I have a quick question about HxH (2011) if anyone knows the answer. It isn't super important but it is bugging me. I've finished up to episode 100 but I think this specific thing happened in the early 90s.

So Killua had a needle in his brain that told him to run from strong foes, and it activated during the fight with the rabbit ant... but then once he took the needle out he wrecked the rabbit in one move? Why did the needle activate against a foe that Killua was blatantly stronger than? Maybe it was set to activate for anyone beyond a certain Nen threshold even if Killua had surpassed it, but that seems dumb too since then it wouldn't activate against anyone below that threshold even if they were stronger than Killua. It doesn't really matter but if they're going to go with a physical Nen needle instead of purely psychological fear, the needle needs to make sense!

This incredibly minor nitpick aside, I'm still enjoying the arc. Biscuit coming back was the best and Palm has been great too.

It was a psychological thing. If Killua had ANY doubt against his foe, It'd kick in and make him run. Even if he 99.9% sure he could win, that .1 would make him run. He had to be sure without any doubts that he could win. When he broke the conditioning, he was able to go all in and stomp, ignoring any doubt he had.

I assume it activated based on his own fear or something. Kind of a synergistic effect, where his fear and the needle magnify each other to the point that he can't stand it anymore. So anyone that's even a little scary suddenly becomes terrifying, even if it's someone he could beat. That's the best I've got anyway.

Oh that actually makes a lot of sense given what he said about wanting guaranteed odds before fighting. Once I saw the needle I was like 'oh it wasn't psychological at all, it was the needle' but in truth it was more of a mix and I just over-thought it.

The latest Chio wasnt super funny like the last one, but it was decent I guess. Cells At Work ep7 was pretty good and next episode is more Red Blood Cell waifu.

I wonder how long it will take for all of DB Super to be dubbed so I can marathon it. Its gotta be getting close to being done by now. Not that Im in too big of a rush to see my favorites get dumped on, but maybe one day somebody on the anime staff will make pushes for the true heroes to shine again >_>

I've finished all fifteen episodes of Bakemonogatari. There's still a bunch more to see, obviously, but based on this first season it looks like pyresword was right in guessing that I wouldn't hate it but that I would like it less than most other people here. Everything about it was definitely interesting and I'm excited to continue (I'll probably watch the Kizu movies this weekend, even) but a whole bunch of things didn't quite resonate with me. Slight spoilers will follow but nothing so blatant that I feel like tagging anything (with one exception).

For one thing, while the animation style was unique with all the cuts to text frames and weird angles and the like, for the most part I would've preferred something more standard. That said, there were times when the style worked and at those times it really worked, so I'm looking forward to seeing if the later seasons keep the same style and maybe smooth out the edges into something more consistently great. Another thing is that I'm generally not a huge fan of the harem genre, and while Bakemonogatari handled it better than a lot of other things I've seen, it still ran into the problem of, like... why are all these girls falling for this dude. One or two I could understand but not every single one. He proudly gropes little girls, half vampire or not, Araragi isn't exactly a catch. I mean he's fine as the character who has interesting things happen around him but he's still my least favorite character so far.

I guess I should talk about Senjougahara too. I can appreciate the occasional tsundere (Noire from the Neptunia games is a good example) but Senjougahara was too tsundere for me. Her mean side was so overpowering that, as a result, the sweet side always felt forced. One example was during their date when Araragi said multiple times that he didn't like all the mean things she said and did, but then when the switch flipped and she was being nice he was like 'lol I love everything about you'. No you don't, you don't like the mean side and you said as much multiple times. I didn't dislike her or anything but Senjougahara is my least favorite girl so far (Hanekawa is also still the best, followed by Hachikuji).

Hanekawa might be my favorite also? Either her or Senjougahara. Though to be fair after just season 1 it was Senjougahara by a landslide for me. Hanekawa wasn't especially high up on my list yet, but she has some really strong scenes/arcs later on the series imo.

Also in other news that was a really dumb episode of My Hero Academia imo. Not a huge shock considering we knew it was going to be filler, but whatever

Closed room mystery stories don't exactly work well in a world where like 90% of the population has superpowers, including some already established ones (off the top of my head invisibility, teleportation, whatever the hell Edgeshot's power is) which break the closed room hypothesis without much trouble.

And also it wasn't a very good story anyways even if we set aside these weird logical inconsistencies with the MHA world.
