at a party that ends up having drugs at it or something. And it's not like letting your kids hang out at, say, a game shop where there's an employer and plenty of people of various ages there.

I remember that Kane Blue River (I think that was his name?) attended a lot of MvC3 tournaments, but his parents were always there. I can't see letting my kids go there alone or unless someone is there to keep a close eye on them that I trust a lot at the very least.

Gotta think Dota is bigger than Smash, and even though I'm not into Dota at all I still know the name. The only comparably big name I know of mixed up in anything here is Joe Miller, who had stuff come out from 2014ish when he was still in the League of Legends scene. The only name I recognized off KP's list above is Nairo.

*Disclaimer: I'm quite well insulated from the inner workings of pretty much any competitive gaming community, so there's a lot going on here that I don't know.

I'm focusing on Smash because its the one I know most but yeah lots of big names across different communities getting named
