As far as I can tell, the only reason Republicans are even stressing the economy so much is because this is an election year and the biggest reason for Trump's rising approval rating is the strong economy. Therefore he doesn't want to look bad in an election year and is trying to do everything in his power to throw responsibility off of him. Unbelievable that people could actually get killed over political games (due to them impeding pandemic response).

In a just world this would convince people that Trump doesn't actually care about the people. He only cares about making himself look good. His campaign was made around making lots of little promises he knew people would like without any sort of big picture ideas. But no, Americans are stupid.

Very few people have the ability to reduce their risk of contracting covid to near zero in the scenario that its allowed to overrun society. Even if you could work from home, the minimal necessary tasks of getting food etc would be very dangerous.

I didn't say they can reduce their risk to zero. I said they could take measures to protect themselves. An infant in the womb is not able to take any measures. They can't even contact the ACLU to ask them to file a lawsuit on their behalf. So they need the government.

I'd say it's more likely to be in response to the Democrats rejecting Bernie once again. Look at the timing! Biden crushes Super Tuesday and within 2 weeks the country is shutting down.

Also, remember in 2016 the Democrats rejected Bernie and were punished for it just a few months later when Trump was elected.

That was announced on Jan. 31st and was not at all a sufficient response. It very well could have been an important component of a response that had included a serious effort to develop and widely distribute reliable tests and ramp up production of PPE, but that didn't happen despite the obvious need. The fact that it didn't happen is what made us get to this point.

TBH there's something to the not joining a sinking ship theory. In which case Warren should not be joining Team Biden. Either join the winning ship (the Republicans) or wait it out so you have credibility in 2024.

Wow so much disingenuousness and straight-up gaslighting from Inviso in the previous topic that I can't even begin to tackle it.

This is the only issue I'll touch, since it's a pretty silly direct personal attack on me:

for the first time in their privileged lives, they're experiencing (a VERY minimal) level of hardship

I grew up in poverty, earned a scholarship to an Ivy League university (first in my family to go to college, dad dropped out of high school when he was 15), then worked my way into a very good living that allows me to now support my parents when they need it.

So perhaps that is why I take issue when the government and ivory tower technocrats point their fingers at 20 million people, declare them "unessential" and forbid them from making a living.

But you do you, man. If it makes you feel better to imagine me in a different way, go right ahead.
