Fun Fact: In Japan, it's considered to be a mark of a true fan if you know Penny Nichols's Japanese name.

- I like the idea of a high-profile trial attracting throngs of people waiting outside, since that actually does happen in real life.
- Ah, the famous Godot. I remember him being a huge meme on Board 8 like fifteen years ago. He was one of the most talked about parts of the series.
- I like how Godot flips the never lost a case thing on its head by never having prosecuted a case before, and his argument about the mask, but the problem is, its not very impressive to outwit the judge.
- I like how Godot keeps pausing the trial to drink coffee with that gross swallowing noise and wax philosophical about it. He gives off a completely different vibe from Edgeworth and Franziska, although Im not sure about Phoenix calling him the most dangerous enemy Ive ever faced.
- Witness! Giving false testimony is a serious crime! No its not.
- I guess Franziska did set a precedent for attacking your opponent in court, so I cant complain about throwing coffee.
- Ron DeLites wife shows up with the broken urn and says I illegally stole this from the detectives office, and Phoenix backs her up. Im sure shell face legal consequences for this later. Howd she even know to do this?
- What is Mr. Atmeys condition? He is still in the lobby laughing insanely, your Honor.
- The judge on Larry Butz, a man hes seen twice before: Who is this useless-looking young man?!
- I genuinely thought thered be another objection when the judge was going to declare Ron DeLite not guilty again.
- I like the idea of having to work against your client to prove hes not a thief while he claims to be one and the prosecutor has to keep egging him on. This is a clever turnaround (one might even say a turnabout).
- After the trial, Godot says the body of the security company was discovered and arrests DeLite again, this time for murderrrrrrr. I knew the game couldnt go one trial without a murder.
- So, Godot. I notice his gimmick is constantly drinking coffee and getting it out of nowhere. I almost remember that Mias lawyer boyfriend died from drinking poisoned coffee, and the murderer swore revenge after being caught. Theres no way that detail would be accidental in this game. Im calling it now: Godot is Mias boyfriend who survived, he wears a mask so no one recognizes him, he hates Phoenix because he failed to save her (Ive returned from the depths of Hell to do battle with you), Phoenix is like who is this dude because he never actually met Mias boyfriend, and Dahlia is going to come back somehow and do something. In the end, Maya or Pearl will channel Mia and shell talk to him or whatever.

you mentioned Edgeworth being abroad again last topic. it wouldn't be a very good idea for Edgeworth to get continually worked by Phoenix's dumb luck in every random case since he's seen to be the best prosecutor of the bunch.

It sure was interesting having the first part of 3-2 be a trial for something other than murder. It would be cool if the series revisited that and stuck with it for a whole case.

Godot is one of the less-serious prosecutors in the series (I'd say the least-serious and least-intimidating is still yet to come, excepting Payne of course).

- Phoenix talks about how last year, there was a murder in Kurain Village because the spirit channeling power was misused. No it wasnt. There was zero spirit channeling in that murder. The implication is that Maya was possessed and killed someone, which is completely false. Stupid new players needing to be caught up.
- I just realized Desirees earrings are little motorcycle tires.
- You know, it was a major plot point in the last game that Adrian Andrews is short. But here we see a full picture of her tripping and she looks to be of average height. Looks like someone didnt get the memo.
- Actually, not a lot happens this investigation day. Bit disappointing.

Yeah, it's a pretty straightforward investigation day. Actually, 3-2 has one of my biggest "why are Phoenix and Maya so dumb" moments with the urn and the box. Like, it's blatantly obvious even on day 1 what happened, and yet it's the very last thing you solve on day 2.

No, it was a major plot point that she's shorter than a handsome actor, you know, guys that are usually like 5'10-6'3ish. Adrian could totally be like 5'4 and that pic and the plot point both make sense.

I clearly recall Phoenix saying she was short, not just shorter than Matt Engarde. We see her in the picture and she has to be at least a good five inches shorter than him. Admittedly, there's no way to know how tall he is, but I definitely got the impression that she was supposed to be unusually short.

There are a lot of moments like that. A better question is how you could put the urn back together but flip the A and the I.

- Phoenix and Maya go to the courthouse, and Phoenix is surprised to learn that Atmey is being tried next door as Mask DeMasque already. That was fast. Phoenix, shut up. Just shut up.
- Youre not slipping that Princess Bridge reference past me, game.
- What thethere are appeals in this legal system?
- Ahhhhh a different judge, Im not ready for this. I wonder if the lawyer is Winston Payne just because they didnt want to make another sprite. I notice we dont see the defense attorney.
- But Atmey isnt being tried as a murderer, hes here as a witness in a different persons murder trial, dammit, double jeopardy doesnt applyyyyyyyyyy. The judge even calls him a witness a second later!
- Godot agrees to Mias request when Maya channels her, hes totally the boyfriend.
- Okay, so, this case. I like the idea of trying to prove someone isnt guilty of a crime he claims to be guilty of because its a lesser crime than what hes actually guilty of. I like the idea of all his careful machinations being ruined by Larry Butzs incompetence. I dont like Atmey himself, hes kind of a lame killer.
- Speaking of killers, why not rank them for no reason, then include Matt Engarde while not including de Killer, Morgan Fey, and Yanni Yogi? Damon Gant = von Karma > Matt Engarde > Redd White > Dahlia Hawthorne > Dee Vasquez > Mimi Miney > Luke Atmey > Frank Sahwit > Richard Wellington > Acro
- I also think DeLites reasoning for stuffing the body into the safe makes no sense even after they explained it.
- As for Godot, whos totally Mias boyfriend, I like him more than Franziska for sure, and probably more than von Karma. I like the philosophizing and how he actually outsmarts Phoenix with the first trial although after that, he never really does anything super clever, and just busts out the same kind of prove this stuff all the prosecutors do. He comes across as genuinely disliking Phoenix himself, whereas Edgeworth seemed to enjoy everything, while still being competent, unlike Franziska. With her, I never got the impression that she was in Phoenixs league, Godot actually feels like he is.

