So my mother does work with taxes and her company set her and the others up to work from home, but they needed the okay from the PA governor because they deal with sensitive documents and can't have them from home, and they haven't even been told they are an essential business so they can still go to work.

So they rounded them all up and told them because they haven't heard back in a week that they don't have work for them, but they're not laying them off because they might hear back from the governor eventually, so they can't collect unemployment. And they were told that they could just use their PTO if they wanted.

This is a mess and it's disgraceful that there is nothing set in place by our government yet.

Pretty encouraging if the trend is coming back down again. They'd struggled with an uptick recently because another (much smaller) group began super-spreading, but this is nearly 50 fewer than yesterday's report.

oh boy I just checked and ultis talking about martial law and weirdly throwing in an attack at illegal immigrants and the homeless?

The martial law bit is my personal issue with it. But for what it's worth he's not alone in hearing about that, I've heard similar separate of Board 8.

Mr Lasastryke posted...
oh was that what timjab was talking about? ulti has me blocked too so i didn't see it.

Likely getting info from people at similar levels.
I saw it here by Ulti and tim, then checked another chat I'm in and got info from an EMT friend saying something similar AND another cop. Remember: Tim's from NYC, I'm from NYC, EMT and other cop friend are NYC, and Ulti is Jersey. If we're all getting similar info, there's definitely some truth to it but not exactly what's being said. We're also probably getting info from people not that high up.

My understanding is that police are expected to hold more order. Tony mentioned the national guard coming here, same idea there too. But that's not a martial law situation, it's not a nobody can leave for no reason, it's enforce the rules and protect order. There's a notable avoid an uptick in more crime. Examples
https://nypost.com/2020/03/21/coronavirus-cant-kill-nyc-crime-but-might-be-slowing-it-down/

This hasn't been talked about publicly that much, that Post article is just today and highlighting the problem. And then there's one of the worst, most vile scams I've heard being done in both regions: robbers knocking on your door pretending to be the CDC saying they're here to test you for the virus.

Not being hyperbolic when i say i hope all those people get shot. Utterly worthless scum with no positive value whatsoever.

But with this uptick of crime, with the crisis obviously getting worse, there's an expectation of cops taking more control. This doesn't mean you won't be able to leave, nobody actually involved with the planning should be pushing that. Most likely it's a mix of telephone with different interpretations happening: "there's gonna be a lockdown," "we're cracking down on it," "no getting in and out," statements like this being taken at face value as opposed to "this lockdown still allows over 20 essential business types to keep working, doesn't prohibit you from leaving to do what you need to do, and you can still do a little exercise/walk;" "we're cracking down on criminal activity and having a stronger police presence in the field to enforce rules on limited gatherings, meaning more large group parties or BBQ;" "no getting in and out of NY and perhaps certain limited areas without a reason, more critical areas may involve fever checking, and we're basically make checkpoints to limit the spread."

(That last one needs more info but it may well only mean specifically to bridges and a limit on the MTA.)

It's not that they're wrong exactly, it's that they're assuming the most extreme scenarios.

nationwide martial law is just not possible, even if we bring home every single troop from every single branch. it could happen in select areas but honestly even that is unlikely. the national guard coming in to help keep order and distrubute medical and other necessary supplies isn't martial law

I agree. I also value Tim's position and opinion a lot more since he's literally boots on the ground here and I'm sure a lot of cops want more drastic measures to limit crime, especially after seeing PA take the opposite direction. Even though I've got other sources probably at similar levels, I'm not gonna spread the info as much because it would be irresponsible. Not saying ulti is right. Just that I can understand it.

there's just no way for any institution to be prepared for this.

one day you're good, 10 people a day, it sucks but you can work with it.
4-6 days later you've gone up to 20 people a day. still working on the others (40-60) but alright.
4-6 days after that you're tapped out because you're getting 40 a day, even if you magically got rid of the first batch you've still got the 2nd batch to deal with (80-120), and know that in 4-6 more days this batch will still be there and have to deal with those.

the worst multiplier is at the beginning from what we've seen but once people start cracking down and focusing on limiting contact it drastically improves. ...but even as it improves the rate is still a doubling. right now, for the US, we ain't even at the phase to get accurate numbers on what our rate is, we barely got testing. NY is the US case to look at, especially NYC. fortunately Monday is looking to probably be run harder as we already know the stock exchange has the floor closed. that ain't normal.

Not quite; that would be true with no severe mitigation efforts, but we are using those in several states now. I'm fairly confident these lockdowns should bring R0 below 1 (China's ultra-extreme lockdown looks like it brought it down to a little over 0.3, so we just need to be like a third as effective as them), in which case there will be some peak, and if we had started this drastic intervention earlier or prepped extra medical equipment the system may have been able to handle it. It looks quite likely that at least some of them are gonna be overloaded now, though.

Some people aren't gonna take stuff serious until they are in the hospital. We have a population that is built upon division, critical thought, and distrust of the government.

We could release 100 million people have the virus, but until is affects some people, some people aren't going to take it serious even then.

People care more about their freedom to do what they want and their individual thoughts than the greater good a lot.

Let me say this, red. You say people think it is a hoax/overblown because of Trump right? What if on the other hand, people think Trump shouldn't be listened to because Democrats have been saying that Trump is incompetent and NotOurPresident for 3 years also?

I mean, beyond that... we just have a not cohesive population. We really haven't had one since we had a common enemy which brought fear onto us to unite against. People mock 1984 and the eastasia eurasia stuff, but how united have we been besides WW2, the Cold War, and 9/11? WW2 even took Pearl Harbor.

Our population is one that has always been divisive. And, this is why our population is a struggle with events like these where more submissive cultures do better.

So wait. You are leaving your girlfriend alone in quarantine when she is infected and you have the symptoms (but are attributing them to allergies)?

Thus, you yourself are admittedly a possible super spreader by not following the rules you want everyone else to?
