Ive seen mostly support from the Witcher groups I frequent? A lot of the shit was cried about during initial casting, but thats gone down.

Ever since pictures and videos started releasing, I've heard nothing but hype. Granted I don't seek it coverage, especially among fandoms, but that doesn't seem like "shit on" to me. I'm excited to watch this when I get home.

One initial gripe I have is that I wish they were dropping it an episode a week. I understand that's not the Netflix model, but it's a great way to build hype and investment if it's able to hit the ground running. Maybe if season 1 gets rave reviews they'll do that for season 2.

Same, people that saw the pre screening seemed to be very up on it,

I watched the first 10 minutes and was enjoying every second.

I also heard that turning on subtitles might make for a better experience. I turned them on halfway and thought it was pretty helpful with all the foreign words being thrown around mixed with the accents.

The series is an adaptation of the novels. The games feature all of the characters and reference the novels, but they aren't canon and the author hates them.

I mean... it is.

the Witcher games are sequels to the books. The author doesnt consider them canon, but that doesnt really matter at this point.

The games are set after the books, but TW1 doesn't have a whole lot to do with them. There are loads of returning characters (who Geralt doesn't remember, of course), but in terms of picking up story threads, only the first short story is particularly relevant- the opening cutscene is basically an adaptation of it.

TW3, on the other hand, is very much a sequel to the main novel storyline.

first episode was fine? i'm a little worried about how much the show seems to be chewing through so much of the short stories for plot purposes rather than character + worldbuilding + tone, because the series strength in any format was never its plot, but it was a first episode so i can give them a little leeway when they're doing it to set up the season arc.

You all need to rewatch that in slow motion and see those moves cause a LOT of shit is going on there.

This show is freaking awesome. No idea why people are shitting on it. I'm a big fan. Triss casting was terrible, but Yenifer is hella on point.

He said a couple of times in interviews he liked the series because of the games. Then he read the books later, I think after he got cast.

So it's not that much of a surprise I guess.

I saw episode 1 with the ladyfriend and we both enjoyed it. I don't know much about the books, just the games and really all I remember is the stuffed unicorn sex stuff and trying to steal stuff without aggroing guards

I've watched the first two episodes. Not sure how I feel yet. I appreciate everything I see. I've read The Last Wish, so I have some knowledge going in about the stories they are telling. Things feel rushed and jumpcutty. Maybe that will improve though once the main cast starts sharing screen time. Assuming the second season leads to a third season, maybe things will also feel more cohesive when the source material is a novel rather than a series of short stories.

I'm very excited to keep watching, but I plan on getting my wife to watch too and I worry that she'll be confused not having and prior knowledge of The Witcher.

Just binged the whole show. Not impressed with triss, but overall pretty good!

My biggest gripe is that potions, signs, those kinds of things aren't terribly present outside of a few nods.

Three episodes in and I'm liking it more than I thought I would.

It's got that campy Xena feel to it. Seems like it's following the short stories right now so hopefully that means we move to the bigger arcs in season 2.

the most interesting plot development of the first six episodes happens at the end of ep 3! i might give it just one more, because it's an interesting one.
