I think it's a disservice to Mahomes's skill set to try to diminish his accomplishments by saying he has amazing talent.

I certainly wasn't trying to diminish anything he's accomplished. I was just saying that the bar for someone who only plays a couple seasons to get into the HoF should be set really high, and the only way to lower it would be if he carried a unit of clearly less talented players.

That said, I think you guys are really underrating how good Hill is along with the rest of that offensive unit. They have speed everywhere, and their o-line was at least good in the passing game this year though they obviously benefit from the guys around them (Mahomes being mobile, and receivers being able to separate quickly).

Yes, Hill is good, but WRs in particular are dependent on having a good QB to make them good. Hill couldn't run some of the routes he does without Mahomes as his QB.

How about this real world example for the hof discussion.

Kurt Warner.

Guy made the superbowl every year he played a full season but that only happened three times and he only won it once. When he was healthy he was one of if not the top qb in the league but again that was basically just three seasons and a couple partial ones.

Wasnt Warner also the only QB other than Pyeton to reach a SB for more than one team? (As the starting QB obviously)
Peyton being the only one to win... so far

Craig Morton was the 1st to do it (Warner and Peyton are #2 and #3 respectively).

Morton started for the Cowboys vs Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl V (1970) and for the Broncos vs Cowboys in Super Bowl XII (1977). He lost both games though. Peyton Manning is indeed the only QB to win the Super Bowl as the starting QB for different teams.

Eli is a "no" but if you wanna put him in for the two rings, I won't argue. Then again, the rings should be their own reward. He killed those Giants teams for the better part of a decade but he also killed the Pats teams for a handful of years, so >_>

Warner is a bit more interesting. 3 amazing years, 2 good ones, but not a ton more I think. In the NFL that's sorta good enough, though! I think there are slightly better players not making the cut recently but I like Warner for the HOF.

That's what I intended yes. But I was surprised when he made it so quickly.

As a guy from Cedar Rapids Iowa who is a broncos fan I'm biased for both Warner and Davis so I'm often curious how others see it.

I know! And he threw it like 50 yards so it really would have been better but the return was about even with the LOS when they blew it dead for some reason despite the ball carrier never being down (they were lateralling it around but I don't think there was a clear forward pass and figured they blew it dead because it's the Pro Bowl but maybe I missed a forward pass in there somewhere).

It's funny that Rivers had extremely talented teams early in his career and only made the conference championship once. Generally speaking, the Chargers have had more talented teams than the Giants over the course of their careers and Rivers didn't have one run like Eli's, much less two.

Remind me how the Giants won those NFC championship games

and yes, those runs were great. I'm not denying that. I just think it's funny that Eli basically gets a pass forever because the Giants went on two crazy playoff runs

Sure but in that time Brady, Peyton, and Big Ben dominated the conference and that's pretty much everyone he lost to (except for that time they missed like 10 field goals and lost to the Sanchez Jets). Hell he even beat Peyton twice! Pretty much every other team that beat them appeared in or won the Super Bowl, other than the 2006 Patriots who blew an 18-point lead in the AFC championship and probably should have gotten there. Anyway, the point is they lost to really good teams.

Well yeah, he won perhaps the most legendary game in our lifetimes by beating the undefeated Patriots.

And yes, the AFC had really good teams, but for Rivers's first ten years in the league, Brady didn't win a Super Bowl, Peyton won 1, and Roethlisberger won 2. It wasn't like those Chargers teams didn't have the talent to win it all. There was a reason they literally had a coach get fired after a 14-2 season.

Boring week before the Superbowl, so let's look a list at some of the decade's best QBs and decide whether or not they'll be in the HOF:

  • Brady: obviously
  • Peyton Manning: obviously
  • Brees: obviously
  • Rogers: obviously
  • Eli Manning: probably
  • Big Ben: probably
  • Wilson: probably (assuming a long career)
  • Rivers: maybe
  • Matt Ryan: maybe
  • Cam Newton: probably not
  • Romo: no (not as a player, at least)
  • Stafford: no
  • Foles: no
  • Flacco: no
  • Luck: no

Initial gut reactions, at least.
