Hypnotically sure. My brother is a gambling addict and I've lent him money in the past. He paid it back though so that's fine. If however he started to not do that then I'd be less inclined to help him out.

My dad bounced when I was an infant. Dude can take a long walk off a short pier if he ever crawls out from whatever rock he disappeared under to hit me up for cash.

Sure. He's loaned me money when I needed it before. And I'm really close with my family, so I don't mind helping them out when I can... And my family always pays me back when they borrow money, as do I.

If my stepdad asked, I'd need to know what for, and how quickly he intended to pay me back.

If my father asked, I'd have so many questions, not the least of which would be how he's even asking since he's been dead for 21 and a half years.

My dad left when I was 2 and my mom blamed all her mental problems on him, so for most of my life I would probably have killed him if he showed up. Eventually I realized she made alot of crap up, but he still never tried to find us/take care of us. I wouldn't lone him money, but I wouldn't mind meeting him and hearing his side of the story.

Did you try to find him?

There's a lot of ways that story could go, and I could easily see any number of reasons why he might have made no effort to try and find you. It's entirely possible he was convinced you were better off without him in your life. Or if you have no idea where he is now, it's possible he might have wanted to be more of a part of your life, but something happened to him (up to and including death) that made it generally impossible.

I did but there are just too many people with the same name (and last name especially in england) I tried to track down his side of the family in Kirkham England (multiple times over the years). I always planned on visiting there and just seeing if I could find someone I resemble (Cause I look like him). I tracked down an uncle named David to a resteraunt he worked at like 20 years ago, but they had no contact info on him and I lost the trail there.

I've finally given up, he would be like 70+ by now if he is alive (and supposedly he was in and out of jail etc, so that isn't very likely), and the relatives in England (his mother), would be 90+...so is almost certainly dead.

I'm not that healthy anymore myself so travel is probably not going to happen at this point. Oh well, I needed a father when I was a kid, not now anyway. Just wouldhave been nice to get his side and especially to get to know my relatives in England. I would probably have moved there if I could ever have found them.

I try not to. If it's something that's needed, sure. But mostly it's not, and it goes case by case as to whether it's even safe to refuse. If things start looking dicey, I'll go ahead.

My dad's dead, so that's a moot point. I have loaned money to my mother, though, under pretty much no expectation of her repaying me (despite the fact that she fully intends to) because she's done enough for me that I don't feel like she should feel indebted.

Right now, I don't really have the spare cash needed to give her another such loan, but if I did (my general philosophy with loaning money is to not do so unless I'll be okay never seeing it again), I'd certainly be willing to. The fact that she hasn't paid me back for the rest yet is a point against her, obviously, and for other people that would probably be enough to discourage me from giving them any more, but again, she's done more than enough for me and I'm perfectly fine with giving a little back here and there.

I honestly can't imagine a situation where he needs to borrow money from me. He has always been far better off financially than I've ever been. He has better credit than me, and makes more on disability than I usually do working.

Even when he got his ass kicked by the 2008 real estate market crash, lost his business and million dollar water-front house he still had enough savings to move out of state and outright buy a house in a much cheaper area. I can't afford a house.
