There's also the fact that quickplay-only means I have to grind out a bunch of matches with randos, and frankly I really just don't enjoy those nearly as much as anything else in the game.

Like, if I could do it with you guys or something I'd be complaining a lot less in spite of being charged for it.

Let's not pretend this is a huge problem. Just about every other game with online modes has achievements linked to playing online and not once have I ever seen someone complaining about having to pay for those. (Referring to PS and Xbox obviously)

Nintendo's Online service is a pretty reasonable price. $1.67/month isn't bad at all. Especially since it comes with an expanding library of NES games. My daughters are playing the original Legend of Zelda on there.

Also A+ for Nintendo Customer Support. Forgot to cancel my trial so I could get my online sub for the year and got charged the monthly price(Which is a considerable amount more). They refunded and returned the credit so I could do the yearly sub.

Yeah I made sure to cancel the auto subscription immediately after starting the trial. Also it said it's expiring tomorrow, which is 9 days after I started it instead of 7.

Got my second 9.9 with Little Mac. For some reason these punchy characters are the best for me.

Aww yeah, finally unlocked Robin. Going into the Alucard battle with him immediately after did not result in an instant win surprisingly.

Dracula's Castle is a pretty neat dungeon, and surprisingly long. I figured it'd be the standard number of battles with one or two character unlocks, but no it just goes on and has a whole bunch of characters.

I just completed it myself. It was really nice actually. Had puzzles and stuff which was neat.

btw the biggest thing that pisses me off about K. Rool is how many of his abilities just eat fully charged aura sphere, without the aid of stomach armor. Like, you'd think him sitting in the middle of the stage charging down smash(Why,I still don't know) I could just fire off my aura sphere and it'd be guaranteed hit. But look, he released the button. Nope. He clashed it. Didn't even hit stomach. Just straight up clashed with it.

Yes, I finished it a while ago. I kept screwing it up by pressing A to get back from a ledge hang.

Yeah, I ruined my first attempt with the same thing because even pressing B at that point triggers a ledge attack, so I had to consciously make sure I wasn't pressing any button when getting up, and using Side Bs to land on the ground on my feet.

Still, just hearing Ken yell out all those moves in succession is hilarious.

I landed a new job right around when this game came out but finished unlocking everyone last night! Aaaand it doesn't matter because K. Rool is King tier baby, God King tier.

So glad they fixed the quickplay online too in this last patch. God this game's online is surprisingly about perfect -- they just need to add goddamn win-loss and KO/death statistics. But I'm so happy I can finally do 3 stock matches online. 3 stock omega form or 3 stock any stage no items is always good times.

And again the King. The King is just...everything I ever wanted him to be and more.

That is about all. I can pretty much already tell this game's going down as my favorite multiplayer game of all time. Unsurprising, since Smash 4 had that title prior.

Finally got 9.9 Classic with a bit of trickery.

Used Ganondorf, and he can pretty much Smash attack through his first four fights really easily. The hard part is getting through the Pit & Palutena and Link & Zelda duos, but if you wreck all the fights, you can go into the fight with the Hands already at 9.9 and use Tickets if you die during the fight.

Ganon's new sword is both absurdly damaging and has huge hitboxes, so it's really easy to hit both hands with Up Smashes a good amount of times.

I once again want to state how dumb it is that I have to repick my character and prefered color EVERY match. Whyyy can't any smash game get interface right (except smash 3ds)

Its actually super cruel that the one smash game with good interface is the one thats almost impossible to play with friends

I traded in some sleep to power through World of Light over the past few days; just finished some hours ago. That was way funner than the Subspace Emissary; I especially got a nostalgia-kick out of their handling of Castlevania, Street Fighter, Donkey Kong Country, and Zelda. Excellent fanservice all around.

Regarding Spirit battles, I did have trouble with Wily and The Boss, but I never got too frustrated since you could retry immediately with no penalty. Giga Mac seemed like it would be the death of me until I thought to cheese it by standing at the very edge of the stage and baiting a throw. I also cheesed Pauline by running after Peach until her AI killed her off for me.

Spirit Board fights are way more intense since you need to waste valuable resources for rematches, and even if you win, more resources need to be spent for a better shot at getting the damn Spirit. Because of that, I feel Liquid Snake, who I just failed against like five times before giving up, was my toughest fight yet. I couldn't justify spending any more Retries.

Also, did anyone else brute force their way through many fights with the Metal Face Spirit? Strategy be damned with that thing.

The more spirits you have, the better arsenal you have to wreck spritis. I don't remember Metal Face, but I'm sure he was metal, so I had Viridi which has Metal Killer, and it wrecks Metal Spirits.

Assuming that "Enhanced" Spirits are only available via the actual leveling up (meaning you can't randomly find them on the Spirit Board), then Metal Face can only be obtained by taking another Spirit to 99. It only has one slot, but it makes up for that with 12k+ base attack at Level 99 and an incredible built-in effect which allows you start a fight both Metal AND Giant. You can wreck most fights when you're that OP for the first few seconds.

Agreed. Definitely my biggest problems with SSBU are small little quality of life things like that. The most noticeable one to me is that hazardless stages need to be a selectable option along with Battlefield and Omega forms on the stage select screen. Like...I don't usually know if I want to go hazardless until after stage selection (especially when we take turns picking stages when playing with people). My brother picked Magicant once because he thought it looked cool and had never played it, and a quick hazardless toggle would have been so useful there.

I haven't had issues like that since so far, I've only done single player in WoL and the Spirit Board. I'd have to say my main gripe is that loading times are a little worse than I expected.
