Ive been using Dive Man/ROB 64 for a starting Steel Diver and increased ranged weapon strength/ammo (which seems to work pretty well). I assume there are probably better setups, though.

I've not played much of the mode at all, but I'm using Seliph (Sword Attacks up) and Hector (Death Scythe start), and Marth is basically the only fighter I'm using.

Death Scythe is just too fun <_<

Yeah I can't wait to have Seliph on Cloud once I get him unlocked. :)

And yes, I fully recognize the anti-synergy between Seliph and starting with an item <_<

I mostly used Sheik until I unlocked Snake, and then pretty much exclusively him. I might try using ZSS a bit now that Ive finally unlocked her, though.

I've been sticking with Deep Breathing (Down Special Up), Wolfen (Shield Damage Up), and Kapp'n (Easier Dodging) on Kirby

Don't know how good or bad it is but I enjoy it at least

I'm having trouble with Zelda and Yuri. For whatever reason I can ever seem to hit Zelda consistently. I have gotten to the point where Yuri doesn't bother me much anymore but Zelda is just slippery as fuck.

I really cant believe how much there is to WoL.

Recent smash games have set the bar so low on single player content. So many great nods to other games/characters(The SMRPG party fight was great, the whole SF area, etc).

And there is somehow still more to it.

WoL is really, really good. I'd be stunned if I walk away from this thinking Ultimate has anything less than the best single player Smash experience.

Somewhat related, does anyone know if the spirits you put into the ruins at all affect the time it takes or the loot you get?

Well the bar was so low for Single Player after 4 and ESPECIALLY Brawl that this feels like a breath of (the wild) fresh air.

I thought it WoL was going to be a short experience, a sort of replace for the old challenges. But every time I think I know the size of the world it just gets bigger.

And I hear classic mode is a treat too and I have yet to touch it.

Worst things about WoL:

1) Floor Hazards because the enemy is always immune to them and it's just silly
2) "Hostile Assist Trophies"

I assume you have not played in a match with "Dangerously High Winds" or "Rotating Screen" yet because those are way worse than either of those.

I have played a couple Rotating Screen and they were obnoxious

I think the only High Winds one I've come across was the Lati@s spirit, which yeah was pretty bad. But I've yet to run across an Assist Trophy one in particular that wasn't completely and utterly stupid

there are supports for these. Have only needed to stop dangerously high winds once.

I am fine with rotated controls. Poisonous pipeline trained me early enough in life I can deal with that crap for a little bit.

Kill the assist trophy. Even with Assist Killer equipped, it still took me a few times to kill it and survive long enough to even beat the other two enemies after that.

The Boss was easier once I got an assist trophy with Poison Immunity (which took 2 slots rather than the three anti-poison things you'd need to nullify it otherwise). Then it's just a game of trying to catch Samus and then beat her with enough health that her Final Smash doesn't kill you. I legit beat her with 2 seconds left, and the time before that we had a time out where she ended up with 0.4% more health than me and I lost.

Problem was I hadn't gotten ANY Assist Trophy Killer upgrades yet at that point lmao, I still powered through and did it though

For every fun fight there's like three that are just "seventeen thousand things on screen YAY" tedium

That you basically need to counterplay them with supports to have a chance makes them the worst though. Ideally I'd like to be able to win these matches without having to just hard shut down the gimmick.

I don't feel like theres ever all that much on screen. None so far have really been item chaos or anything.

Most of the larger battles are more about threat assessment and realizing which character you need to take down first.

Well, it also heavily depends on the stage. I'm sure there are some stages with wind/rotating I can beat without shutting them off but yeah.

Not good gimmicks in any case.

SSE's story (or rather, its string of fanservice cutscenes) was fun. I don't know about the gameplay but I'd take it over every game but Ultimate's single player.

Also, and this Tiny Kong strong winds was one of the tougher ones yet just because the winds were stronger than any before, you have to remember that strong winds will not push you off the ledge, even thought it feels like they should. you will stop at the end. So you can play pretty defensive and come through with a victory.

In the skill tree there are nodes for resisting wind, poison, and lava floors. Just unlocking those might be enough to get through those stages without having to use up your support slots if you're good enough.

And if you don't want the other bonuses you collect on the way to those nodes, I think you can forget them.

TBH Melee's single player is terribly underrated. Unlocking everything in that game was so much fun.

Also I put a Groudon in the gym, enhanced it when it got to 99, put Primal Groudon back in the gym, and now at level 99 my power level with supports equipped is over 11k. Come at me you 13,700 assholes.
