the thing is, even if the answer really is that Lion is Kanon and Shannon and the culprit, how does that make any sense?

What relationship would that person have with Battler? Why would they have a thousand-year eternal romance? What would be Battler's sin?

so there's more to this either way

or it's all just a red herring...

Is Umineko the same game that threw a totally shocking twist at me at the end of episode 3? Or is it this weird new game where chapter 7 feels like I'm playing a totally different game than whatever episodes 1 to 6 were..., as it just rushes to give me answers via flashback monologues...?

not that episode 3's twist makes much sense anyway in retrospect - like i kept saying during episodes 4 and 5, beatrice apparently isn't evil after all. the twist in episode 3 was "haha, you thought beatrice might be a good person who has feelings and cares about battler?! it was all fake, she's evil!" and then it turns out that beatrice isn't evil and actually is in love with battler

and obviously, fukuin-lion was about to make up a witch here to explain why he/she keeps misplacing things. it was all the work of a witch playing pranks, you see.

anyway, all of the servants (or rather, well, just kumasawa and nanjo, is what i mean, since gohda must be out of it) must be aware of the lion/kanon/shannon thing... if that's the case? so that explains why kumasawa was the only one to see kanon go down to the boiler room in ep 1...? and nanjo helped move the body...? and uh... something something

but again, this game has a constant contradiction of like

magical beings explaining why magic doesn't exist

like, battler, since ep1teaparty, has been trying to prove witches doesn't exist

but that meta-battler is himself a magical thing, so he'd be proving his own non-existance

it's what i was just saying about how will, a magical being, is aware that all the magical beings being described to him must be lies.

so, like, sure, this flashback has an imaginary gaap in it.

but, how are we watching this flashback? because we are following will and/or the magicla theatre place

so is all magic stuff taking place inside someone's head? is the entire game a story created by lion...?

i have a feeling this may be a thing that ultimately never makes any sense, even when the curtain closes on chapter 8. but we'll see.

notice the misdirection: over in the meta-theatre, the stake sister servants interact with shannon. but in the flashbacks, they never respond to her.

i've seen them, yes, but i didn't notice that the names match up in that way

i like will (and i like lion) its just weird to have him be the one solving the entire game

hell, since battler learned everything off-screen and beatrice is "dead", will there even be any sort of final climax with those two...?

anyway, i suppose it's no surprise that the backstory of the criminal had to involve a period of their life where they were really into mystery novels, lol

anyway, since we're talking about it: i gather the idea here is that the "seven stakes" that yasu comes up with years later are based on the shitty older girls from fukuin that bullied him

if a random selection of kids from fukuin were chosen to come over to rokkenjima, why were there 7 identical looking girls? lol. were they sisters for real...?

of course, the inner monologue says that all the other servants rotated out and yasu is the only one who stays

but look, shannon isn't leaving!

plot twist:

shannon's not an imaginary friend.

she rotates out as well too - she says he's quitting.

so yasu kills her and pretends to be her.

LOL.

if you were slow enough to not get it, yasu's inner monologue literally talks about how he's now the eldest servant and the only one left, as shannon says "great, let's keep working together ^_^"

for the first set (satan, lucifer, whoever else), they hadn't said their names so besides Sanon, I had only heard the name Lunon once many episodes ago when a random servant was named or something

this is where it'd become clear to me that the stakes don't just look like the servants, they're named based on them

the second set of servants actually interact with shannon.

is the game as straightforward as it seems, and the killer is yasu aka lion aka 19-year-old-baby aka granddaughter of beatrice? who is a genderless person that is both kanon and shannon?

or is that all a red herring and the game is about to massively trick me with something else?

until i proceed through the episode, i won't know which it is...

in other words, the more complicated a trick is, the more likely it can be attributed to magic

like, i wanted answers, but i didn't want you to just explicitly read them out to me.

well not when you put it that way!

but yes, it is pretty straightforward if so, since the game has been spelling it out as clearly as possible for the past 6 hours of playtime.

but i'm holding out hope.

i'm hoping someone comes on screen and laughs at me and says "Hahahaha! Did you really think that this flashback was just the story of the culprit?! Did you really think it was as easy as saying "the servant did it"!? Did you really think we'd introduce the 19-year old baby so late in the story, and then just immediately reveal them as the killer?!"

(and yes, it's against knox's rules to bring in the baby and make them the killer, but not if that baby is one (or two) of the original 18 characters. in that case, it'd be fair, i assume)

That's an interesting perspective. Don't you think sitting through a 100+ story is enough of a lead in to get actual answers?
