Is anyone saying he's "just" a womanizer? It's just a big part of his character (and it still was well into the 90s - all four Brosnan movies ended with him getting it on and then that woman never being seen again).

Craig's Bond has certainly gotten away from it a little bit. Skyfall didn't even really have a Bond girl, unless you count Moneypenny (or M).

As someone with the shameful distinction of having seen every single James Bond movie, here are Bond's defining attributes:
1. British
2. Spy
3. Cultured/wealthy
4. Usually unflappable, but occasionally gets angry
5. Womanizer at best, misogynist at worst
I don't know if you can make the fifth attribute work. Your only choices are to ignore it, to make her a lesbian, or to have her act toward men the same way the previous Bonds act toward women. My instinct says they'd choose the third option and have a Bond Boy, but I feel like people would react to that differently than they react to Bond Girls.

James Bond is a franchise that's inherently rooted in the Cold War and has been sort of lost and ailing since then. I guess this is a way to shake things up, but I don't think it shakes things up in a way that deals with that core issue the franchise hasn't been able to deal with. I guess the studio might be hoping to appeal to new fans with this move, but I don't know if the social justice crowd cares at all about James Bond of all things.

It is worth noting that this is similar to an idea the franchise had in 2002, where Die Another Day was going to have a spinoff starring Halle Berry's character as another spy in the James Bond universe, but then dropped it because everyone hated the movie.

Lets face it thats what the west likes badass male characters are a thing of the past now they even demand it
They want Sadie to be the protagonist of RDR
They want Zelda to be the protagonist in the Botw sequel they are even begging for it
They want a female protagonist for the next bully or gta game
They want a female protagonist for the next dmc game
They preferred fem Shepard over male Shepard

You can even see the massive backlash that days gone got for having a white male biker as a protagonist
So why are people freaking out about this one?

Actually sign me TF up for a Female GTA protagonist now that you mention it.

I just don't get this. All of James Bond's characteristics define him as "a man". Either you turn him into a woman but keep the characteristics, but then what's the point, you've just cast a woman but she's playing a man.

Or you change the character, but why then call her 'Jane' Bond? Why then keep the name of that franchise?

The Doctor turning into a woman makes sense; there's little, if anything, inherently masculine about the Doctor. Aside from that, the regenerations constantly turn him into a new person, with a different personality and a different being than the one who came before. Ghostbusters was always more about a group of guys rather than one guy; altering that to a group of girls isn't that far-fetched.

Like, if there's any spy movie you wanna genderswap, go for Mission: Impossible. Tom is getting too old for that shit anyway!

Bond isn't a womanizer in every iteration anyways. You have the Lazenby marriage, you have one true love Eva Green, you have quitting for love. There are several examples of how "That ain't Bond" ain't true.
