https://www.sbsun.com/2020/04/07/s-b-county-residents-must-wear-masks-in-public-have-virtual-religious-services-to-slow-coronavirus/amp/

San Bernardino County in California has now made it a crime to not wear a face covering when anywhere outside of your home.

Face coverings must be ones that secure to the ears or back of the head and covers the mouth and nose. Homemade cloth ear loop covers, bandanas and handkerchiefs, and neck gaiters may be used, said county officials, but surgical masks and N95 masks must not be used as they are to be saved for health care works and emergency responders.

Failure to comply can result in a fine of $1000 per day and/or up to 90 days jail time.

There was no warning period provided and as such the measure requires immediate compliance.

My thoughts exactly. I had to go to 3 different stores before finding one and literally got the last bandanas off the shelf for my household but the whole time I thought it crazy that Id effectively be able to be jailed because everywhere was all sold out.

The measure being mandated is being used by the government not to actually stop the virus but to be used as a visual reminder of social distancing. The cloth protection being required is not able to stop the virus, as only the masks being explicitly excluded and reserved for medical personnel is designed and capable to do just that.

Hold up, the paragraphs you copied here aren't in that order in the article...
The countys Acting Health Officer on Tuesday, April 7, formally ordered everyone in the county to wear a face covering when leaving home to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
County public health officials are also ordering that all religious services be done electronically, including upcoming Easter celebrations. Residents are being told to stay home and not participate in driving parades or drive-up services or to pick up non-essential items such as pre-packaged Easter eggs or bags of candy or toys at drive-thru locations.
Violation of the orders is a crime punishable by up to a $1,000 fine or imprisonment up to 90 days, or both.

To me in sounds like violating any of the SIP orders leads to the punishment, not solely the face mask one?

Either way, I do think the fines are excessive on the face of it, but that's part of the point: they're ridiculously punitive to discourage people from taking the risk of going outside for unnecessary gatherings in the first place. It will make some people think twice, and I'm sure others will think, "there's no way they'd actually fine me for this shit." Who's to say how many it will affect?

I didnt copy the whole article, only the parts about the face mask. Thats why I provided the link.

Yes violating any provisions of the order is subject to fines and/or jail time, but the most ridiculous part of the order is the penalties for not wearing a covering they they ADMIT is solely for aesthetics to remind people to stay away and doesnt actually improve your chances not to contract the virus.

It's funny because when this first broke out I was making fun of people for wearing masks because the WHO told people they didn't help.

Now I don't want anyone within 6 feet of me without a mask on. Just eat your pride and stop being that guy. The government did a 180. The only experts telling you masks don't help are probably trying to prevent a mask shortage, which doesn't really matter if you're making your own.

Another flaw with the order being immediate. If you dont have the proper covering you have to violate the order in order to go out to obtain the proper covering. Circular logic at its best.

Actually the masks, even cloth, do help. They won't stop you from contracting the virus, but it reduces how far the virus will spread from you breathing out, which means it's less likely you will infect others (especially if they stay 6 feet away or more).

Without masks they say it's at least 21 feet away that you can actually infect someone else. With the mask, it reduces how far the virus will reach from where you are breathing, and coughing etc will go mainly into the mask.

It's not perfect, but it would help, and it's crazy at this point not to wear one.

Still the real problem is that so many people are having to go to speciffc places, to get food, to vote, to get money from banks, to get perscriptions from pharmacies etc.

There is no way to avoid doing that, so many people are going to be in close proximity to others who have the virus (even if they don't know it), which is going to continue to spread it.

That needs to be dealt with soon. What happened with the voting today was insane.

I agree. My job just told us we'll have to start wearing mask. I was telling my co-worker they would have to supply us with them, then. And one co-worker even started asking who was going to give us the mask. Because none of us have any. And the store surely won't. The dooms day preppers probably bought them all, as well...

One has to acquire food. So yes they do.

If we're learning anything from self-quarantine, there are plenty of ways to have food and other goods delivered directly to your house, and it's possible to work from home, so in theory you could spend the next 20+ years never once leaving your house and survive just fine.

Also, the converse there is that, in some states in the US, if you don't own a car, you won't be acquiring food. Because you won't have any means of getting to a store, nor money to spend there even if you could because you won't be able to hold down a job.

If I lost all my vehicles today and couldn't replace them, I'd more or less be dead by the end of the month.

I'm not quoting a source so look it up if you care, but yeah, supposedly it's most communicable through the air, not through touching stuff and then touching your face etc. That is the reason for the initial 6 feet apart and now a longer distance etc. In theory you can get the virus simply by walking into an area someone who had the virus was in, within 15 minutes or so. You don't have to touch squat, and no, the mask won't even stop you from getting it in that case, but....it will prevent YOU from spreading it as easily (your breathe doesn't travel as far etc).

Video below is what I'm basing my post off of. He states that you cant catch it through airborne paths (or its extremely difficult for that to happen).

Long video, but the first 30 minutes have great advice on how to prevent the spread of the virus. I would recommend watching and sharing with family and friends.
