They might call you first to ask you to put in more money immediately or else they close your trade. But if they can't reach you immediately they just close it. And yeah, if it opens at $15 you now owe them money. So supposing you have a $1,000 investment at $5:

$0: +$1,000
$5: +$0
$10: -$1,000
$15: -$2000
$20: -$3,000

Etc. There was a case a few years back where someone shorted stock of a bankrupt company with his life savings of 37k. Overnight the company announced that it had been acquired by a new investor. The stock opened at a big gain and the guy lost his 37k and was now 100k in debt to his broker.

Hot damn.

Well I'm sad I missed the FOMO buying and had to go to work, but don't worry, I didn't take any position on HTZ to buy or short.

Just stopping by to thank this topic for getting me into stocks. While I don't do the crazy day trading a lot of you are because of this topic i threw money at the cruise lines just after the bailout said they were not getting any money. Basically turned 15k into 50k over 2 months because of it. Keep it up everyone.

Im glad! That is the purpose of these topics. Cumulatively, I wonder what these topics have gained everyone. It has to be at least $150k.

I also want to throw out a huge thank you. I make $15.22 an hour. 10k is basically the most I've ever had saved up at any point in my life and I've already turned it into 30k now. It's pretty unreal. I got into trading stocks at the perfect time.

Now what? It was super easy to do everything at that time. Every stock was a dip, you could throw money at a target and hit stocks that would rise. But now a lot of things are recovering, many are all all time highs. Where do I go from here?

Try and get in on stuff that haven't fully recovered like financials or airlines? Keep on just putting more into blue chip stocks? Try to find the next GNUS or NKLA before it soars?

It's interesting. I've been following the stock market every morning (since I'm laid off lol) and have no clue where to go from here. Or when to start selling stuff.

Once things start settling down. I'll keep my blue chip stocks, keep some money for the occasional day trade, but go back to putting everything into low cost funds like VTSAX.

I do a bit of everything.

So I have stuff like HPR because energy isn't recovered and will recover WITH airlines, cruises, and normal travel resuming and is a bit underrated of a position.

For the money I need to be OK I have AAL right now. I am betting my savings it won't lose money in the next 12 months total, so yeah.

Stuff like Disney or Amazon etc are very safe stocks that will year to year tend to rise.

I'm not switching to passive ETFs. Picking stocks is too much fun. Can I do better than an SPY index fund in the long run? It's supposed to be super hard, and maybe I won't, but I don't care.

So last night got crazy high and then everything pulled back, which makes a bit of sense. Although I feel like some of these are an over correction.

I don't understand why stock prices change all night and morning, but I'm not allowed to buy anything until 9:30am EST.

My understanding is that some select people / businesses are able to trade real-time throughout the night. I dont know how this privilege is gained. I agree that it is not fair.

Most platforms allow you to trade up until 6:30pm. Some allow you to trade from 7:30am too. Beyond those extended hours, I dont know how some can trade between 6:30pm and 7:30am.

It's pretty unfair yeah. That and high frequency trading algorithms are both very unfair.

On Ameritrade, you can select Day + EXT (on the expiration tab) when buying or selling to trade under extended hours. Ameritrade's extended hours are from 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. and best of all there's no additional fee for doing so.

But yeah uhhh all my stocks are down except AVCT this morning. And I mean way down. Like...$1700 less combined from where they were last night :( Wanted to sell a bunch and make some big plays too but may first wait for a bounce back.

I reckon Ameritrade is one of the best ones. It at least gives you more real-time updates (flash drops) than the other platforms.

Looks like stocks are going to open down today. I'm going to buy some TLRD, COTY, and UBER.

I may also buy back some DAL, which is really sad because I sold those shares at $25 a week and a half ago for a small profit and now I'm considering buying them back at $34. If not for LK tripling last week I think I would be really upset about missing out on about half the gain in CAR and DAL. Especially DAL, because I didn't buy at the bottom, so what I missed was way bigger than the profit I made. With CAR, I can't get too upset about exiting a trade at a 93% profit.

I got it at $1.57. Set a stop at $1.61, learning my lesson from yesterday. It went up to $1.72 before plummeting. Sold at $1.61. Ill get back in maybe.
