15 y/o Hayden Schreyer from Florida was killed in a HORRIFIC boating accident after his dad hit the THROTTLE on the boat and sent Hayden flying off the boat and went face first into the BOAT PROPELLERS instantly killing him!!.

He happened while on an outing on the Kemp Channel as his 48 y/o father, Jason and 6 others were on board the 25ft Dorado when Jason lost his balance and fell and hit the throttle. The suddenly acceleration sent Hayden flying into the water and he went head first to the propellers as his father broke his LEG from the fall!!

Hayden was pulled from the water and died from blunt force trauma to his head and body...Now friends and family are raising money to help pay for the funeral

They have raised half of the 20,000 so far on Gofundme as the family are heartbroken over the tragic loss.

Aybre Morris said "We're asking family and friends to come toegther to support his family financialy during this tragic time"

He was known as "blueberry" at school because he often wore blue to fish. He was fond of nature and animals and one of his teachers said he was a hard working nice kid who was funny to be around.

Have you ever been on a small boat before?

Hayden - Deceased

Funerals are insanely expensive.

Basic services of a funeral director: $2000
Embalming: $800
Dressing & preparing the body: $300
Transfer of remains to funeral home: $325
Facilities & staff for viewing: $500
Facilities & staff for funeral service: $550
Hearse: $300
Limousine for family: $300
Caskets: $1500-20,000

And then there's the cemetery fees:

Grave space: $1000-4000
Burial services: $1000
Administration fees: $200
Temporary grave marker: $20
Headstone: $500-10,000

And then you still have flowers, memorial cards, honorariums.

When my grandfather died nearly 15 years ago, his funeral cost over $10,000 and that was with free grave site, burial services and headstone (he was a retired Marine) and free memorial service and minister (he was a Sunday school teacher at his church).

When my spouse died I chose a simple direct cremation with no services, casket, viewing, embalming or anything extra, they just picked up the body, transported it to the crematorium and returned the ashes in a cardboard box, and that cost nearly $4000!

The father seemingly fell, and right into the throttle, unfortunately. It wasnt a reckless act by the driver, just a worst case scenario of awful luck:

Not really. Boat propellers aren't really made for cutting through flesh. And you're more apt to bounce off of it, rather than go through it. At least a small boat anyway.

At those RPMs, a piece of string will mess you up badly. Just look at a string trimmer you'd use for edging your lawn.

I think it's odd that the family's first move was to start a GoFundMe rather than you know, sell the boat but that's just me I guess.

Water is a very different medium to grass, boat propellers are much slower (and shorter).

And because they're much shorter the RPMs do have to be fairly high. I had a reading teacher in middle school that lost a leg to a boat prop while water skiing. I grew up on Long Island sound. I've spent plenty of time on boats, and a boat prop WILL mess you up. This kid's death isn't evidence enough? It's not like a boat's screw is made of Nerf foam and it's still moving at high speed relative to the water and squishy flesh. Plenty of manatees and seals can also attest to this.

That's irrelevant. I didn't say it has less power than a strimmer, I said it's slower and shorter.

boat propellers are short because shorter is stronger (necessary for a resistant medium) and they can have a high AoA to catch more water (trading rotor speed for volume displaced). A round, weak nylon string has no angle of attack and does not require a solid form, high RPM is necessary to transfer enough force through a string.

It is still an act of carelessness by the father. I am not saying it wasn't an accident, but it was avoidable.

If someone died on my boat in such a fashion, I would certainly be the one to blame.

Also, every boat I have owned (three) have had throttle locks. If the throttle is in neutral, I had to press a button/lever to enable the forward gear. The boat must have already been in gear (or had no throttle lock). Both are dangerous, especially if the motor is running. I don't know if such throttle locks are required by law, however.

And because they're much shorter the RPMs do have to be fairly high. I had a reading teacher in middle school that lost a leg to a boat prop while water skiing.

My current boat has a Volvo Penta Duoprop. Two counter-rotating props. I shudder at what would happen to anything made of flesh that got caught in them while at speed. They can push a 6,000 lb boat at 35mph. Fortunately the only things I have hit with them is water and underwater logs :(.
