but that is interesting. this game may be trying to reject van dine's rules - after all, someone who believes servants are just menial, lesser human beings, goes against umineko's themes, which tell us that all people are valuable.

I do find it quite interesting, especially since Van Dine's actual name was...Willard Huntington Wright.

I wonder, did people try to solve the epitaph for real by using a real world Atlas? I imagine it was designed to be possible?

Someone I know did solve it, and they know very little Japanese, so somewhat?

anyway, the game was hinting at this earlier, and it seems to be where we're going: because shannon finds the gold here, she has the power to turn anyone into an accomplice by paying them, which can be used to explain a ton of things and give anyone a motive to be accomplice, really

So "Shannon" solves the epitaph... and gets brought to Kinzo? And Genji and Kumasawa both know of it?

But then how would she go back to just being an ordinary servant?

I guess Kinzo's final scene is sort of sad, even if what he did is horrible

so kinzo truly did get to see beatrice one last time before dying... like he always wanted. very omoshiroi.

people die when they have nothing left to live for. makes sense. and relates to the theme umineko has given us which is that you're online truly alive when you're striving for something.

its funny because during episode 5, it was easy to speculate and be like "well, kanon is around 18, could he be the abandoned baby" and it's not far off from the truth

geez. i understand why shannon wanted to wait around when she was too timid to leave earlier, but she's been given 10 tons of gold, she can do anything she wants! but she still wants to stay. JUST to wait for battler...?!

now there's a bunch of nonsense from "clair" about having a duel, and 1986 being bad, and endless infinite possibilities, and abandoning herself to the roulette and the epitaph and etc

can we please start being a bit more expicit? i get the gist of it but the specifics still don't make sense. why mass murder?

i don't get this game sometimes

it finally gives a "climactic" moment for the first time all episode, as will duels with clair (hardly a duel, but still)

and then when it finally ends with her saying "who am i?", which is the perfect opportunity to definitively show it once and for all

it instead just says "and so her body faded away and was gone"

like, why not just SHOW it?

you've already told the viewer the answer, haven't you?

bern says a bunch more nonsensical things about the meaning of the game and the cat boxes and the fragments and the episodes and etc

i don't really get it

then she concludes that all the answers have been given (NO THEY HAVEN'T) and she leaves and says we can continue to theorize

tbh, this feels like it could be the final chapter if it wasn't for the fact that it didn't explain the logistics of any of the chapters.

but it did say from the start it was going to explain the who and the why, but not the how.

guess that's all that's left. but the who and why are much more important anyway, so episode 8 may feel a bit like an epilogue...

So Lion gets to return to her life, remembering all this? that's a nice happy ending...

i don't quite know what to make of that last bit.

it's like, if you're gonna reveal the answers, then reveal the answer. >_> confirm it instead of just strongly alluding to it. and explain to me exactly what it is - was shannon imaginary at the start? was yasu real and shannon fake, then yasu became shannnon? or it was always shannon? what did they look like? how did she invent kanon? did jessica not realize the boy she loved was a woman? why didn't we see the 2 years where shannon began to date george, and we weren't told why she did?

and most importantly, can we clarify exactly why being mad at battler over that promise made her want to murder 18 people? i get the gist of it, heartbreak, yeah, it sucks, but... like....?????

but i have a feeling maybe the game never will clarify some of this...

in episode 3, we always wondered how eva, as the only survivor, would even find her way to kuwadorian. in this board, she actually does figure it out... because beatrice tells them all. maybe the ange future is from this gameboard, and everyone dies because eva blows them all up?

i thought the people in the jail cell were...um... krauss and kyrie only? and rudolf had died? it was krauss and kyrie with nanjo and shannon/kanon i thought. i must be remembering something wrong...

rudolf's no kyrie but even then, i still have trouble picturing him as a coldblooded murderer who can take out his entire family (including children) lol

kyrie tells rudolf to always stay the same person...

i wonder if there's some sort of significance to this?

plus gohda has already been killed, but in episode 4 he was in the guesthouse with battler and kumasawa until near the end, right?
