I half agree with xp but I think Flora's let down by Fates writing more than most others (probably as a consequence of being tied directly to Corrin and Garon). There's something interesting there but you have to dig through too many layers of stupid to find it.

62nd Izana

Ranking really only this high because his introduction and character is amusing...for the one chapter that focuses on him almost like anime filler. Its a break from the norm and I was thankful for that. But hes another one note support character, shallow at best and really had no point even being recruit-able.

I haven't played Fates and don't have plans for it so far but wow reading the list and comments so far somehow surprises me that they can get it this bad. I don't remember the character writing ever get this bad in the previous games. Seems like someone like Meg (RD) can somehow not be in the bottom tier if she were in this game.

Whaaat Izana has more than one entertaining line, which puts him in the top twenty characters for sure. He's funny in pretty much every scene he's in, his conversation with Kana is actually funny to read, which is a crazy feat. He also gives his life without hesitation to avert disaster. Also, hello, winner of best hair several years in a row? Recruiting him has a point because he's the best husband "You put a ring on Izana baby!"

Exactly how high up is Corrin

Yeah Izana's great. Definitely the best one-noter and better than a lot of more fully fledged characters.

FE7: Playable? idk Lowen? Though he's just a whatever character not really actively bad.
FE8 is kind of a similar boat.
Tellius: Makalov. Dawn Brigade is pretty sad too, honestly, but more on the whatever side mostly.
Awakening: Tharja, Aversa, Vaike, Yarne. it begins.

FE8: No one stands out as particularly awful, but Moulder's pretty boring.
FE9: Makalov
FE10: Makalov again but also Oliver or a no-personality filler laguz like Gareth
Awakening: Yarne
Echoes: Conrad

Not sure if that last one needs spoiler tags but edited them in just in case. Also ^5 xp on the Makalov consensus lmao

61st Shura

I kinda hate and like Shura. Hes another one note unit but once again just feels more incomplete than anything. His home kingdom was ruined so he becomes a mercenary, he joins Corrin in all 3 paths. But uh hm thats kinda it until his like epilogue line. I found him actually a bit useful in the Revelations playthru briefly but the other two paths hes just fodder. It just feels like they ran out of time with him.

60th Charlotte

Charlottesbackstory here isn't a problem, although there is some irony that she tries to hide her brutal side and that's exactly what gets her demoted to the border. What's weird is she continues to show that faux persona and it makes her really unlikable. Almost all of her dialogs are extremely shallow because of this, Characters don't get to meet the real Charlotte usually til A rank and then its over. There might be depth but we really don't get to see that as a player. I really don't care for her butcher barbie design she got. I got some use of her in Conquest but nothing in Revelations

Seems like all the 1 support line characters are at the bottom by default.

In the case of fates I'd say less is more tbh. Like a lot of these characters more than the ones with lots. Less bad writing to ruin them.

I vaguely like Charlotte. In a world of royalty and retainers, she and Benny are just two random schmucks trying to make it through the day. I can respect that.

Benny is definitely the better half of the duo, though.

59th Gunter

I disagree with Corrin here, he really can't be forgiven for murder and plotting to overthrow everything cause Corrin wants to believe in people. Thats dumb. This only happens in Revelations, in Birthright he dies in the prologue and Conquest he just helps you as a strong unit early then fades away. I get his side and his backstory to an extent. Except he rejects the blood of the dragon...only to still serve the same dragon willingly? Kinda dumb character progression.

Finally someone who belongs at the bottom of the list yeah Gunther being instantly forgiven is so weird and jarring, the best part though is right after that Ananakos starts lamenting about his eternity of loneliness and Corrin essentially responds with "fuck you" and whacks him with her sword. Corrin forgiving anyone and everyone except for the eternal being in constant suffering was just so funny to me.

