So perhaps that is why I take issue when the government and ivory tower technocrats point their fingers at 20 million people, declare them "unessential" and forbid them from making a living.

You are unessential in a global crisis. You don't get to live your life as you want so that hundreds of thousands of people dont have to die.

Suck it up and stop being a baby.

TBH there's something to the not joining a sinking ship theory.

the ship wasn't sinking yet when warren could have endorsed bernie, though.

(that being said, we shouldn't have expected her to endorse bernie. she refused to endorse him in '16, why would she do it now?)

After Super Tuesday Biden was the very heavy favorite, and then Bloomberg dropped out and endorsed Biden. Even if she would have endorsed Bernie after dropping out he still very likely would have lost.

It would probably be him, yeah. But I don't agree he'd necessarily be worse. I dislike Pete as a person but he at least wants major electoral and governmental reforms (or should I say, wanted, before the focus testing set in). His Supreme Court idea was pretty stupid but it shows he at least understands the problem. Biden is very much of the mindset that there is nothing wrong with our system of government, which would be hilarious if it wasn't so frustrating. And I think Pete would be bullied into policy by the progressive wing just as much as Biden has been, so eh.

Of course, I think Pete's chances of winning the general election would be even lower than Biden's, so there's that.

If Biden names Liz to his cabinet she will get nothing good done. Why? Because moderate Democrats excel at taking good policies and loading them up with changes and limitations until they are awful policies. They are so fundamentally broken that they cannot be changed from inside. They need to be attacked from outside.

also I think Ive figured out why she didnt endorse anyone.

She expected Bernie to stay in until the very end, and on the off chance of a contested convention she was going to try to step up as the compromise candidate.

Then COVID hit, and Bernie suspended his campaign because he was convinced dragging it out would just cause more spread.

That Maddow interview where she instantly said yes to the chance at being VP convinced me. She knows Joe wont go the distance even if hes elected, and shes made that calculation that its her new path.

You're actually proving my point. I never said Warren did nothing wrong. The only way you can get that out of my post there is if "not dropping out and endorsing Sanders" is a "wrong." ...Which is exactly the kind of thing my post was addressing.

Warren obviously did things wrong. Whether it's things further back like the DNA test or later in the primary where I think she successfully let herself be baited into providing answers into "how do you pay for this" that the media wanted rather than primary voters and in having to contort her plan to avoid media "gotchas" like "omfg ur raising taxes (but we won't mention that actual costs are going down because the rise in taxes is more than covered by the savings in healthcare costs)" she came out with a plan that was open to criticism from all sides because the centrist attack on it was never honest from these quarters (not that there are not honest avenues to criticize from that direction, but the media and the centrist candidates were never using those) and the left because it ended up in a bit of a tortured plan. Sanders, by contrast, did better in facing this issue. I'd argue they never went as hard and persistent on him as they did Warren, but that's a separate issue and they both had to play the hands they were dealt there and Sanders played it better full stop.

Hey at least youre admitting now she stayed in to help the establishment.

The establishment was going to win no matter what she did. She hoped otherwise, obviously. That's why she stayed in. But dropping out and supporting Bernie, while it would have looked very good, wouldn't have accomplished much except upsetting the establishment. She was pragmatic in withholding her endorsement.

I understand not liking the pragmatism, but in our political system it's the difference between getting something done, even if its imperfect (Obamacare) and getting nothing done.

One day hopefully we'll move past the imperfect Obamacare. I'm sure whatever it is, will also be imperfect. Then maybe candidates like Bernie Sanders won't seem so out there, while candidates like Paul Ryan will look like lunatics for wanting to change a system that Works.

The fact is, Obamacare is what it is in large part because a few blue dog democrats couldn't go along with his original and better plan. All it takes to stop a good effort, are a few who refuse to do the right thing. And that's rather unfortunate in our system.

Not endorsing Sanders was a wrong! Either she helped Bernie maintain his momentum and continue progressive causes, or he lost anyway but she kept herself a relevant figure worth earning.

Except to the Maddows of the world, her star seemed to pretty much fizzle out when she took her ball and went home. I have yet to see a single argument that she made the correct play.

Weather you think Warren was in the wrong or not, the impact it had on the perception of her is a fact. There are just too many people who have turned on her now for her presence on a ticket or as as an addition to do anything but result in a net negative in regards to pulling in support. She's going to be a black sheep of the progressives for a while at least.
