If only Kansas had relaxed gun laws so someone could've fought back and killed the attacker.

Oh, wait... They're ranked 45th out of 50 for strength of gun laws: https://lawcenter.giffords.org/scorecard/#KS

How could this have happened?!

Probably because it was in a bar, and I know in most states you cannot carry in a bar. You certainly cannot carry while youre consuming alcoholic beverages. Its likely the law in that state too. So yeah, it is too bad that nobody had their firearm on them to fight back. Maybe the bar owners should have been carrying.

So what are you trying to say here? That you want to see all guns banned and confiscated. You gun grabbers should have the courage to be specific about what you want. Itll make the conversation a lot easier.

Can't you read? Let me make it easy for you since you have so much trouble following the three short sentences from my original post:

Clearly, I'm for granting better access to firearms to increase the ability for citizens to defend themselves, as evidenced by my incredulity that this shooting could've happened in a state with already relaxed laws like Kansas. Obviously they need to do more to get guns into the hands of responsible citizens.

That has already happened (open carry), however guns are forbidden in bars in pretty much every state even open carry states like KS or NC.

I don't give a fuck about slavery. That problem was fixed 150 years ago. It's not hurting people now, but the second amendment is. It made a little sense 250 years ago in the days of muskets, but now that there are semi-auto guns that can fire a hundred shots in a minute, it needs to be changed.

It's weird that the US has the highest number of good guys with guns in the world, yet the bad guys with guns still keep racking up the body count.

Doesn't that seem weird to anyone else?

Because clearly sticking guns in the hands of people who don't want them and/or shouldn't have them is going to improve things oh so much.

It makes the same sense today as it did then. More importantly, an unmodified semi-auto weapon isn't going to be firing anywhere near as many shots in a minute. You've confused it with full-auto weapons, which are heavily restricted. But then again, that kind of ignorance is consistent with your support of gun control.

You mean weirder than the fact that the areas with the highest body counts are the ones with the most gun control? And that most mass-shootings actually happen in "gun-free zones" where good guys have to leave their guns behind? One can hardly forget that almost immediately after gun-free zones, a good gal was forced to watch her parents die in a restaurant because she had left her own gun in her car (obeying the law) and was therefore powerless to stop it.

Don't twist what I said. I condemned slavery in a sentence you conveniently left out, so don't act like I'm fine with that shit.

My point was the problem of slavery is irrelevant now. That mistake was fixed a very long time ago. The second amendment hasn't been updated as firearm technology improved. And because of it, there's 1.24 mass shootings per day in America.

You really think 100 shots in a minute is unrealistic? The Christchurch shooter fired a little over 110 shots in a minute. And he wasn't even firing for half of that minute. And he was using semi-auto guns, not full-auto.

...lolwut? You don't need a semi-auto gun for a mass shooting. Some of the most infamous recent shootings have just involved handguns, including the Charleston Church shooting which claimed 9 lives. Otherwise amendments don't tend to "updated" as technology improves and countless restrictions have been placed on firearm ownership since the Second Amendment was put in the Bill of Rights.

Another non-gang related mass shooting in a 'gun free zone', who woulda guessed?

Um, the news this morning is saying that it was gang-related. As a point of interest, both shooters have a history of violent crime, and were, in fact, already out on bail awaiting trial for previous offenses, including assault on a deputy sheriff who was working security at a bar.

I'm trying to imagine how more laws would be helpful, when existing laws certainly weren't a deterrent in this case.

Restrict pistols to home/business/shooting range use. All long arms are legal and open carry everywhere but banks and government property.

I would support this kind of legislation. You cant fight the government with sidearms. (which is why they want to ban rifles)

the US has roughly 19million concealed carry holders as of this year, with a good chunk of them im sure not carrying every day at every second (and most of those are spread across several states, not evenly across 50). most people also dont walk around with a gun on them thanks to areas (like bars) largely outlawing them. basically you have to actually have a "good guy with a gun" be present to actually qualify and the numbers right now are too low (getting better tho) to have a large impact when these situations crop up especially when these shootings by and large take place in areas where guns arnt allowed and if youre a "law abiding citizen/gun owner (specially with a registered ccw)" you dont want to break the law.

and if someone does intervene its usually in the opening few seconds of a shooting where the damage is going to be minor and news about it is going to be much more low-key to the point most dont even hear about it. the CDC estimated there are 300-500k defensive gun uses a year. chances are good atleast some of them have stopped a would-be mass shooting already.

Whatever restrictions have been implemented clearly aren't enough because there's still 1.24 mass shootings per day in America.

I got the number by putting the audio of it into Audacity and counting them. He fired 114 shots in the first minute. With the parts where he wasn't shooting cut out, it's about 30 seconds of shooting. So clearly, even with the time it takes to reload, it's pretty easy to fire a hundred times in a minute with a semi-auto gun.

It was only Jefferson who believed it should be revised every 20 years or so. Regardless, the point of the constitution wasn't that the government was giving rights to the people but that the people had rights and protections FROM the government. Revisions to the constitution are adequately addressed with amendments if you ask me.

Otherwise you leave every amendment open for revision which is scary to me. I never want the government to be in a position where it can take away my right to free speech, religion, remove the abolishment of slavery, etc.

The rights enumerated on the list are and should be incredibly difficult to remove. Adding stuff to it, however, should and is accomplished more easily.
