my own posts from the end of that chapter:

so it seems battler presented a theory that they weren't dead yet in the morning, somehow they seemed dead since they got examined, and then they died later. but this was just a blue theory and apparently i had nothing else to say about it since the chapter just ended.

Erika never examined any of the so-called corpses in Episode 5 by the way. She ran around checking seals on rooms instead.

Battler's play in the Ep 5 ??? was to set himself up as the culprit, using "The revenge of the man from 19 years ago" as a motive. Since Erika's listening proved that he couldn't actually kill them himself once he entered the room, his claim was that when he screamed and claimed to discover corpses, nobody was actually dead. They were then all moved to a different location and subsequently killed.

To clarify, it was never confirmed that this was the actual, literal truth of the situation. However, Erika's detective work and the red truth provided by Bern/Lambda as a result of it does mean that the only alternative is Natsuhi Culprit, which was also disproven (Albeit not in a manner that the court gimmick was willing to accept, due to Knox's 2nd) by Red Truth in the episode itself

okay, so he only theorized in blue that they weren't really dead and got moved, and this isn't confirmed in game (though it sure is confirmed to me now!) and he said he was the culprit, though that doesn't explain when or how he killed them.

but it also doesn't explain why those people would pretend to be dead, and where they'd go after that.

i guess you can infer that the killer just kills them at any point after that since no one is looking for them anymore, but why fake their deaths...?

i mean, if episode 8 talks about it, maybe i'll find out.

that'd make sense then because if they weren't really dead, she must not have used her detective's authority to proclaim they were.

I like the poetic solutions in the VN and how there's still some things left for the reader to work out, but thanks to the manga anyone can now check their work.

Poetic, maybe, but still very unsatisfying. For a story for so long teases answers, to finally only sorta get them kind of is massively infuriating I think. There's a time and a place to be coy with answers, but I think doing it THEN was bad. It solidifies this feeling that story does not care about answers, and does not care about the mystery.

I also think having all the answers in the manga is a bit of a cop out. It's almost like, the writer himself didn't know of the answers yet and only later filled in the blanks.

please tell me we'll get an answer to how everyone in episode 4 "acknowledged kinzo's presence"...

ah.

so these are memories that clair aka <that long list of names> wanted to repress

kinzo wanting to steal the italian's gold (how does she even have that memory lol. where did she learn this. god, was any of THAT even real?!)

beatrice trying to tell kinzo she doesn't want to have sex with him (understandable to repress that)

yasu apparently saying "i've been forced to live in a body like this"

WHAT DO YOU MEAN "LIKE THIS"? you can be a big-breasted maid girl, a slender pretty boy servant, but also can wear beatrice's dress and apparently gain lion's blonde hair and look like beatrice reborn?

i don't geeeeet itttttt

like, am i still missing something here in regards to the yasu/shannon/kanon dynamic...?

what "body like this"? incapable of love? what even...?

like has there been some hidden person in a wheelchair that's just conveniently offscreen every scene, and THAT'S who yasu and beatrice are?

i don't even get it

i dunno.

still not very invested in this chapter.

like i said, this game really needs a climax. the pacing sucks. episode 7 gave "answers" but it slowed down so much, and now we're entering the final chapter and... well, i'm waiting for something interesting to happen

oh boy, we're really diving into the theme of what "truth" is

battler says that kinzo was actually always a funny happy eccentric old man who wasn't scary at all, and ange only remembers him that way because she was 5 and got the wrong impression

is he lying? or not?

we have no way of knowing, since we have no way of knowing if anything in the game was true or not, really.

anyway, "6-year-old ange" suddenly can speak like "much older ange", because this is all very meta and magical and this isn't really the 6 year old ange at all. but it is ange's spirit, in some way or another.

So Battler is telling Ange that everything she thought she knew about her family was wrong

It's all just impressions that she got from false memories and from things people in society said

And it created a "truth" that came to life only in her head

do you get it? it's just like how the beatrice on the island is a "truth" created by the superstitions people had about spiderwebs and mirrors and etc

ya it sure sounds like Umineko is going to be telling us that it doesn't think the truth is that important, LOL
