So I'm trying to get back into this, and I never really got too into it the first time, so I've got a few basic questions:

When is a good time to do stuff like merge/promote/etc.? Like, if I have a 4* and merge some same 4*s into it, does it keep those boosts if I promote, or is it better to get stuff to 5* first?

It does not keep merge bonuses if you promote. So if you have five 4* marth, and you really want to get that marth to 5*, you want to promote all five marth to 5* and then merge them.

Yeah but if you want to build characters you have to know their IV's first. For example if you have a fast attacker but has -Speed IV not worth doing it.

Got a Loki with +Def/-HP off the banner. I kinda wanna keep one but this is a good bad combo to sacrifice to Serra or Matthew for the stupid ass duel skill I guess

mine was +spd -def so i gotta keep that.

oh i forgot to say earlier but i got a free dupe Flying Nino on her banner. +atk -HP to replace my +HP -def. gonna make her quite a bit more frail but oh well.

5 orbs to get Summer Tana. unfortunately -atk, which i've been getting a lot of lately. but hey, at least i finally got her. i feel kinda foolish having spent so much on her earlier, both since i got her so easily now and because she's pretty much just worse than Aversa as is, especially if i use the extra merges.

also this infernal definitely feels powercreeped. i came across an archer that Corrin was one atk short of one-rounding, so i switched from spd+3 to atk+3 seal. which then lead to a red mage i couldn't double, even at +2 with darting blow. so i had to switch Azura from drive atk to spr atk seal. which then lead to an enemy Myrrh was 2 damage off from killing while 2 spaces away from her <_< (granted, i was still able to win that time).

actually i guess i might have been able to use brazen atk seal with drive spd on Azura. though really, if they've given us a brazen atk seal i think they can afford to let us have atk/spd+2.

78 orbs got me legendary Eirika (-Def +res) and Ephraim (+hp - res) on the last session. Ephraim was a very nice bonus I wasn't expecting. A bit tempted to try for Tana as well

Infernal was pretty challenging for me to get right too. I didn't have to switch around too many seals. Myrrh, Summer Corrin, NY Azura and NY Camilla did it for me. I had to swap Camilla's attack seal with a speed seal to double one of the mages. I usually use renewal and quick riposte seal with Myrrh, but she needed Iotes shield to deal with the archer.

The only thing worse than summoning a set with none of the color you want is summoning a set with only the color you want and for it to go up dead.

What I'm saying is it could be worse

I only did the opening circle's colorless + red. Wasted 8 orbs on nothing and that'll be it for me.

Went back in for Tana, and came out with +Spd -Res Eirika. I'm satisfied with the banner now. Still don't have the desperation fodder for either of them

Eirika seems so awkward to build. needs to get hit to even trigger a moonbow in one combat if you keep her B skill, but her def isn't great and her res is even worse for when she's up against dragons or CC mages. she can't really use a brave sword to avoid counters because then she loses the special charge and doesn't have enough atk for heavy blade (and it'd only be every other combat even if she could use it). if you replace the B skill with desperation she loses all uniqueness and becomes identical to Siegbert.

I'm not sure how best to build her either. I think a Siegbert type build looks the best. She has the advantage of not being married to the Heavy Blade seal - similar to Brave Roy.

Her B skill is nice, but it is basically trading a B slot for Black Luna. Her bulk is decent enough to take one hit but that's it. She would benefit a lot from a desperation seal. It feels too awkward to make use of that skill

The only Eirika this game wants me to get is the mage one, so I'm just saving her as SS fodder. We desperately need a Desperation seal.

Speaking of awkward builds, Kliff's gimmick feels too gimmicky. Nerfing his own Atk so he can boost it when he's up against a stronger foe, but still not that strong with the boost. That animation is sick af, though

Refines incoming for Batre, Florina, Saber, and Shanna.

I have enough Florinas to +10 so this could be the time to raise her up. Hoping her lance is really great.

(Also Bartre's refine is "Axe of Virtility")

Beat Infernal Eirika. Kinda weird map. I needed to abuse that certain units spawn only upon killing other units. Matthew and Serra hard walled the one panel that leads into the start area while VIRION and Kagero picked off many units before they could build up too much. Then I abused stupid AI on the horses that spawn when you kill the so only the troubadour did anything for a while as I cleaned up Eirika and her goons.

Probably couldn't do it again without a few tries. The horse AI abuse was complex.

Thinking this was not a particularly well designed map. I don't think the stupid stuff I was doing to abuse AI should be a good strategy.

I might get a chance to dust off my +Atk -Res Saber if he gets a decent weapon. It should be his first banner since his introduction over a year ago.

I'm not really excited for the others, but it is nice to see three of the original units getting a refinement.

There are never enough Shanna's to go around, so even if she does get a nice weapon, she would still be kept around as fodder. Wish they'd release 4 sets each time so more characters get buffs

I don't really think keying reinforcements to specific enemies being KOed makes for good design generally. Maaaybe if they were clearly flagged as such so we don't have to do trial-and-error to figure it out, but even then I don't really like the idea of rewarding the player for NOT killing certain units.

Other FE games tend to time reinforcements to one of (a) turn count, (b) crossing a certain line in the battlefield, or (c) provoking a certain group of enemies. I prefer all of those generally.

I kinda like the idea of rewarding the player for not killing units in that you can choke an area with enemy bodies. But if said choking depends on the enemy AI being stupid with its attacks (ie this one) it loops back around to bad. And obviously "don't kill this guy to stop these arbitrarily chosen adds from showing" is never going to be good

But yeah that map was pretty much a collection of things you shouldn't do on a Fire Emblem map

ugh it looks like Olwen might win after a round completely devoid of bonuses for Ishtar. Ishtar is still on pace to win by a very slight margin but if Olwen averages just a bit more flags in the next three hours than the past one, she'll win.

wait they're showing the next banner already? wasn't expecting that with a feh channel tomorrow. i wouldn't mind getting some of those units but like the Maribelle banner i'd probably rather wait for either a 3-unit or legendary banner. i spent every orb on the current legendary anyway (got a second Tana from basically the last pull i could make).

It's definitely close for me. I'm wondering if 1 character that is at least new, even if I never had any interest in seeing her, is enough to vaguely counteract three alts for characters I would happily never see alts again for, with only 1/3 being one I even sorta like. Vaguely enough to make it not the worst and the second or third worst, I mean. Like I feel like one of the random alt spam banners could've possibly been worse? But they probably didn't have 3 terrible alts like this one.

I think for me the big thing that puts this above the others is that I hate the overall design theme here a lot more. Like in theory I might be interested in Mikoto but definitely not that one. And even if I liked Corrins and Camilla the same would go for them.

I can't believe this banner. The audacity to say "sorry, it takes soooo long to plan and design an FE6 banner" and then announce this a few days later. At least I can keep saving my orbs.
