Buying the "game" is 99 cents. Buying the second half of 4-1 is 1.99. Buying any other case is 3.99. I guess that's a discount of one dollar.

I was bored and figured I'd knock out 4-1 and see why people hated Apollo. So far, I don't get it.

That's because 4-1 is largely considered the best case in the game, and one of the best, if not the overall best first case in the series

Just finished 4-1. I enjoyed it. I couldve lived without the constant O RLY references, but it set up a lot of questions and Apollo seemed fine. One note: continuing on the Phoenix Wright predicts things train, I can assure you its quite based. Based wasnt even a meme until like 2017.

Problem is how AA4 treats Apollo, tbh. In 4-1 Phoenix just does most of the work.

Hes not as cool as Phoenix, but nothing about him was notable bad. I assume he grows into a better attorney over time.

Apollo is not bad, but I don't love him by any means. My favorite new character in this one is the prosecutor, and even he isn't super high on my overall list.

Also, one thing of minor note: the judge was prepared to release Phoenix without knowing who the real killer was. These games sure are consistent about the rules.

the newer games actually aren't nearly as dumb about that stuff! i don't make a habit of losing but I'm pretty sure some game overs happen not because your client get proclaimed guilty but because the real killer doesn't get found before the trial ends

Also here's the thing I hinted at a long time ago that you've probably forgotten I ever mentioned: Shu Takumi originally didn't want Phoenix in the game at all since he thought his story had wrapped up quite nicely. However, Capcom was afraid the game wouldn't sell if Phoenix wasn't attached to it in some form, and thus Hobonix was born.

I didn't know it would be Phoenix. I thought we were going to be in for an MGS2 thing where we're introduced to a nobody, then Phoenix shows up partway and becomes your mentor. And yeah, having Phoenix be gone would make sense. I kind of got the impression that he would end up together with Maya or Iris at the end and that'd be that, but there's no way the daughter who shows up for five seconds will be theirs. How do I know? Because anime kids always have the hair color of one of their parents, and both of them and Phoenix have black hair.

Although, like I said, now that you know that the series continued and was good afterwards, AA4 might seem more like a weird experimental chapter and less like a franchise ruining catastrophe, so it might not seem as bad

AA4 honestly isn't that bad imo, I replayed it recently and it was fine. It's still the worst AA game but the AA games are all fine

Yeah, I mean, I've beaten it multiple times so it's not like I think it's completely without value. I can even find things to like about the bad cases!

4-2 is fine.

But yeah that first investigation is so dumb.

Like the writers have so little faith Apollo can be hired to do some lawyering they had him do this weird fetch quest first.

And Trucy is good but she lacks Maya's most important quality which is smelling insane cases for the lawyer to take.

4-2 has my least-favorite character in the franchise and another in my bottom 5.

I said I don't have enough time to keep doing the large writeups, dammit! But I will say that this has one of the weaker cliffhangers of a case. For all the theoretical drama of a mysterious shadowy figure taking your friend hostage with a knife, I had more interest when unexpected witnesses were called.