58th Scarlet

So I'll tell you why even in retrospect this character is this low. I didn't care when she died, and its Kazes fault. In Conquest Scarlet is brutally killed, in Revelations shes brutally killed in a 'shocking cutscene'. Except I forgot she was even a character because she has limited supports (see almost none). When Kaze dies in Birthright? I was literally shocked and sat down the DS, he had full supports and they got ballsy enough to just off him.

So no, I'm sorry B8 she did enough to be higher than the other one trick supports but not enough for me to care over a more fleshed out character.

I do like this fact though

57th Subaki

Subaki is perfect, he was born into royalty and unlike other royal units that chose their retainers hes just kinda assigned to Sakura. His goal is to throw his superiority over others, as he is perfect. The only person to show him up, although he won't admit it, his own daughter we'll cover down the road. In fact its this dialog that actually makes him anything of a character, the fact he does have flaws in not being the best at something. Though the real thing hes not perfect at? Battle he's an awful unit.

Subaki has some supports with characters that show his flaws toward the end, but yeah, pretty middle of the road character. I don't have any strong opinions of him one way or another

56th Felicia

IIts amazing what a simple design change can do. She has some alt costume artwork in I guess FE heroes and chucking the maid outfit helps her. It wouldnt have skyrocketed her in this ranking but she would have been a little higher. As it stands her design sucks, shes rather useless in battle unless you drastically class change her, and her personality is more annoying than cute.

I think if I like anything about her its that she has a lot of military commanding skill as told by a few narratives but she has no interest and just wants to be a terrible maid. Oh did I forget to mention that, just like Setsuna shes also kinda terrible at what she does? The stupid part of this is her ending says she then goes into the military and gives up maiding. ????

For real, though. It's such an odd choice for a personality for that unit (or vice versa).

I like Felicia though. She didn't really do anything to make me hate her and she becomes a killer midgame unit when you get the Flame Shuriken (IIRC, whichever one does damage off Magic).

55th Orochi

I'm sure no one will like this especially when I say she is female Azama. Really she is. If Azama enjoys making people miserable and harassing people, then she does it with mischief and purposefully screwing with you fortune telling. I think the only enjoyable conversation I found was her and Hayato competing to find the best stuff their ....magic? Her conversations with her 'childhood best friend' Kaegero aren't even that interesting. In battle I could barely keep her alive, and her contribution was birthing someones heir pretty much. Which really makes it seem she was a rejected Conception character

54th Thar...I mean Rhajat

This is almost a copy and paste job, hence her low rank. It's literally Tharja from Awakening right down to falling in love with the hero in the same creepy way. Shes a practicer of dark magic and doesn't even remotely fit being Hayatos daughter aside from the magic tie in. If anything this should have been the daughter of Azama and Orochi.

In battle she is a glass cannon with no ammo....lord. Her speed is a saving grace but she still blows. What gets her ranked this high is if you ignore her parentage issues she has some decent conversations. Not many but enough to keep her from the bottom. I just feel so ripped off though by this paste job

53rd Kana

Kana sucks. Really they really do. If Chroms daughter is the badass Lucina then why is Kana just so awful? Well MegamanX why is Kana awful. Well I'm glad you asked. Instead of giving us a teenager like most children we get a young child unit. And while their paralogue is one of my favorites for how chaotic the battles are, Kana is really just an out of control preteen that after that is just sugar and gumdrops.

You might be wondering whats their story hit? They are Corrins child. That's kinda it. Her/His Epilogue stats that history shows a dragon doing good deeds that scholars believe to be Kana. Younger units in Fire Emblem usually get some development but Kana is a Child-Child unit so there is nothing here.

Male Kana is especially awful and even somehow worse in battle than Female Kana (Shouldn't they be exactly the same?). Kana is very heavily reliant on the Dragonstone to well do anything and uh unlike the Beaststone, dragons are made of glass. At least they damage well?

I also get the dress like your father at work day but god Kana could have benefited from a good outfit. Corrins style is atrocious, put on some damn shoes you hippie
