99% of the crap at McDonald's is horrible

99% of crap is horrible because it's crap. However, the non-crap at McDonald's --- which is pretty much everything at McDonald's -- is pretty good. Not super-fond of the prices these days, though.

Five Guys' fries are ridiculously overpriced, like everything else there. For those prices, I'd rather just go to a diner.

I only eat at McD's maybe 3 or 4 times a year, and every time I go, I find it to be at the least decent tasting. I finally tried the Filet O'Fish about a year ago and was pleasantly surprised. I also found the Sausage McMuffin to be really good.

A large order of fries at Five Guys is $5.79 according to:
https://www.fastfoodmenuprices.com/five-guys-prices/

A pound of potatoes in 2018 cost $0.72 according to:
https://www.statista.com/statistics/236901/retail-price-of-potatoes-in-the-united-states/

So, based on those, to me, a good amount of fries at a restaurant for $5.79 would be around 4 pounds.

The mc Donalds fish fillet has always been my favorite thing on the menu, and I get it without sauce or cheese. Thing is, I don't and pretty much never have bought it because they charge WAY to much for a frozen fish fillet between two cheap buns.

The chicken sandwich was $1, and tasted just about as good, with mustard + lettuce on it (no mayo for me). Meanwhile the Fish Fillet was freaking $4, you could get 4 chicken sandwiches (Which probably cost more to make in fact) for 1 Fish Fillet.

I have not eaten there pretty much since they boosted the prices and basically made it so you have to get 2 doubles or chicken sandwiches (or one of each) for $3. The burgers just make me sick, and while the price isn't horrid for the chicken sandwich, I just have had better choices...and usually just went to Arby's for the Gyros (2 for $6) instead if I was going with fast food. Way better, healthier, and more filling.

I rarely eat there. Maybe once a year when traveling and I need something fast. All I can say is the food is pretty bad, fairly consistent from on to another and fills you up if you order enough. Low tier food for the hungry.

I find it interesting how similar and different Maccas tastes in each market. Fries and hash browns are the same, but the meat flavour is quite different.

Eg the breakfast sausage in the muffins is very different in US vs Australia but they could be due to the quality of the meat.

Just wait until McDonalds conquers the entire planet.

It'll happen. They'll introduce a new web search engine called McSearch, and it'll put Google out of business, and they will buy out Microsoft renaming it McRosoft, and will buy out Wal-Mart and name it McMart. They will start purchasing entire countries, starting at Macedonia, renaming it McEdonia, and will continue to buy countries outright, until they conquer McEarth, where everyone will have broken ice cream machines and the end.

Most restaurants typically aim for around 30-35% food cost when pricing their stuff, with the rest of the cost made up by the labour and other expenses. You're suggesting 50%, as well as basing that suggestion off of the purchase weight of the potatoes. For fries, purchase weight and actual weight are pretty similar, since you're just cutting the potatoes up and frying them (unless you peel them), but you will still lose some weight as water evaporates during the cooking, plus the inevitable bad potatoes that can't be used, all of which means you're suggesting even higher than 50%. That's not really reasonable pricing for such a common item as french fries.

Not to mention most burger places make their money by selling fries+drinks, the burgers are the least profitable items for them and while they don't lose money selling those they make the lowest margins. It's why they always try to get you to buy the combo meal in a lot of places.
