I agree and I hope Battler's own gameboard in episode 6 therefore had proper motives for everyone. Apparently the motive for Battler (and the first 5 other deaths) was that they were just playing a prank... But do you really have a motive for why Kanon sneaks out and saves Battler?!

apparently, mystery novels don't expect you to find the motive

since i haven't read mystery novels, i never really realized that. but i guess that's why will harps on it so much.

anyway, 13-year old battler continues to monologue about how the motive is important because its about the heart

yeah, i get it

at least this is umineko reassuring me its villain's motive will make sense, theoretically

and anyway, this flashback is showing how "yasu" has a motive either way - it's something related to love, and shannon, and etc.

shannon clearly existed for a really long time without kanon though

so idk what's up there anymore.

could it really be that the mystery of only 16 people has another answer...?

and how does it all play into the red truths that kept saying things like "no one is going by a fake name"

apparently battler and shannon was way more serious than we were led to believe though!

but yet in the present day, they didn't seem particularly attached. granted, yes, shannon was with george now, but it wasn't ever majorly referenced...?

the fact is, yasu didn't become a golden butterfly and fly out the window and live in the golden land.

so where are they?

ok, so the battler shannon thing was apparently very serious. yes, it was brought up in the past as "shannon sort of liked battler a bit"

apparently battler promised to shannon that he'd come get her on a white horse next year

and then... he didn't come back for 6 years, did he?

that'd certainly be a "sin", battler doing something wrong, and shannon would hope battler remembers it and apologizes, like beatrice asks at the end of ep4

but could that really mean shannon is beatrice?

anyway, correction, shannon loved battler at the time, not george.

if anything, it looks like yasu should be kanon. since yasu-beatrice is jealous of the love. and doesn't have any love of her own.

well, sure, yes, I can imagine that each gameboard had different accomplices, since this was hard for one person to solve on their own

I know I didn't rule Hideyoshi out but I'll have a hard time imagining big uncle hideyoshi actually seeing himself as the beautiful golden witch lol

this is just a reminder that, even if i have a rough idea of what's going on, i still have no clue, really.

like he was brought in specifically to solve things, but then he just becomes yet another character who knows everything but refuses to say it

so, what, beatrice is george? and the reason he murders everyone when battler returns is because battler happens to return on the day that he was planning to propose to shannon once and for all? and he was worried that with battler's return, shannon would say no?

i mean.

it's not the worst theory...

and so, will and beatrice just dance around the answers, because, of course.

beatrice says that if battler hadn't come back, she would have continued to suffer, but she wouldn't have committed mass murder.

i mean, with what we just saw, it sounds like it must be related to battler's promise to shannon, so the only options are shannon and george who would care about that

but meh

maybe it really isn't this kanon/shannon thing that i've been thinking it was

and episode 7 is a slow backstory episode which still won't confirm any answer, and then episode 8 will be a grand trial that does reveal the truth in a climactic moment...

it truly is a mystery... why battler coming back would prompt mass murder.

surely it can't all be just because he promised shannon he'd come for her and didn't. neither shannon or george have a motive to kill the entire family and all the servants just because of a love triangle from when they were 13 years old LOL

but what tf else could 13 year old battler even do? he's a clueless idiot.

the only other ones with a motive to murder because of battler would be, well, the only other two characters strongly linked to him - rudolf or kyrie. but, meh.

hideyoshi should probably be ruled out lol

I guess the key thing here is to remember that Battler is not the son of Asumu

i guess figuring out who battler's mother is is the key.

and that takes us way out from the territory of "oh its just kanon or shannon"

because they have no major reason to care about battler's mother or the inheritance, right?

it's because it's suddenly delved into all sorts of magic shit and now i have no clue what happened to yasu. he didn't just become a new white beatrice and live in a rose garden. so.

apparently shannon had prepared the paperwork to quit her job and is going to just keep not handing it in for 6 years huh

i dunno. it still feels weird.

bern and lion speak to beatrice as if she is shannon, saying "you waited 6 years" "he promised you"

so uh????

I think the big change Ryukishi made between episodes that everyone would point to is that episode 3 was made a lot easier because a ton of people instantly surrendered to magic in episode 2.

The other big thing (though this isn't really fan reactions) is that Ryukishi's best friend/sounding board died before he was really deep into writing Ep 6 (after 5 was finished, but before it wad released. The influence this had is debatable though.

That's sad.

anyway, there's no real hope of me being able to focus on anything else today so let's try and finish episode 7...

like, no offense, but even a battler who is ghosting you is better than george

there's no way shannon's love for george is real at this point... she must just force herself into it to forget, and/or it's a different person pretending to be shannon and/or something idk

which makes perfect sense, because as i said from the start, george is unloveable

and i can't wait to see the look on his face when he realizes that the only girl who he thought actually liked him after is "maturing" was just faking it and using him as a rebound

(and is a psycho murderer who pretends she is a witch)

still though. shannon murders the entire family because battler comes back and forgets they were dating when they were 13?

i mean, i understand being hurt, but that's a little extreme.

still waiting for the part where shannon dresses up as a boy and pretends to be a new servant LOL

i have to admit i feel bad for shannon, this sort of heartbreak must be really awful
