I know so many friends who've shit talked the new trilogy constantly for years

Force Awakens? Trash
The Last Jedi? Trash
Every teaser/trailer they've shown for the next movie? Trash

But you know they're going to being watching the new one in theaters opening weekend. The majority of the time I hear people talking about star wars it's how much they disliked it. I get there's always a vocal minority but star wars has their vocal minority by the balls, more than any other franchise I've seen.

Also wanna see how the few people that somehow become invested in this trilogy end up leaving disappointed

Nah, I preordered tix to TLJ. not seeing this one opening weekend. Just don't care. I've read all the leaks and stuff already bc I don't care. I avoided TFA and TLJ spoilers like the plague.

Everyone has different opinions, but even the prequels deserve better than the vastly superior Disney movies have gotten from this perverted corner of the fandom. Like, those movies are fucking grandma fart and coffee enema evels of awful, but even they deserve a reach around.

Mandalorian ended up being great but is still a good example of what I mean. People complaining about how Disney ruined Star Wars and then buying Disney+ day 1 mostly for Mandalorian. I feel like if it had been awful, people wouldve said typical fucking disney and then buy right into the next star wars show/movie.

I was sick of the Force Awakens oversaturation, but it was never a bad movie lmao

I swear to god, it was the biggest movie on the planet for like a year and then a bunch of bitterbeards came along and #NotMyStarWars'd it. Strange, considering it recaptured the spirit of adventure without the need for a "Space Fascist erodes the core of intergalactic politics over the course of 3 movies so he can become a creepy space man shooting lightning out of his hands" plotline.

The Last Jedi was rough, though. They could have cut back on the Canto Bight chase sequence and really reined in the goofy Marvel humor, and it would have been a pretty solid movie. But God that flick was a slog.

Then again, I wouldn't really call myself a Star Wars fan to begin with. Star Wars fandom is about as hazardous to a sane person's health as second-hand smoking.

I feel like this is a problem that just transcends all media. Game of Thrones, tons of people have HBO and have been watching for years but the quality went down, more people watched than ever by the end. Pokmon, they cut over 50% of the Pokmon in the game, people bitch for six+ months, still sells millions of copies like crazy. Star Wars, same thing lol.

I'm a Star Wars fan and I will be seeing it opening weekend, but my hype levels are low, my hope levels are even lower. Right now I'm just hoping it's better than TLJ at this point.

The Mandalorian doeasnt really count. With its established talent and left to their own devices far away from disney higher ups it had been a success regardless of who they worked under. These are the kinds of people disney should have had running the trilogy in the first place.

Im going to see it because Ive already seen the first two. its like, if there was a tv show that I felt ruined itself a few episodes before the finale, I wouldnt just drop the show. Its not much of a time investment to just see how it ends. And I can at least enjoy tearing it apart from an informed perspective.

But I skipped Solo, havent subbed to Disney Plus for the Mandorian, and have no interest in anything that had been announced for the franchise up to this point. Unless someone specifically invites me to watch with them, Im not going out of my way to watch Star Wars movies anytime soon. >->

The audio and visuals are still great, even if the movies are bad. So it is worth seeing them in theaters so you get at least something out of the experience.

I was lukewarm (no pun intended) on TFA, but thought the new series had some potential, then TLJ screwed that up and now I'm not excited for TROS. I may watch it at some point, but definitely not any time soon. Still, I don't just sit around and stew in my hatred over things like nerds do. My once hatred of stuff like that has become jaded depression. SW is just another series of many that got ruined for me. While it's sad, I'll move on.

I've seen all the films. They all fall somewhere between meh and decent, with the exception of Ep 1 which is the only one I consider truly bad. There are no amazing or even great films in this series. They're popcorn flicks you're not supposed to think about too hard, and yet people are just totally absorbed into it. It baffles me.

I'm going to watch Episode IX but mostly as a matter of closure. At this juncture I have almost no hope the movie will be good and, honestly, it has enough potential to rank among the worst movies of the decade (barely made it under the bar but it could pull it off).

Episode VIII flipped the script (trying to set up a bittersweet ending, similar to Episode V) and probably ended up worse for it, not giving them a lot of direction on where to take the series into its concluding chapter. Add to that the tragic death of Carrie Fisher and they are left with no concrete way to properly give Kylo Ren's character arc a narrative payoff. I just don't know how they can get themselves out of this mess.
