It is a bad thing to fine someone $1000 per day or put them in jail for not wearing a mask that they cant necessarily get ahold of because of the instant massive demand that was caused by making people panic when they were threatened with a $1000 fine or jail time for not wearing a mask! If the government mailed every citizen a bandana and said wear this or we will fine you at least they will have provided everyone with the mask so they all have an equal opportunity to be in possession of it, but as it is there are going to be some who are literally unable to comply through no fault of their own and there is the possibility that they will be punished for it and that is wrong!

People just need to cover their face. They can use just about anything

Driving is not a right, but a privilege, and as such you agree to abide by certain restrictions when you drive. However going outside is not a privilege yet its being restricted as such. Some people cannot even stay inside because they literally live outside meaning they will have to abide by this restriction at all times.

In any case the government should be providing the necessities required to abide by such a restriction if they are going to attempt to enforce it. Yet they do not and still expect it to be enforced.

It's primarily respiratory failure. Young healthy people who do not smoke have had their lungs wrecked by the virus even if they recover if they have worse than mild symptoms. Lungs typically fill up with fluid etc.

Heart attacks on previously healthy people have happened though.

It also probably won't fly in court if they started being that strict about it immediately. It should be paired with instructions on making homemade coverings and resources for people that aren't able to access the materials for homemade ones (which isn't actually that many people, even among the homeless), but even so, expecting people to immediately start wearing masks they don't have and can't buy is not reasonable enough to stand up in court. The ACLU exists for precisely that reason.

That said, it's not a requirement that everyone wear one of those coveted N95 masks that are completely unavailable. It's a requirement that everyone attach an old t-shirt or a couple coffee filters to their face, which is significantly more accessible than you're making it out to be. People exist who legitimately can't spare those resources, yes, and they should be supported by providing them with those resources, but they're a very tiny minority who probably won't end up prosecuted anyway (again, because demanding that they fulfill a requirement they physically cannot fulfill isn't reasonable enough to stand up in court).

If you're really that concerned about the horrible injustice of it all, when you're making your mask, make a dozen or two extra (again, these resources are far from inaccessible, so I'm fairly certain you can afford it) and go hand them out to some of the homeless people you're so worried about. It won't completely solve the issue, but you'll actually be helping (both to protect them from potential fines and - more importantly - to slow the spread of the disease) instead of impotently whining on the Internet.

Something tells me you'd be surprised how many people can't launder with that amount of regularity, not even counting the homeless.

Washing them in the sink with dish soap is generally all you need. You don't need to run a proper laundry load every time your mask gets dirty. That's pretty accessible for anyone that does dishes, which again means it's basically just the homeless that are out of luck.