I like Atmey and Ron a lot, so I hold 3-2 in high regard. That last testimony is one of my favorite moments in the series. It's so good.

And yeah, Godot comes across as a lot more threatening than Franziska ever did, but he resorts to "prove it or suffer a double penalty" a lot. Still, I love his nonsensical proverbs and his entire design.

And it makes sense to try to get convicted of a lesser crime than murder in the AA world because anything else just gets a slap on the wrist (hello, Adrian).

I enjoy 3-3 for the filler it is.

Also, Ron DeLite is legitimately my favorite defendant in the entire series that you've played up until now (Edgeworth is a fantastic character, but when he's a defendant, he's only pretty good). He has fantastic chemistry with Godot and his cross exams are amazing. The chain of events where he's like:
"If I wasn't wearing that, I'd have been killed...."
"Uh, wearing what?"
"My Mask DeMasque costume of course! It took a lot longer cuz of the cape...."
"What took longer?"
"Putting the body in the safe!"
"WHAT? WHY'D YOU PUT THE BODY IN THE SAFE?!"
"Well, it wouldn't fit in the drawer...."

Probably my favorite interaction in the entire series. Then he's like "wait, don't I get off on the whole thievery business cuz of double jeopardy?" and Godot's immediate response is "...... I was careless." Ron's the best.

I saw that part coming from a mile away. DeLite was treated too sympathetically to be sent to prison.

Though until we got to the part where it's revealed how the photo was taken in advance, I figured the Mask DeMasque at the crime scene would actually be the wife somehow.

3-2 is good in a lot of ways but it suffers for only having a single suspect in the whole case. So you just cross-examine Atmey over and over and it gets old after a while.

Though the game does take that as a chance to make some memes. Atmey repeating his dramatic confession at the end of the trial is incredible.

Imo it's the weak link of the game. 3-3 is way better.

Episode 3: Recipe for Turnabout
- We begin with the judge laying down a sentence of guilty for someone poisoning someone else but the defendant protests and describes a man who looks like Phoenix Wright poisoning the guy. Winston Payne laughs at his success, taunting the defense attorney: Phoenix Wright.
- A month later, a lawyer review magazine (the most unrealistic idea in the whole series) calls Phoenix and amateur for his performance. Phoenix protests, saying that he doesnt remember a poisoning case last month. Someone heard about the famous Phoenix Wright and impersonated him.
- Oh, the defendant is Maggey from the second game, only now shes a waitress. I made this joke before, but Im going to recycle it like the game recycles sprites: I dont know how much of this series reusing characters is genuinely because it likes the characters and how much is because it already has the sprites ready.
- Maggey Byrde is awfully quick to celebrate the real Phoenix Wright showing up. For all she knows, Phoenix has two doppelgangers, and this is just the second evil one. Or maybe its the first one pretending to be the real Phoenix Wright again.
- Maggey says she was fired last year. Wrongful termination suit, anyone? But more importantly, in the second game, she specifically said she quit. Someone lied to us.
- You know, Id forgive Maggey not recognizing the back of Phoenixs head, even though that makes no sense in a real life context, except that the series has gone to great lengths to establish how unusual Phoenixs hair style is.
- Oh man, gay jokes, how I missed you, Japan. This guy is already in the running for most unpleasant witness since the circus. Hes also probably the killer.
- I notice how the old man directly complains about how the youth doesnt respect the old bushido values of Japan. To be honest, its true. People in LA really dont care about that.
- So was the pitch for this story Maya has to wear a waitress uniform for some reason?
- What is with the lecherous old man trope in Japanese media? I swear I see one in everything I play or watch from Japan.

- Hey, Detective, youre on our side for once, right? Maya, Gumshoes been on your side at least half the time now. In fact, lets figure out how many times hes been on your side versus not your side.

Okay, well, I guess I proved myself wrong here. Maya Fey: Officially smarter than Anagram.
- Game, you are not allowed to use the phrase reasonable doubt. Literally the first case of the first game establishes that you need definitive evidence and that reasonable doubt is useless.
- So Godot is colorblind, I assume. He mentioned something about being bad with colors last case.
- I guess thats the most careless thing Ive done so far, pal. Said the guy introduced giving you the wrong autopsy report.
- In the good old days, we would have drank every last drop, eaten the cup, then died!
- The old man never saw Maggey Byrdes face, the waitress was the goth girl I saw for one second.
- This old man was probably the easiest witness in the series so far.
