It's just that arguing the "Moderate Voltron" is basically saying Bernie couldn't win unless, specifically, there were people in the race the entire time to steal votes from Biden, which I don't think is wholly accurate, nor does it do much for the Bernie side of the argument.

I'm not on the Bernie side of the argument, really. Nor am I casting judgment on the Voltron move, it was actually really smart of them.

But if the Voltron doesn't happen and Bernie carries the momentum into this pandemic I think he's the easy nominee.

Biden won because Clyburn had the Play of the Game with his endorsement. Which is also the answer to "What did Biden do?" because he actually pursued that endorsement.

but also yes because the Sanders strategy was pretty reliant on the Dems being unable to get their shit together in time to stop a 35%ish vote share from building an insurmountable delegate lead. Which, to be fair, is a strategy Trump managed to pull off in 2016 - albeit with some help from WTA rules in addition to their general incompetence. And one that looked for a moment like it might actually work.

It also helped that the guy who finished second (Cruz) was ALSO hated by the establishment. Hence why I doubt Establishment Voltron would have defeated Trump.

Basically 2016 had conservatives absolutely furious at losing twice to Obama and they wanted anyone but the establishment.

If you wanna talk about good things (for Dems) to come from the coronavirus, it has taken Trumps economy from him.

Now they need to make the argument that they could have done this better.

Most likely, theyre going to go with the Trump cost lives route, which as we know from W and Obamas re-election, people actually dont care about.

Deaths are always the lagging stat too.
If you want horror for how that potentially looks:

First, look at the number of resolved cases.
Then look at deaths.

Aim for a better percentage.
The one in the US is really bad, most other countries are significantly better.

according to wikipedia, the number of officially confirmed deaths is about 3600. maybe 12k was an estimate of the actual number.
